Granny Shen sighed and said, "Young lady, it's come to this point. We should find a way to go home. There's no need to get into unnecessary arguments. It's pointless."
Xu Gao thought about the life she had lived over the past few years and her face turned red with anger. She was the eldest daughter of a marquis's family, and just because she cared about her reputation, she had been worn down to this state by her mother-in-law.
The group returned to Lady Qingping's courtyard. Lady Qingping saw Xu Gao had come along and said, "Xu, weren't you feeling unwell? Why did you come along?"
Before Xu Gao could speak, Granny Shen said with a smile, "Madam, our old lady hasn't slept well for two nights because our eldest daughter hasn't returned home for several days since receiving the letter. Before coming here, she instructed me to take our eldest daughter back with me."
Upon hearing this, Lady Qingping gave a forced smile and said, "Granny, the way you're saying this makes it sound like I don't want my daughter-in-law to come home. Madam Xu hasn't been back for a long time either. I'll help prepare some nice gifts, and in a couple of days I'll personally send a carriage to deliver them back to your residence. What do you think?"
Granny Shen smiled and said, "The two children of our Third Master's family like their eldest sister the most. I'm just afraid that the children won't be able to stand it. Before their eldest sister goes back in a couple of days, they'll come over and bother us tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Lady Qingping smiled and said, "We are all close relatives. It's very kind of the children to come and see their older sister."
Granny Shen smiled and bowed, saying, "In that case, this old servant will take her leave now."
After Xu Gao escorted the person to the second gate, before he had even returned to his own courtyard, an old woman serving in the Qingping Earl's courtyard came over and said, "Young Mistress, the Madam has a headache and wants you to come and serve her."
Upon hearing this, Xu Gao, supported by her personal maid, collapsed to the ground with her legs giving way. When her maids saw this, they all cried and wailed, some calling her "Young Mistress" and others "Young Miss," leaving the old woman dumbfounded.
Xu Gao's personal maid, now Qinglan, scolded the old woman, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and go tell the madam to ask for a token to fetch a doctor! Can't you see that the young mistress has fainted? If someone dies, can you afford to pay for it?"
The old woman stumbled backward after being scolded by Qinglan. She wanted to scold back, but when she saw Xu Gao lying on the ground with his eyes closed and his head being held by a maid, she cursed him in her heart and hurried to the courtyard of the Lady of Qingping.
