Xu Zhi never expected to find a business partner like this.
Back in her courtyard, Xu Zhi pulled on Granny Lu's arm and whispered happily, "Granny, you don't know, I actually met Sister Wan'er from the Feng family just now! Who would have thought that I would meet Sister Wan'er in this remote mountain place? Granny, after I told Sister Wan'er about my idea, she was very interested and wanted to do it with me. Granny, I'm so happy!"
Granny Lu actually understood her daughter; it was a happy thing to have one's ideas recognized. And it was even happier if someone did it with her.
Seeing Xu Zhi so happy was a rare sight, and Granny Lu felt both happy and a little bittersweet. The girl was only thirteen years old, already married, helping to take care of her sister-in-law, and even learning to do business.
Xu Zhi had a great time playing, and when she saw that Bai Zhu had already prepared the medicine, she took it and went to Feng Wan'er's courtyard.
It was really a happy thing to meet an old friend here, and even my mood, which had been a bit gloomy due to the continuous rain, became brighter.
Feng Wan'er felt much lighter and told Xu Zhi about her experiences on the road. Feng Wan'er had traveled by land, while Xu Zhi had traveled mostly by water before returning to land. Since they took different routes, they naturally saw different scenery.
Because Feng Wan'er was not feeling well, the two talked about dinner until very late, and then Xu Zhi returned to her own courtyard.
Because of the rain, night fell very quickly. Granny Lu assigned the people she brought to take turns on guard duty. This post station was in the middle of nowhere, with some mountains and forests nearby. If bad guys really came to do evil, they might actually succeed.
Since they knew each other, Feng Wan'er and Granny Lin's group naturally protected each other's safety. Feng Wan'er brought about ten guards, who were just ordinary servants and housekeepers, which were incomparable to the specially trained guards brought by Xu Zhi.
Xu Zhi lay in bed, listening to the patter of rain outside, but her mind was preoccupied with how to arrange her life after arriving in Yuezhou. She didn't fall asleep until the third watch of the night.
The rain finally stopped in the middle of the night. When Xu Zhi woke up in the morning, bright sunlight shone into the room through the window. She opened her eyes and saw the light coming in through the gap in the curtains. She happily said to Granny Lu, "Granny, the rain has stopped."
Granny Lu smiled and said, "It stopped in the middle of the night, and it's still a nice day."
Xu Zhi breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's finally stopped raining. It's been raining for five days. If it hadn't stopped, I felt like I would have grown hair all over my body."
Granny Lu said, "We live in the north, where the weather is always dry. But in the south, it's completely different. After a while, when the plum rain season comes, there won't be many sunny days for several months."
Upon hearing this, Xu Zhi exclaimed in surprise, "Granny, what kind of weather is this? In this kind of weather, won't we just turn into dried salted vegetables?"
Granny Lu smiled and said, "This kind of weather has its advantages. It's very mild and not dry, so people are less likely to get overheated."
Xu Zhi stuck out her tongue and said, "Grandma, I still prefer the weather in the north. It rains whenever it wants, and it stops as soon as it stops. Unlike here, it just keeps raining endlessly."
Granny Lu said, "You'll get used to it over time."
Xu Zhi got dressed and went to Feng Wan'er's courtyard with Bai Shu. Feng Wan'er had already woken up, but was still lying in bed. Her complexion was much better than yesterday, probably because the weather had cleared up and her mood had naturally improved.
Bai Zhu took her pulse and said, "Miss Shen is much better than yesterday. She still needs to take her medicine on time. I will change the prescription after she finishes those three doses."
Granny Lin happily agreed. She had already served her young lady the medicine and was now holding a bowl of hot water to help Feng Wan'er rinse her mouth.
After rinsing her mouth, Feng Wan'er drank half a cup of warm water before smiling and saying to Xu Zhi, "I slept very well last night. Your mother's medicine and this sister's prescription are really good."
Xu Zhi said, "As long as it works, that's fine. Sister Wan'er, the weather has cleared up, and we're getting ready to set off. What are your plans?"
Xu Zhi and his group were well-equipped and their guards were clearly highly skilled and not to be trifled with. Traveling with Xu Zhi and his group greatly increased their safety.
Lin Mama looked at Feng Wan'er and said with a smile, "Madam Zheng, it would be best if she could travel with you. However, please have this sister take another look at our young lady's health to see if there are any obstacles to her traveling with you."
Bai Shu smiled and said, "Granny Lin, it's alright. Miss Chen has been in the carriage the whole way. Just make sure the cushions in the carriage are thicker so she's more comfortable."
With Atractylodes macrocephala in hand, Granny Lin naturally made arrangements immediately. After breakfast, the group packed up and left the post station.
Because of the continuous rain, the road was not easy to travel on. Fortunately, many places were paved with bluestone slabs, so although the carriage was a bit bumpy, it was still able to continue south.
Because the sky cleared up, many travelers who had been stranded by the rain started to move again, making the road quite lively.
As Xu Zhi walked, she looked at the scenery along the roadside. Some pedestrians were tired and sat down to rest by the roadside. Around noon, she stopped to rest in a small town.
There was an inn in town. Qingbo went to the innkeeper to book a courtyard, settled everyone in, and then went to find Xu Zhi.
Uncle Qing said, "Young Madam, I've inquired and found that it's another 300 li from here to Yuezhou. There's a post station 50 li away from here. I'm thinking of sending someone on horseback to the post station to reserve a courtyard so we can rest when we arrive. What do you think, Young Madam?"
