Chapter 7
Jixiang's expression changed, and he quickly took out the silver note and obediently handed it to Yunxi.
Yunxi glanced at it but didn't reach out to take it: "I told you long ago, you can take whatever benefits you want from outside, just remember who your master is."
Jixiang quickly replied, "Yes, this servant has always remembered."
Yunxi nodded.
She finally got to come out, so she had to go for a walk.
Jixiang was asked to lead the way, and the old women didn't make things difficult for her. The two of them went out without any hindrance and strolled around the street.
Meanwhile, the master and servant went out onto the street, while Shen Rang and Yun Wan arrived at the Yun family's gate with generous gifts.
Yun Changliang and his wife were waiting outside and warmly welcomed the two of them into the house.
After entering the gate, Yun Changliang and Shen Rang sat in the front hall chatting, while Madam Yun and Yun Wan went to the inner room.
As soon as she sat down, seeing Yun Wan's unhappy expression, Madam Yun was slightly taken aback: "What's wrong? Is the young master treating you badly?"
Yun Wan shook her head: "It's not the Crown Prince, it's Yun Xi!"
Once she started speaking, Yun Wan couldn't stop: "Mother, you have no idea how... My mother-in-law even warned me to restrain myself so as not to jeopardize my husband's future. I really... I'm so ashamed!"
Upon hearing this, Madam Yun was slightly surprised: "Is that so?"
“That’s right,” Yun Wan said indignantly. “And the Crown Prince too. Although I know he doesn’t know the truth, seeing him defend me in his words still makes me feel... very uncomfortable. I always feel that the person he is actually protecting is Yun Xi.”
Madam Yun didn't know what to say, so she could only offer a few words of comfort, saying, "However, I think Yunxi really has no other intentions. You can use her with peace of mind. Even if you have any unhappiness in your heart, you should know that Yunxi is there to help you consolidate your position in the Marquis's mansion. In the end, you will benefit."
Yun Wan pursed her lips: "Yes, Mother, I understand."
Madam Yun nodded with satisfaction and said, "I know you don't like Yun Xi, but since you still need her for now, take good care of her and let her give birth to your child as soon as possible, so you can get rid of this thorn in your side sooner."
Yun Wan understood what Madam Yun meant, but she still spoke somewhat reluctantly: "Mother, don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
Seeing this, Madam Yun reassured her: "Don't worry, although there's still no news from the doctor, your father and I have been searching for him. I think it should be soon."
Hearing this, Yun Wan's expression softened: "Father and Mother have planned so much for me, I really have no way to repay you."
Madam Yun looked at her reproachfully: "Silly child, I am your mother. Are you trying to distance yourself from me by saying such things to me?"
Yun Wan's displeasure vanished completely, and she began to act coquettishly, clinging to Madam Yun's arm.
The Yun family was bustling all day. Yun Xi and Ji Xiang took a good stroll outside, buying a lot of skin care creams and comfortable underwear before returning to the Marquis's residence early.
Upon entering the side gate of the Marquis's residence, the familiar old woman greeted us once again.
The old woman, her face expressionless, led the master and servant back to Liuyun Garden and left.
Watching the old woman's retreating figure, Jixiang couldn't help but mutter, "That person is so strange..."
Since that old woman knew Jixiang, she must have been arranged to be here by Madam Yun, but she didn't talk to her on weekdays and seemed very aloof.
The door closed, and Yunxi gave her some loose silver: "She's in charge of the back gate. If you're free, go have drinks with her more often. Once you get to know her, it'll be easier for us to come and go in the future."
Jixiang quickly accepted the silver.
She had just received forty taels of silver from Madam Yun, and now she didn't care about these loose change at all. Seeing that it was almost time to eat, she said, "Miss, I'll go and bring you your dinner first, and then I'll go find her for a drink."
“No need,” Yunxi said. “You just go ahead and don’t worry about me.”
After her return visit to her parents' home in her previous life, she ate exactly the same meals as Yun Wan every day, and this life should be no exception.
The only difference is that in her past life she truly dared not resist, but in this life... she's just pretending.
Jixiang was happy to save herself some trouble, so she curtsied and turned to leave.
Just as she expected, a delicious meal was served to her shortly afterward.
Pearl delivered it herself.
Facing Yunxi, Pearl's face was as sour as ever, and her eyes were as disdainful as ever: "The young mistress is kind-hearted, so she allows you to eat the same meals as the young mistress. Also, pack up in a bit and come over tonight."
After saying that, Pearl turned and left, as if someone would die if she stayed there any longer.
Yunxi didn't take her attitude to heart at all, and happily started eating. Afterwards, she went to the bathhouse to take a shower and then waited quietly for night to fall.
Soon, the small door to the side room opened.
As they entered the side room, Yunxi stopped, enduring Yun Wan's murderous gaze.
"Sister, you must be careful. This is the Marquis's residence, not some wild and uncivilized place like the countryside. You should be more cautious in your actions."
Yunxi pursed her lips: "Yes, young mistress."
Seeing that she addressed her as "Young Madam" like a servant, instead of "Sister," Yun Wan felt a surge of nobility.
Yun Wan originally wanted to say a few more words of advice, but seeing how sensible she was, she refrained from doing so and said, "Alright, you can go now."
Shen Rang is taking a bath; he might come back at any time.
Yunxi nodded and turned to go to the main house.
Watching the door being carefully closed, Yun Wan curled her lips: "Starving her for a few days really worked. I'll have to find a way to keep her on her toes from time to time."
Pearl rolled her eyes: "Young Madam, you just need to do your job well and not leave any handles for others to use against you. As for the other side... isn't there Jixiang? Let Jixiang have a good meal every now and then. I think Jixiang will be very happy to do so."
A glint of light flashed in Yun Wan's eyes: "Hmm, you really have a good idea. Tomorrow, give the order that Jixiang can have a good meal whenever he wants, without having to worry about anything else."
Pearl chuckled softly and said yes.
Everything in the bedroom had been arranged.
Just like on their wedding night, all the candles except the one by the door had been extinguished.
When Shen Rang pushed the door open and came in, he was momentarily dazed, thinking that he had returned to his wedding night.
He walked towards the bed and saw the woman sitting timidly on the edge of it.
In the deep darkness of the night, she looked quite different from how she appeared during the day. Even though her face was obscured, her mere presence exuded a captivating charm, making Chen Rang's heart flutter.
"Madam, why aren't the lamps lit?" Shen Rang's voice was slightly hoarse.
Yunxi didn't speak, but lowered her head and twirled her fingers a few times.
Now, there was nothing Shen Rang didn't understand.
She was shy.
Hearing Shen Rang's low laughter, Yun Xi seemed to be annoyed. She got up, put her arm around his neck, and led him to the bed.
"Madam is indeed impatient." Shen Rang's tone was somewhat helpless, but also somewhat indulgent.
He said Yunxi was impatient, but in reality, it was he who couldn't wait to start undressing.
Yunxi saw through it but didn't say anything, only secretly cursing the scoundrel in her heart.
Soon, the wind and clouds rose, the flowers trembled, and the room was in a mess.
