Chapter 2 Rescue

Refined families would keep some medicinal herbs on their estates. One reason was that if the owner came to the estate to relax and encountered any unexpected situations, they would have emergency measures in place. Another reason was that if any of the workers on the estate had a headache or fever, they could have some medicine on hand to help them in an emergency.

Looking at the not-so-large medicine cabinet, Chen Zhaoci found himself recalling the effects and methods of using each medicinal herb.

Saving lives is of utmost urgency, and Chen Zhaoci didn't have time to think things through. Seeing some Andrographis paniculata, she grabbed a large handful and said to Old Man Shen, "Old Man Shen, take this and boil it into a decoction. Boil a lot of it. Also, prepare a pair of scissors, some embroidery needles, and embroidery thread for me. If you have any high-proof liquor, please prepare some for me. Put the scissors, embroidery needles, and embroidery thread in a clean pot and boil them. I'll need them later."

Old Man Shen agreed and quickly arranged for people to make preparations.

It's easy to get infected in a sterile environment. If you get infected, you'll have a high fever. As long as you can get through the high fever, the problem shouldn't be too big. That's the situation. These are the conditions. Now, Chen Zhaoci can only do what he can if the conditions are right, and if the conditions aren't right, he has to create them himself.

On the table in the room was a large bag of wound medicine, a white powder. Chen Zhaoci rubbed some between his fingers, put it under his nose and sniffed it gently. The ingredients and method of making this wound medicine suddenly appeared in his mind.

The preparations were completed quickly. Chen Zhaoci washed her hands several times, then washed them again with a decoction of Andrographis paniculata. After cutting off the bandages and clothing around the wound with scissors, she disinfected the wound with the Andrographis paniculata decoction and began to sew it up with embroidery needles and thread.

Old Shen and a few others were lighting lamps on the side, watching Chen Zhaoci calmly treat the deep, bone-revealing wound, and they greatly admired Chen Zhaoci.

After stitching up the wound, Chen Zhaoci applied ointment to it, wrapped it with gauze, and then took the patient's hand to check his pulse.

After discovering the things that were appearing in her mind, Chen Zhaoci felt that they must belong to the original owner of this body, so she wanted to try to see what would happen if she took her pulse.

The throbbing pulse beneath the index, middle, and ring fingers of his right hand told Chen Zhaoci that apart from this wound, there were no other major problems.

Chen Zhaoci said to Mr. Shen, "Mr. Shen, you must take good care of him tonight. If he gets a fever, you must bring it down as soon as possible."

Mr. Shen agreed, and Chen Zhaoci went to check on the others. One had his arm cut, which just needed to be re-treated and bandaged. The other two had a broken arm and a broken leg, but fortunately, they were not open fractures, but closed fractures. With simple treatment, they would recover well.

After finishing her work, Chen Zhaoci breathed a sigh of relief. Being busy like this had finally brought back her old feeling.

Seeing that it was getting late, Chen Zhaoci said to Old Man Shen, "I've treated all the external injuries, but we still need to ask a doctor to prescribe some oral medication."

Mr. Shen said, "I've already sent someone to town to invite them. They should be back soon."

Chen Zhaoci nodded and went back to his room.

Xu Rao and Xu Di were sitting idly in the room waiting. When they saw Chen Zhaoci return, the two of them quickly got off the kang (a heated brick bed) and looked at Chen Zhaoci with nervous expressions.

Chen Zhaoci smiled and said, "I heard that the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei was injured. I treated his wound. I think the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei's wound is not very good. It's just that he met me. If he had met another doctor, I think he would have had a hard time."

Xu Di said, "You still need to take good care of the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei. The original heir of the Marquis of Jingbei died a long time ago. Who knows if this is the last time?"

Chen Zhaoci said, "We two people who should have been gone long ago are still alive and kicking, aren't we? What you're talking about is all in the past. Isn't there this butterfly effect? Maybe it's because of me that he's okay. Alright, alright, I've been busy all night, I need to get some rest."

Chen Zhaoci took off his shoes and got onto the kang (a heated brick bed), lay down on the headboard, closed his eyes, and fell asleep.

A dim oil lamp was lit on the kang table in the room. Xu Rao said, "Let's go to sleep quickly. We don't know what will happen tomorrow. Let's rest first."

In the early hours of the morning, someone knocked on the door again. Xu Rao quickly got up, and Chen Zhaoci sat up as well. The two looked at each other in surprise, and Xu Rao said, "I was dreaming."

Chen Zhaoci said, "I had a dream too."

There was a loud banging on the door. Xu Rao got off the kang (a heated brick bed) to open it and said, "Let's talk this out properly later."

The visitor was Uncle Shen. Seeing Xu Rao open the door, he said, "Third Master Xu, our young master has caught fire. Please, Third Madam, go and take a look quickly."

Chen Zhaoci was already dressed and walked briskly into the front yard.

Under such conditions, it was inevitable that he would develop a fever after suturing such a large wound. Chen Zhaoci had already prepared himself mentally. Moreover, a prescription for reducing fever had just appeared in his mind. Chen Zhaoci found paper and pen, quickly wrote down the prescription, and went to the small medicine cabinet to get the medicine.

Fortunately, they were all common medicines. Chen Zhaoci got the medicine and asked Uncle Shen to brew it. She went into the room and applied an ice pack to the forehead while wiping the body with strong liquor. After Uncle Shen finished brewing the medicine, he quickly fed it to her and repeated the physical cooling process.

Chen Zhaoci was busy until dawn. She checked her temperature and found it had dropped. She finally breathed a sigh of relief and fell asleep on the daybed by the window.

Xu Rao and Xu Di couldn't wait any longer in the room, so they came out and followed Uncle Shen to the front courtyard. They saw that Chen Zhaoci was asleep from exhaustion. Xu Rao wrung out a handkerchief to wipe the body of the Marquis of Jingbei's heir, found a stool, and sat by the bed to keep watch over Chen Zhaoci.

Chen Zhaoci woke up hungry. He got up and ate something. He looked at the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei lying on the bed. The fever had not returned, but the man was still unconscious. After checking on him, he went to the outer room to check on the three wounded patients who had been settled. Fortunately, none of them had a fever. He gave them some millet porridge and then returned to the heir of the Marquis of Jingbei.

Uncle Shen was old and pale, but he stayed by the side of the Marquis of Jingbei's heir.

Chen Zhaoci said, "Uncle Shen, please go and rest. Your young master is fine and will wake up soon."

Uncle Shen shook his head and said, "I'll wait a little longer."
