Chapter 18: Being Dejected and Getting into Trouble
Mingzhao nodded and said, "Let's go. You take the horse that Tianyu brought. We will set off immediately."
After returning to the mansion, Ming Zhou and Rang Xuanyuan went to call the mansion doctor.
Qiao Ruoying rushed over after hearing the news. She bent down to look at her niece, who was sitting in a chair in a somewhat embarrassed state. She wanted to touch her forehead with her fingers but didn't dare. She said distressedly, "Oh, how did this happen? Who has the guts to lay hands on girls?"
Her dear Li'er has never been hurt since she came to the mansion!
"She was hit by a fish." The incident was too funny. If it wasn't his cousin who was injured, Ming Zhouhe would have wanted to laugh. But since it was his cousin who was hit by the fish, Ming Zhouhe couldn't laugh.
"They went spearing fish in the river, and my second sister lost her grip. The spear was unstable, broke free, and smacked my cousin." Ming Zhouhe explained, "The fish at the farm are very fat. That fish was bigger than my cousin's face, and she must have been stunned."
On the way back in the carriage, the second sister kept saying that the fish was bigger than her cousin's small face.
"Be careful next time." Qiao Ruoying couldn't blame Mingyuelin. The two girls were playing around, and scolding too much would hurt their feelings and would not be good for Li'er.
"I understand, Second Aunt."
"Aren't you going to school? Why are you spearing fish?" Qiao Ruoying remembered and asked again.
Shi Jianli said, "The teacher checked whether our hands were skilled or not. We thought it was okay, so we skipped school. Aunt, we will wait patiently until after school in the future."
Qiao Ruoying patted her shoulder.
She and her sister had skipped school many times before, and it was okay to skip school once or twice occasionally, but she was the elder and could not encourage or support the child to skip school.
Doctor Chu was brought here from the former residence by Xuanyuan. After a thorough inspection, he said, "Some brain vibrations can cause occasional dizziness and nausea. I'll prescribe a few decoctions. You should get better after a good rest."
This was the first time that Doctor Chu had seen a girl with a concussion caused by a fish. He couldn't help laughing, but when he saw the pitiful look of the little girl, he held back his laughter.
"The redness on your forehead looks serious, but Miss Li's skin is actually delicate, so it's not that serious. Apply some blood-dissolving ointment, and it will disappear in two days."
Qiao Ruoying breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay, thank you, Doctor Chu. Chuntao, take Doctor Chu out."
She looked at Shi Jianli again and patted her back. "Do you feel dizzy now? Go change your clothes and get some sleep."
"Some." Shi Jianli stood up.
Ming Yuelin did it herself, and when she saw her movements, she supported her arm and said, "Sister Li, let me help you."
"good."
Qiao Ruoying had asked the maid to go to the kitchen to bring some soup. When she entered, she saw her niece had changed her clothes and was sitting by the bed.
"You haven't had lunch yet, have you? It's already 3 p.m., and I'm afraid you're all starving. You don't seem to have much of an appetite. Have a bowl of soup to fill your stomach, and when you wake up, I'll ask the kitchen to make you dinner. It's okay to eat late."
"Let them boil the medicine after you get up, and drink it after dinner." She picked up the bowl of fish maw and lotus seed soup, held the spoon and fed it to Li's lips.
Then he looked at Mingyuelin, "Lin'er, you haven't eaten yet, right? There's still one bowl. Don't starve yourself. It's better to have something in your stomach."
"Aunt, I can eat by myself." Shi Jianli took the bowl in her hand embarrassedly.
"Thank you, Second Aunt." Mingyuelin sat on the chair beside the bed.
The two girls drank the soup, and Shi Jianli cleaned her mouth and lay down on the bed.
Mingyuelin saw that she was asleep and left quietly.
Qiao Ruoying sat beside Shi Jianli's bed, looking at the red spot on her forehead, her eyes full of heartache.
The maid brought the medicine prescribed by the doctor of the Chu Mansion. Qiao Ruoying personally put some on her fingertips and gently rubbed it on the slightly swollen red skin.
"Aunt..." Shi Jianli opened her eyes and looked at her with admiration in her eyes.
"Go to sleep, your aunt will apply medicine for you."
"Okay." She closed her eyes again.
Ming Yuelin returned to the East Mansion with her head down. Yuan Yuhe, who had been walking around the garden twice in joy because her sister-in-law was coming, saw her and waved at her, "Lin'er, you're back so soon?"
In the past, when they went to the farm, they would not be able to return until dark.
Mingyuelin saw her mother and walked over to her, "Mom, I'm in trouble."
"What trouble have you gotten into? You look so depressed." Yuan Yuhe pulled her over and looked at her, and saw a few spots of mud on the corners of her clothes.
"I dragged Sister Li to skip school to go fishing, and she got hit on the head by a fish. Her forehead was a big red patch, and the court doctor said it was a concussion."
Yuan Yuhe patted her head and said angrily, "You're so naughty. Go back and change your clothes. I'll go take a look."
"Have you had lunch?" I'm afraid he didn't have time to eat.
Ming Yuelin pulled her sleeve and said, "Second Aunt gave me a bowl of soup. Sister Li has gone to bed. Please don't disturb her for now."
"Then I'll go tomorrow." Yuan Yuhe pulled her to her yard. "Is this concussion serious?"
"The court doctor said he would be fine after a few days of rest."
"What kind of fish could hit a person in the head so badly?"
"I don't know what the fish in the Tianzhuang River eat to grow so big, they're shiny black and very strong. When that big black fish flew towards Sister Li's face, it completely covered her face. I didn't even react." Ming Yuelin sighed, "I was talking about catching a few to bring back home, but after this incident, I'm in no mood at all."
"Sister Li likes to eat fish. I wonder if she will stop liking fish from now on."
"But she was afraid that I would feel uncomfortable and that she would be the one who felt uncomfortable, so she advised me not to take it to heart."
"You, now all you talk about is your sister Li." Yuan Yuhe glanced at her.
Ming Yuelin raised her chin. "I'm playing with Sister Li. If I don't keep talking about Sister Li, who else could it be? Third sister is a little bit stubborn. I don't like playing with her. Fourth sister is quiet. She loves needlework and stays in her room all day embroidering. I can watch her once or twice, but I can't sit still for too long."
"My other sisters are still young, but Sister Li can play archery, horseback riding, and cuju with me. She can also design clothes for me. She even plays truant with me. Don't I just love playing with her?"
She held Yuan Yuhe's hand and said, "The princess liked her at the flower viewing banquet last time."
Then he sighed, "In another year, Sister Li will probably be married, and I'll only be able to play with my third and fourth sisters."
"If you like her so much, why don't you persuade your second aunt to let her marry into the family? Your fourth and sixth brothers are about the same age as her, so your second aunt can take care of her more easily."
Ming Yuelin leaned on her shoulder and asked softly, "Do you really like Big Sister and Fifth Brother?"
Yuan Yuhe was silent.
Who could truly love the children her husband had with another woman? She was generous enough to treat them fairly and not torture them.
"Second Aunt is the same as you. Not to mention her and Second Uncle's friendship, the Second Branch has more children than we do. Second Aunt truly loves Sister Li. How could she let her marry someone she has a grudge against?"
Yuan Yuhe held her hand and changed the subject: "Then your second aunt is busy now. She is busy looking for a marriage for your third brother and a suitable husband for your sister Li."
After entering the yard, Ming Yuelin's voice returned to normal, "Mother, my aunt is here this time too. Are you trying to match my second brother and cousin?"
