Chapter 43 Understanding

Now that we have an idea, let's get started on it.

After Xu Di had thought it through, he began to inquire about the second daughter of Li Zhubu's family.

The Li family has three children: one boy and two girls. The boy is already married, and his wife is pregnant. It is said that she will give birth to the Li family's eldest grandson next spring. As for the two daughters, the eldest is a gentle and kind person with a very compliant nature. The younger daughter is described by others as not very talkative but good-tempered and always smiling. Zhang Zhaoci, however, says that this young girl has a high emotional intelligence and can handle some unexpected situations very well.

Zhang Zhaoci is not someone who praises others easily. This is probably because Zhang Zhaoci is not only an attending physician in the hospital, but also a professor in the medical school. Studying medicine means fighting against death. Human life is a matter of life and death, and there is no room for carelessness. Therefore, Zhang Zhaoci has very high expectations for his students and even those around him.

Xu Di felt a sense of fear. He felt that there were still many things he needed to do, but he couldn't remember what they were. He was even unsure whether he should do the things he had already decided to do.

Xu Di felt that he was very troubled by some fear, but he wanted to talk to someone to relieve it. However, he didn't know who to talk to. The only people who could understand him were his father and mother. However, he had just come out of his mother's room, so it was not appropriate to go to her again. He simply left his room and wandered to the county government office.

Xu Rao had just finished her work and was brewing a pot of tea, wanting to enjoy this leisure time, when she saw her son strolling over.

Apart from visiting the county government office when he first arrived, Xu Di hadn't been there once in the past two years. Since he came, there must be something he wanted to do.

Xu Rao quickly called Xu Di to his office, poured him a cup of tea, and carefully examined his expression before asking, "Is something bothering you?"

Xu Di smiled and said, "I knew you could tell. There is something I really don't understand how to do. I've been thinking about it for a long time, and I think it would be better to come and talk to you and see if you can give me some advice."

Xu Rao quickly got into position and said, "Okay, then tell me what you think, and see if I can give you some better advice."

Xu Di then recounted his conversation with Zhang Zhaoci in detail. After listening, Xu Rao pondered for a long time and said, "Actually, what your mother said makes a lot of sense. That's really how things are, and that's really how things are. But it's up to you. If you want to, we won't stop you. If you don't want to, we can't force you."

Xu Di sighed and said, "Dad, I think the reason I haven't dated anyone is because I'm a little afraid of marriage. I'm used to being free on my own, and the thought of spending the rest of my life with another person, sleeping in the same bed, and living in the same house scares me."

Xu Rao then asked him, "Then can you tell me properly what you're afraid of?"

Xu Di was stunned for a long time, thought for a long time, and said uncertainly, "Is it because he is afraid of trouble?" This was a question, not a statement, which meant that even he himself did not know what he was afraid of.

Xu Rao smiled and said, "I think you're afraid of change. You don't want to try living a life with just the two of you. Your life consists of studying, experimenting, or writing papers. You enjoy this kind of life and don't want to change it. You know very well that if you start dating or get married in the future, you can't continue living like this anymore. You can't bear to give up this kind of life, so you're afraid."

Xu Di listened and pondered for a moment, then said, "That might be true, but Dad, what do you think? Should I try to get in touch with Lord Li's daughter?"

Xu Rao sighed and said, "I think it's unlikely. You two are already in your teens. In this era, although the border town doesn't place much emphasis on the separation of men and women, it's still unreasonable for the two of you to be alone together."

Xu Di sighed and said, "So, is this really the only way to arrange marriages in the future? What if we don't get to know each other well enough, and then we find out we're not compatible after living together? We can't get a divorce."

Xu Rao said, "Actually, you should trust your mother's judgment. I've been with your mother for so many years, and she has never misjudged people. If she says that the young lady from Lord Li's family is good, then there must be a reason why she thinks she is good. Since she wants you to marry that young lady, it means she thinks that the two of you will definitely be able to live a good life together in the future. You are her son, how could she not understand you?"

Xu Di hesitated for a long time before finally making up his mind and saying, "Since that's the case, then I'll have my mother handle the arrangements. Anyway, it's all the same who I marry, and life goes on no matter how I live it."

Xu Rao shook her head in disagreement and said, "You're wrong to think like that. You make your own life. If you want to live a certain kind of life, you have to work hard for it. Xu Di, who you marry and how you want to live after marriage are actually in your own hands."

Xu Di listened and thought about it seriously, then said, "Father, why don't you and Mom go and discuss it with Lord Li's family? They are willing to marry their daughter to me, and I will definitely treat them well and live a good life with them. I don't have any great abilities, but I can still make sure my wife and children eat and drink well."
