Chapter 31

Chapter 31

His kiss wasn't gentle; Wen Zhiling was quickly pinned between the bedside table and the edge of the bed. The passionate kiss was irresistible, moving down her neck, warm and moist, lingering ambiguously on her collarbone, hovering, lightly pecking, licking, as if to release all her desire and unfulfilled longing. Because he couldn't leave a mark, naturally, in the instant of his warm breath, he moved to an even more intrusive place.

Wen Zhiling's breath almost stopped for a moment. She hadn't expected him to actually lose control, so determined to leave marks on her face where no one could see them. He wanted to imprint a deep, merciless, and excessive force on her memory forever.

Wherever the kiss touched, the breath was too hot.

Wen Zhiling couldn't bear it, worried that she would witness Zong Linhan's irrational, somewhat crazy side. During their first intimate encounter in the sweltering summer, she had vaguely sensed a fierce and terrifying beast hidden beneath his seemingly calm and gentle exterior. The extreme madness flowing in his blood seemed to be forcibly unleashed during intimate contact, leaving him nowhere to hide.

She tried to speak, but his aggressive kiss interrupted her. His fingertips moved upwards, slipping inside her cotton pajamas, his warm palms brushing against her waist. The hem of her pajamas, lifted from underneath, clung to his arm; from a distance, the scene was both erotic and wanton.

"Zong Linhan, it's too dangerous for me to take suppressants! Calm down!"

Wen Zhiling pushed him away forcefully, which was even more difficult than suppressing her blood-sucking urge.

“Baby…” he breathed slightly, his forehead resting against her collarbone.

His eyes were closed, his eyelashes fluttering. His lips brushed against the almost torn collar of his pajamas, his voice low and husky, like a plea for help, "Don't you want me?"

"Make me take my medicine," Wen Zhiling insisted.

While he was trying to control himself by burying his face in his collar, Wen Zhiling grabbed a tin foil pill and drank it down in one gulp from the glass.

The inhibitor has a slightly bitter taste and works very quickly; the lingering citrus scent fades in less than a minute.

After a moment, Zong Linhan released her and drank water from the cup in her hand.

Wen Zhiling was terrified because he made her sweat profusely.

Her breathing felt like it had been freed, and she could smell the faint fragrance emanating from Zong Linhan. It smelled wonderful, and paired with his fair and slender neck, it created a different kind of attraction.

She was left in a sorry state by him, while he, dressed impeccably, now looked even more like a refined scoundrel.

Wen Zhiling lowered her eyes and glanced at the hem of his T-shirt.

The feigned composure cannot conceal the true physiological reactions.

The cameras were only turned off in her room, so Zong Linhan couldn't stay any longer.

After the two calmed down, Wen Zhiling asked him how long the suppressant would last.

Zong Linhan: "Three days."

Wen Zhiling: "The ones you guys developed are pretty short too..."

Zong Linhan leaned against the farthest wall, keeping his distance from Wen Zhiling. "This is a contraband product. It was only approved after submitting a report. Nobody is doing research and development on this. Among the few sales points circulating in the market, there are people from the Surveillance Bureau mixed in. If you go to buy it yourself, you will be arrested and taken back to the bureau for questioning in ten minutes."

Wen Zhiling said regretfully, "Then I'll have to eat it sparingly, otherwise it will be troublesome if I have a relapse and there's no medicine."

"Wen Zhiling." Zong Linhan narrowed his eyes slightly. "Do you think I'm dead?"

His tone was a bit irritable. Considering his physiological needs, Wen Zhiling generously chose to understand and changed the subject, "In terms of the time limit, shouldn't I be having an attack now?"

Zong Linhan softened his tone, "It was supposed to continue until the recording was halfway through."

Wen Zhiling hesitated for a moment, "Feeling emotionally volatile?"

Zong Linhan: "Possibly."

The two tacitly avoided mentioning Lin Li.

Wen Zhiling hesitated for a moment, then didn't mention Lu Qin.

Lacking evidence and worried about causing trouble for innocent people, she didn't want others to experience the malicious speculation she had encountered in the Li family. She decided to test Lu Qin herself, find out concrete clues, and then tell Zong Linhan.

Zong Linhan walked to the bedside and gently brushed her slightly damp hair with his palm.

Wen Zhiling looked up in confusion, only to meet Zong Linhan's gaze. His gaze was so intense that she thought he was about to say something.

In the end, Zong Linhan said nothing.

He closed the door, walked out of the suite, and went downstairs.

Wen Zhiling has a face that suggests she doesn't trust people. When she has secrets, encounters problems, or doesn't want to communicate with others, she will avoid eye contact and dodge them.

He'd seen it too many times.

-

Wen Zhiling slept for more than an hour. When she woke up, the decorating activity was still going on.

The Li family was in charge of the living room area, which featured an artistic atmosphere with three decorative paintings hanging on the white walls. The Lu family was in charge of the kitchen, which had a mixed style and was decorated with many New Year couplets, with a rebellious, out-of-season theme.

"Chiling, are you feeling better? Come and have some fruit~"

Lu Siyi and Li Wan, who were slacking off, were having afternoon tea in the movie theater when they saw Wen Zhiling passing by and called out to her.

The common area's viewing room is very large, with three long sofas, a coffee table in the middle, and a huge screen in front of it.

The two of them sat on a beanbag chair, enjoying the comfortable air conditioning.

"Do you think I don't exist?" Li Xu's voice came through gritted teeth.

Wen Zhiling turned her head and saw him standing on the tool ladder, nailing paintings to the wall.

Wen Zhiling asked, "Wanwan, how many paintings did you buy? It's like you can't hang them all up."

Li Wan: "Hahaha, this is called digging deep in one direction and trying your luck."

Lu Siyi took a bite of a green grape and said, "Is Teacher Lin serious in private? She would definitely give your group a high score."

Li Wan: "Oh no, she's very easy to get along with and fair. I only found out it was her after I finished shopping. Besides, she didn't even know who was in charge of which area."

Lu Siyi nodded: "That's true."

Wen Zhiling breathed a sigh of relief. That's great. Ms. Lin won't give Zong Linhan a low score because of her. She won't drag him down again.

Lu Siyi raised her face: "But it's not just this score. There are other scoring items later. Once we get to know each other better, it will be easy to guess."

Wen Zhiling's heart, which had been at ease, was once again on edge.

Li Wan laughed: "You're overthinking it. She's strict, but she's a super nice and gentle person. Right, Xiao Xu!"

After hammering in the nails, Li Xu jumped down the stairs without even glancing at them, and bent down to collect his tools.

He walked past the coffee table, bent down to pick up a chocolate bar, and glanced at Wen Zhiling as he stood up.

Wen Zhiling sat on the side, hugging her legs, forking a piece of watermelon and putting it in her mouth. Her face was rosier than usual, and her cheeks were bulging as she chewed. She had changed into a light pink crew-neck sweatshirt, which looked very cute. The skin on her shoulders and neck appeared even whiter against the background. Li Xu looked away and caught a glimpse of a red mark.

He paused slightly, his gaze momentarily stung as if burned, before quickly looking away and maintaining his composure.

Li Wan retorted, "I'm asking you a question, you silly little brother!"

Li Xu said coldly, "I don't know."

He strode out of the room, the veins on his hand gripping the toolbox bulging.

Lu Siyi propped herself up with her hands behind her back and lay down on the cold floor tiles. "Back then, I had just participated in the audition. Teacher Lin came to visit her friend, and I benefited from her guidance. She was incredibly accurate in her words, pointing out my problems right to the heart. I was too reserved and timid, and I was afraid to sing even before I started."

Li Wan picked out strawberries from the fruit platter. "My aunt has been in the industry for many years. She's seen all kinds of things. She's very good at judging people. She gets straight to the point. If she says you're good, you're good. If she says you're bad, then you must have a problem."

The icy watermelon squeezed out juice between her lips and teeth, not as sweet as the first one. Wen Zhiling put down her fork and stood up. "I'm going to see my brother."

The staff in the hallway told her that Zong Linhan was in his study on the second floor.

On the way upstairs, I met Lu Qin, who was holding a birdcage-like object covered with a cloth.

In addition to the scoring for the decoration competition, everyone tacitly prepared small gifts to win over the guests.

Wen Zhiling looked at it curiously a few more times. Lu Qin stopped and pretended to lift the red cloth. "Want to see?"

Wen Zhiling quickly said, "No, no, let's leave some suspense for tomorrow. Otherwise, I can't fake seeing it for the first time tomorrow."

Lu Qin smiled and asked, "Are you feeling any better?"

Wen Zhiling: "Mm."

Lu Qin pulled the red cloth strip to cover himself more completely. "I originally wanted to bring you medicine, but Siyi said your brother had also prepared some."

Wen Zhiling: "It's heatstroke."

Lu Qin smiled and said, "Don't take minor ailments lightly. There's only one hospital on the island, and it's far away. The production team may not have any first aid experience."

Wen Zhiling thought to herself that this was too exaggerated, but since she wasn't very familiar with Lu Qin, she chose to reply with a half-flattering tone: "With Dr. Lu here, the production team can definitely rest assured that nothing serious will happen."

Lu Qin smiled and said, "I didn't study it either... but if you're really feeling unwell, you can come to me. I have medicine on hand for minor headaches and ailments."

The second-floor corridor was filled with green plants of varying shades, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Wen Zhiling walked to the end of the path. The study door was open, and Zong Linhan was standing in front of a piano. Hearing footsteps, he turned around and asked, "Awake? Why don't you sleep a little longer?"

Wen Zhiling: "Mm."

She told Zong Linhan the information she had gathered, "It seems that Dr. Lu has prepared a mysterious gift for the guests. Will our purchases be outdone?"

"No." Zong Linhan said firmly.

Wen Zhiling took a few steps forward and stopped five steps away from Zong Linhan.

A gentle breeze blew in through the open window, causing the sheer curtains to flutter lightly, and a faint scent of citrus wafted over.

Wen Zhiling stood there, somewhat incredulous. Hadn't she just taken her medicine?
