Soon, those who had made their way into the yard either ran away, died, or were captured. After Zheng Boyuan led his men to clear out the front yard, he went to the back yard.
Ah Jin had already gone into the room and turned on the lights. When Xu Zhi saw Zheng Boyuan come in, she quickly stood up, took Zheng Boyuan's hand, and asked, "Are you hurt?"
Zheng Boyuan shook his head and said, "No, we were prepared. There's nothing serious. A few brothers were injured, but they've been bandaged up now. Don't worry."
It was already past midnight. Wu Muyue said, "Before it gets light, everyone should go and rest. Boyuan, tomorrow you go outside the city and see if the water has started to recede. If it hasn't, send more people to guard the city gates so that no one can take advantage of the situation and breach the gates to flood the city."
Zheng Boyuan agreed, and the group came out of Wu Muyue's room.
Standing at the gate of the courtyard, Xu Zhi said to Xu Bai and Chen Yuyuan, "You two should go back and rest well. I reckon that my brother will be here tomorrow or the day after. Let's hold on a little longer, and everything will be fine once he arrives."
Xu Bai was still thinking about the disappointment, sadness, and slight jealousy he had felt earlier. He nodded when he heard his sister's words, but didn't say anything. The last person he wanted to see right now was his older brother. Who knew what kind of unpredictable things his older brother would say to him that would upset him?
Xu Bai sighed and said wistfully to Chen Yuyuan standing beside him, "Having such an outstanding elder brother really makes it difficult for the mediocre brothers below. Alas, Yuyuan, can you understand the pain in my heart right now?"
Chen Yuyuan gently patted Xu Bai's shoulder and said, "Yuan, you've done very well. There might not be another cousin like him in the entire Daliang."
Xu Bai nodded and said, "That's true. My older brother is a monster. Sometimes you really can't treat him like a human. Never mind, what's wrong with me lately? I'm being so indecisive. Let's go back and improve those little things so that if anyone tries to find them again, we can use these two things to drive them back."
Chen Yuyuan put his arm around Xu Bai's shoulder and said with a smile, "Look, those little gadgets you made have been very useful this time. I heard from A Jin that they caught quite a few people in the front yard using the fishing net you made. And that crossbow, it may look inconspicuous, but it's very lethal."
Xu Bai finally felt somewhat comforted and said to Chen Yuyuan, "It was somewhat useful for me."
Chen Yuyuan quickly said, "Of course! You're so young, and you've already made such amazing things. What amazing things will you make when you grow up? I'm already looking forward to you growing up soon."
Xu Bai suddenly thought of a song. There were a few lines in that old song that many people liked to sing when they were about to graduate: "I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to grow up. The world is so scary when you grow up." As graduation approached, they had to find jobs on their own and prepare to be baptized by all kinds of storms in society. Many people have to go through such an adaptation period. After leaving the ivory tower of campus and entering society, they may face various blows that are hard to accept, but they have no choice but to take this step.
Entering society means facing not only various setbacks, but also a lot of pressure: the pressure of survival, the pressure of work, and even the pressure from relatives. You have to find ways to earn money to buy a house and a car, and after starting a family, you have to support your family and children. With the development of society, the cost of living and the pressure of raising the next generation and even supporting and caring for the previous generation are increasing day by day.
Xu Bai himself is not married, and because his parents left him enough money to last a lifetime, he doesn't have any pressure. However, his classmates and friends have complained to him that it is really, really difficult to survive well in society and to make a decent living for himself and his family.
But now, he spends his days studying with his great-uncle, doing his own little research projects. There's no concept of graduation, and he doesn't have to worry about not being able to adapt to society later. His family has prepared money for his children's weddings, and after they separate from the family, each family will prepare one or even several properties for them. Although these were all earned by his ancestors, Xu Bai feels that this involves the issue of one's reincarnation. Being able to enjoy such comforts means that he was born into a good family. After all, being born into a good family is truly a skill.
Xu Bai walked along, his mind a jumble of chaotic thoughts. He returned to his room, lay down, and only drifted off to sleep when the eastern sky began to lighten.
When Xu Bai woke up, it was already bright daylight. He rubbed his eyes and looked outside. It was still cloudy today, but the weather was much better than yesterday. The clouds in the sky were not as low as yesterday, which was good news.
Xu Bai quickly got dressed and got out of bed. He lived with Chen Yuyuan in the backyard, which was quiet at the moment. Chen Yuyuan's room was empty. Xu Bai went to Wu Muyue's yard and saw A Jin there. He went over and asked, "A Jin, where did A Yuan go?"
Seeing Xu Bai just woke up, A Jin smiled and said, "A Yuan and A Xi accompanied the master to the city gate. I heard that the water at the city gate has begun to recede, and A Yuan wants to go and see."
Upon hearing this, Xu Bai happily said, "Really? That's great news! I'll go check it out right now."
Ah Jin stopped Xu Bai and said, "Seventh Master, why don't you wash your face first and then go to the kitchen to eat? Our master told me before he left that I should stay home and watch over Seventh Master while he eats breakfast."
