Uliji was groomed by Su Zhiguang. Why was Uliji so eager to invade Daliang and turn it into the territory of the Northern Barbarians? It was because Su Zhiguang constantly praised Daliang, highlighting its prosperity and wealth. This instilled in Uliji a deep interest in this fertile land. Su Zhiguang, however, didn't simply want to be Uliji's teacher; he wanted to use Uliji to conquer Daliang and establish a new order according to his own vision. Unfortunately, he ended up inviting a wolf into the house and negotiating with a tiger for its skin.
Su Zhiguang sat in his chair, sighed, and said, "Fifth Prince, I've thought about it all night and I think we should leave now. We should hurry back the way we came before the Liang soldiers appear behind us. Otherwise, once the Liang soldiers arrive, we'll be meat on their chopping block."
Uliji said nonchalantly, "Mr. Su, didn't we already discuss this matter yesterday? Let's take advantage of this opportunity and march straight to Yanmen Pass. My father has already discussed it with the people of Daliang. We'll take Yanmen Pass, and then Daliang will exchange it for something. I can also gain the approval of those clan elders and smoothly take over my father's position because of this."
Su Zhiguang said, "Fifth Prince, this matter is going too smoothly, so smoothly that it's alarming. I feel uneasy. Let's go."
Uliji stood up, somewhat reluctantly and happily, and said, "Sir, we've come this far, and Yanmen Pass is not far ahead. How can we just turn back like this? My elder brother is waiting for me outside Yanmen Pass."
Su Zhiguang said, "Prince, please listen to me for a moment. We are in great danger now. Let's leave quickly before anyone is behind us, or it will be too late."
Uliji said with a stern face, "Sir, since you want to go back, I will arrange for someone to take you back, but I must go to Yanmen Pass."
Su Zhiguang said angrily, "Prince, I am your teacher. What's the point of me leaving if you don't? Just trust me this once."
Uliji said with a determined look, "Sir, I will send someone to take you back right away. Don't worry, I will give you some of the valuables we seized."
Seeing that he couldn't persuade Wuliji, Su Zhiguang could only sigh and leave. Wuliji sent someone with some things to take Su Zhiguang back to Beidi. What he didn't know was that halfway there, Su Zhiguang found an opportunity to take the things in the bundle and went to Yan, never to return to Beidi.
Upon hearing Wei Lang's words, Uliji recalled what Su Zhiguang had told him, and his unease grew stronger. Looking at the composed Wei Lang in front of him, and then at the Northern Di warriors riding behind him on their warhorses, Uliji felt a sense of fear. He wondered if it would be too late to turn around and leave now.
Looking at Uliji's expression, Wei Lang sneered and said, "Uliji, if you surrender now, I will spare your life. If you remain obstinate, then there's nothing I can do."
Uliji shouted, "We Northern Di people only die in battle, we never surrender! Wei Lang, stop wasting your breath! My men, charge with me!"
The Northern Di cavalry following behind him, along with Uliji, brandished their scimitars and charged forward.
A cloud of dust rose from the ground ahead, followed by a tripwire. As soon as the tripwire was pulled up, the Northern Di cavalrymen fell to the ground one after another. Those behind, seeing the situation was bad, quickly stopped their horses, but they couldn't see and continued to rush forward, so they all fell together.
Amidst the billowing dust, the neighing of warhorses, the roars of the Northern Di cavalry, and curses, Wei Lang and his men simply watched quietly as the Northern Di people met their end not far ahead.
Some of the Northern Di soldiers, sensing the danger, tried to flee. However, they discovered that the west gate of Hexi County had been closed without their knowledge. As they tried to run to either side, countless arrows rained down from the mountains on both sides, and they tragically found themselves trapped.
The fifth prince of the Northern Di was thus captured alive.
The 20,000 elite Northern Di troops were either killed, wounded, or captured. This sneak attack, which attempted to take advantage of the situation, ended in failure.
Granny Lu immediately clasped her hands together in gratitude to all the gods and Buddhas she could name. Then, without even bothering to see how Wei Lang led his men down to clean up the battlefield, she ran towards Yanmen Pass after coming down from the mountain. A guard beside her supported Granny Lu to prevent her from being bumped into. Finally, seeing that Granny Lu could no longer walk, he simply let Granny Lu lie on his back and carried her there.
The Xu family was put into a tent. When Granny Lu arrived, Qingmiao came out carrying a basin of water. When she saw Granny Lu, her eyes immediately reddened, and she called out "Granny" with a pout. When Granny Lu saw her, her legs went weak and she stumbled. Fortunately, the guards around her were quick to catch her and helped her up, so that Granny Lu did not fall to the ground.
Qingmiao quickly put down the washbasin, ran over in a few steps, and said, "Granny, it's so good that you're safe and sound. Miss Li came over and said that you led those Northern Di people into the mountains. We were so scared. Granny, Madam and Young Master are both fine. Don't worry, they've both returned safely."
Granny Lu finally breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Amitabha, it's good that they are safe and sound. It's good that they are safe and sound."
Qingmiao sniffed and said, "But the master and the young master are both injured. Granny, I feel like I have a pillar of support now that you're here."
Granny Lu hurried into the tent, saying as she went, "As long as the person is still alive, that's good. Don't cry anymore. Hurry up and go do what you need to do."
