Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Before Shen could even think carefully about where he had seen such eyes before, the person closed the window.

Yunxi closed the window completely subconsciously, and immediately felt annoyed after realizing it.

My hands were faster than my brain just now.

She's now trying to make her identity public, and hopefully Shen Rang will recognize her!

Yunxi slapped her hand, which she had just used to close the window, in frustration.

However, upon closer reflection, now is not actually a good time to reveal one's identity.

Although if Shen Rang knew that she was the one on his wedding night, he would definitely elevate her to the status of a concubine, Yun Wan was the matriarch of the Shen family, and crushing a concubine was no more difficult than crushing an ant.

Therefore, revealing your thoughts too early will only hasten your demise.

There's no need to rush...

Yunxi sighed, lowered her eyes, and looked at the wooden rabbit, a warm feeling rising in her eyes.

Meanwhile, Shen Rang pondered for a long time, but still couldn't recall when he had seen those eyes before.

A woman's soft voice came from behind: "My lord, let's rest early."

Shen Rang hummed in agreement, then reached out and closed the window.

He loosened his outer garment, and the two of them lay down to sleep.

The woman's fragrance enveloped him everywhere, reminding him of what had happened the night before.

A slight heat surged within him, and Chen Rang's Adam's apple bobbed slightly.

Since they are already married, then... doing this shouldn't be considered reckless, right?

So Shen Rang coughed lightly and said, "Madam said she was injured last night. How is she recovering today?"

Yun Wan was immersed in the sweetness of sleeping in the same bed with her husband when she heard his words. Her body stiffened, and her relaxed state instantly tightened again: "Husband, I..."

Seeing her stammering, Shen Rang assumed that she was still injured and embarrassed to say so, so he considerately said, "Never mind, Madam, please rest well."

He appeared carefree, but inwardly he couldn't help but sigh.

It is often said that women are delicate and gentle, and this is certainly true.

He should be gentler with her in the future.

Hearing him say that, Yun Wan breathed a sigh of relief.

That was close...

Fortunately, Shen Rang did not seem to have any reason to do so.

However, Yun Wan did not dare to relax until Chen Rang's breathing beside her gradually became long and even, indicating that he had fallen asleep. Only then did she feel relieved and close her eyes, falling into a deep sleep as well.

Yunwan hadn't slept well last night, so she slept very soundly this time, not waking up until the sun was high in the sky.

She called Pearl in to serve her, but Yun Wan's brows remained furrowed.

Pearl cautiously inquired, "Young Madam, did something happen last night?"

Yun Wan sighed and said, "Last night, the young master suddenly had this idea, which terrified me..."

If Shen Rang insists on it... she doesn't know how to resolve it.

Pearl pursed her lips and said, "This can't go on like this. Fortunately, our madam has been looking for a doctor for the young mistress. We can ask her how she is doing when we go back to our parents' home the day after tomorrow."

Hearing Pearl say this, Yun Wan felt a little relieved.

After washing up, Yun Wan asked about Yun Xi's condition: "How is she? Didn't you give her anything to eat all day yesterday?"

Pearl nodded: "Young Madam, you are the mistress of this mansion. If you say you won't give her any, who would dare to give her any?"

Yun Wan smugly hummed, "I've heard that people in the countryside are tough and can survive a day or two without any problems. I'd like to see if that's true!"

Pearl pursed her lips and said softly, "Young Madam, our mistress called that person over to do things for you. If she gets sick from starvation, it will delay important matters..."

After Pearl said that, Yun Wan realized what was going on.

Starving Yunxi for two meals is fine as a way to give her a hard time, but starving her for too long is really not good.

But Yunwan felt very uncomfortable.

This is the first time that she has ever disliked someone, even though that person is someone who can't even be seen in the light of day. Not only can she not do whatever she wants with her, but she also has to be careful and not mistreat her!

Yun Wan took a deep breath and said, "That's true."

Now, she just hopes that Yunxi can give birth to the child soon, so that she can deal with her however she wants.

Thanks to Pearl, Yunxi was finally able to eat her fill that day, but she still couldn't go out and could only stay in that small room.

Looking at Jixiang doing needlework in the room, Yunxi pondered for a moment and said, "Jixiang, tomorrow is your homecoming. When you arrive in front of Madam, do you know how to answer her?"

Jixiang quickly replied, "Don't worry, Miss, I understand."

Yunxi nodded and then fell silent, her thoughts drifting back to this day in her past life, pondering what she should do.

Although the time spent doing nothing is hard to endure, it will eventually come to an end.

Finally, as darkness fell and the lights in the main house were turned off, Yunxi quietly went out and began to walk around in the courtyard.

In the bedroom, Yun Wan had already fallen into a deep sleep, but Chen Rang was still wide awake.

In the silence, a very soft sound of a door opening could be heard outside.

For some reason, Shen Rang suddenly remembered those clear, bright eyes.

The woman's soft breathing beside him pulled Shen Rang back to reality. Shen Rang closed his eyes and silently cursed himself.

He has just married a wife, yet he already has his eyes on other women; this is hardly the behavior of a gentleman.

Thinking about returning to Yunwan's family home tomorrow, Shen Rang took a deep breath and forced himself to ignore the soft footsteps outside.

However, the more he tried to ignore it, the clearer the footsteps became in his ears, and he could even imagine the scene of the woman strolling under the moon.

Fortunately, the person went back after circling the yard twice. With a creak, the yard returned to peace, and Shen Rang was finally able to fall asleep peacefully.

Even though Shen Rang went to bed late, he still got up before dawn the next day. Seeing that Yun Wan was sleeping soundly, he went to the courtyard to practice his swordplay.

He has been skilled in both literature and martial arts since childhood, and even though he now focuses on literature, he has never neglected his martial arts skills.

Swords flashed in the courtyard, and the man's figure was agile and dashing.

Yunwan got up shortly after and called Pearl over to help her get dressed: "Have you prepared all the gifts for your return visit?"

As Pearl combed her hair, she nodded and said, "The young master gave the order himself. I've seen it, and it's very proper."

"That's good." Yun Wan breathed a sigh of relief.

Pearl was quick and efficient, and soon she had styled her hair and put on a hairpin. Just as she was about to apply rouge, Yunwan said, "Go to my wardrobe and get a dress and take it to my dear sister."

Pearl asked in bewilderment, "Young Madam, she's just a country girl, why are you so fond of her?"

Yun Wan sneered: "After all, she is my mother's biological daughter. If I treat her too harshly, what if it displeases my mother?"

“Young Madam, you’re overthinking it. Our Madam doesn’t treat her like her own daughter at all,” Pearl said dismissively.

If Madam Yun truly valued Yun Xi, how could she possibly bear to let her bear Yun Wan's child?

“Prevention is better than cure,” Yunwan said. “I remember there was a pink one, a rather bright color, so I sent that one to her to match her style.”

Pearl knew which item Yun Wan was referring to after a moment's thought.

It was a bright red skirt embroidered with pomegranate flowers.

Yun Wan fell in love with the dress at first sight, but she didn't expect the color to be so unflattering. She simply couldn't pull it off, so the dress ended up being relegated to the bottom of her drawer.

As for pomegranate flowers, although they symbolize many children and good fortune, such a meaning is not considered auspicious when applied to Yunxi.

"Yes, this servant will go right away!" Pearl said with a smile.

Yun Wan's lips curled into a smile, a hint of pleasure flashing in her eyes.

She casually tossed Yunxi anything she didn't like—things that Yunxi had never seen before in her life!

At this moment, Yunxi might not be so grateful to her!
