Chapter 35
On the way back from Rongxi Hall, Shen Rang's complexion seemed fine, but the atmosphere around him was frighteningly tense.
Jing Yuan followed behind him, carrying the brocade box, not daring to even breathe loudly.
As soon as the two returned to Liuyun Garden, Yunwan greeted them: "Husband, you're back."
Shen Rang hummed in agreement: "My mother told me to bring the jade ruyi back to you."
Yun Wan's face stiffened, and she cautiously observed Shen Rang's expression before saying, "Husband, I had no choice but to go to Mother..."
“No need to say anything more,” Shen Rang said. “Since Mother has spoken, I will come back in the future.”
After saying that, Shen Rang stepped into the courtyard.
Yun Wan watched his retreating figure, a resolute glint in her eyes.
Regardless, it's good that Chen Rang is willing to stay.
Yunwan gave Pearl a wink, and Pearl hurriedly went to the back room, telling Jixiang to bring out the medicine-making equipment so they could start brewing it that evening.
However, when evening came, Shen Rang showed no interest in that regard. After dinner, he said he wanted to go for a walk, and they walked until late at night.
As the moon rose high in the sky and Shen Rang still hadn't returned, Yun Wan couldn't sit still any longer. She strode into the bedroom, saw Yun Xi leaning against the bed, half asleep and unaware of her presence, and slapped her across the face.
"Speak! Is it because you didn't serve the young master well enough, making him uncomfortable, that he's not coming back?!"
Otherwise, why would Shen Rang be so resistant?
A flash of coldness crossed Yunxi's eyes, which quickly disappeared before she put on a wronged expression: "I tried my best."
Recalling the commotion the two of them had caused in the past, Yun Wan regained some of her composure.
So where is the problem?
Unable to understand for a moment, Yun Wan felt annoyed whenever she saw Yun Xi, so she waved her hand and told her to leave.
Jixiang was waiting in the back room. When she saw that Yunxi had returned with her face covered, she was taken aback. After Yunxi finished telling her what had happened, Jixiang felt a pang of pity.
“The young mistress is probably dissatisfied, but she doesn’t dare to confront the young master, so she can only vent her anger on the young lady,” Jixiang said in a low voice. “But it’s no wonder. I heard that the old lady ordered the bed in Buweizhai to be removed. Logically speaking, the young master should have nowhere to go, but even so, he still doesn’t want to share a bed with the young mistress. No wonder the young mistress is angry.”
After hearing what Jixiang said, Yunxi finally understood.
Shen Rang had nowhere to rest outside, preferring to take a walk in the courtyard rather than come back. No wonder Yun Wan was inexplicably so angry tonight.
Yunxi's eyes darted around, and tears suddenly welled up in them: "But this isn't my fault! I clearly tried my best..."
Jixiang felt a pang of sadness: "People like us..."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Jixiang realized something was wrong.
Yunxi is not the same person as her; she is Madam Yun's daughter.
Thinking of this, Ji Xiang's expression became even more complicated.
Yunxi is clearly the rightful master, but now...
Yunxi seemed oblivious to everything. She sniffed and said, "Jixiang, I'd like to go for a walk outside by myself, is that alright?"
"yes."
Yunxi went out the door, took a few steps and turned around. After making sure that Jixiang hadn't followed her out, she continued walking forward while sobbing softly.
The bed in Buweizhai has been removed, and Shen Rang will definitely come back. He's probably taking a walk in the courtyard now, and if she's lucky, she might bump into him.
I can't let this slap go unpunished.
Tonight, the moon is bright and the stars are few. The night breeze has lost the heat of the day and instead feels cool and refreshing, which is very comfortable.
It felt so good that Yunxi almost couldn't cry.
She took a deep breath, readjusted herself, and suddenly heard a familiar set of footsteps. Yunxi quickly pretended to hide.
She had barely made a move when a voice rang out behind her: "What are you hiding for?"
Yunxi covered her face, turned around, and curtsied to him: "...This servant has disturbed Your Highness."
Shen Rang's gaze fell on her hands: "What's wrong?"
Yunxi sniffed and shook her head, saying, "It's nothing."
Shen Rang stepped towards her and said, "Let me see."
His posture was firm, so Yunxi took the opportunity to lower her hand, revealing her slightly swollen cheek.
Under the moonlight, the woman's skin was as white as jade, making the redness and swelling even more noticeable.
