Chapter 5 shows her anger and dejection. ...

In his previous life, Song Wuqi was on a business trip in Guangzhou and did not attend Xia Xiner's birthday party.

Tang Ranzhen never expected to see her here.

And Ye Xiaoyu.

She wasn't part of the small group, nor was she someone who should be here.

Ye Xiaoyu wore a white evening gown with a simple and smooth design and soft, comfortable fabric, which was clearly not an ordinary dress.

Tang Ran remembered that Ye Xiaoyu's family wasn't very wealthy, so there was no way she would be willing to buy a dress that cost at least ten times her assistant's salary.

Looking at Song Wuqi standing in front of her, her sparkling gemstone necklace paired with a champagne-colored fishtail dress gave her a completely different style from Ye Xiaoyu.

If Tang Ran hadn't received the photos sent to her by the private investigator.

So she really wouldn't suspect that the two people had any relationship.

But more than anything else, what really puzzled Tang Ran was whether Song Wuqi had secretly taken the drug that made Sun Xiao act crazy, which would lead him to such an absurd act as bringing Ye Xiaoyu to Xia Xin'er's birthday party?

Or did Song Wuqi think that the slap she gave him wasn't enough?

Or did Song Wuqi really think she was a blind idiot who could be easily fooled?

Tang Ran gave a self-deprecating sneer.

In her past life, wasn't she just a blind idiot? Ye Xiaoyu and Song Wuqi secretly had a child right under her nose, and she stupidly thought that Song Wuqi loved her.

If Tang Ran looked at this pair of scumbags standing together any longer, she was afraid she would lose her temper and stab them to death in public with the dessert knife.

She turned and walked out, wanting to get some fresh air and suppress the nausea rising in her.

"Tang Ran".

Seeing her walk out, Song Wuqi immediately followed.

Ye Xiaoyu watched Song Wuqi's retreating figure, biting her lip secretly, but the bite was fleeting, replaced by a smile.

Holding the gift box in her hand, she walked up to Lu Shuyang and said, "Senior sister, this is a gift for Miss Xia. I hope Miss Xia won't find it offensive."

Ye Xiaoyu is Lu Shuyang's junior classmate under the same mentor. Lu Shuyang has a good relationship with his mentor and often visits her even after graduation.

She often heard her mentor mention this junior, who was hardworking and capable, and wanted Lu Shuyang to mentor her.

Lu Shuyang originally wanted to introduce Ye Xiaoyu to work at Lu's Group, but Xin'er disagreed, so she recommended Ye Xiaoyu to Song's Group instead.

Of course, she only made a recommendation. Ye Xiaoyu was able to stay and become Song Wuqi's assistant because she fought for it herself.

Ye Xiaoyu's work ability is indeed quite good.

Seeing her appear with Song Wuqi today, Lu Shuyang regretted agreeing to his mentor's request.

Ye Xiaoyu is far from being as naive as her mentor thought.

She didn't invite Ye Xiaoyu to the birthday party, and Ye Xiaoyu shouldn't have come with Song Wuqi either.

Lu Shuyang's innate good manners prevented him from making the impolite move of directly kicking someone out.

She accepted the gift and said calmly, "Thank you."

Ye Xiaoyu lowered her head shyly, "Senior sister, you don't need to be so polite. I was able to go to Song's thanks to your recommendation. I wonder if you have time tomorrow, senior sister? I'd like to..."

"Shuyang, come here for a moment."

Her words were interrupted by Xia Xin'er's call.

Lu Shuyang gave Ye Xiaoyu an apologetic look, then turned and left.

Ye Xiaoyu doesn't even respect herself, so Lu Shuyang doesn't need to maintain any decorum either.

Startled for a moment, Ye Xiaoyu put on a pitiful, hurt expression.

After Lu Shuyang walked over, Xia Xin'er pouted unhappily, "She's not a good person, don't talk to her anymore."

"Okay." Lu Shuyang affectionately patted her head.

In the courtyard.

"Ranran, let me explain." Song Wuqi pulled Tang Ran back. "Ye Xiaoyu is Lu Shuyang's junior sister. I didn't bring her here."

She thought Tang Ran was jealous because she saw her with Ye Xiaoyu, which is why she got angry and left.

Ye Xiaoyu did not come with her, but Song Wuqi did not refuse when Ye Xiaoyu said she wanted to thank Lu Shuyang.

She got another invitation for Ye Xiaoyu, and when they bumped into each other at the door, she didn't try to avoid it.

The main reason Song Wuqi did this was because of Tang Ran.

After the argument at the bar that day, Tang Ran never contacted her again.

The longer time went on, the more uneasy Song Wuqi felt, as if if she stopped contacting Tang Ran, Tang Ran would never talk to her again.

Unsure of Tang Ran's attitude, she devised a way to test her.

Tang Ran argued with her because of Ye Xiaoyu. If Tang Ran still gets angry when she and Ye Xiaoyu appear together, it proves that Tang Ran still cares about her.

As it turned out, her test worked, and Tang Ran's reaction put Song Wuqi's mind at ease.

"You two are fine, why are you so nervous?"

Tang Ran shook off her hand, raised an eyebrow, and said indifferently, "Anyone who didn't know better would think you were feeling guilty."

On several nights while on business trips, Ye Xiaoyu left Song Wuqi's room late at night.

As for whether they were really discussing work or doing something else, Tang Ran was too lazy to guess.

The photos she received ten minutes earlier bluntly exposed that Song Wuqi's self-righteous explanations were nothing but lies.

"No, no, I was just afraid you'd misunderstand, that's why I explained." Song Wuqi quickly denied it. "I'm glad you didn't misunderstand. I brought you a gift from Guangzhou."

She took out the necklace she had bought. Her pride as a young lady prevented her from saying she didn't want to be angry anymore. She wanted to use the gift as a way to put an end to their week-long argument and cold war.

They didn't argue, so it wasn't her who apologized first.

Tang Ran sneered inwardly.

In their previous life, the two were married for three years. Even though they spent little time together, Tang Ran still understood her well.

Especially after seeing through Song Wuqi's hypocritical mask, Tang Ran could tell what Song Wuqi wanted to do just by looking at his expression.

Tang Ran took the gift, opened it, glanced at it, and then put it away, acting as if nothing had happened. She asked, "Did you come back last night?"

For Song Wuqi, what she wanted was not just a simple breakup. Before she could achieve her goal, Tang Ran didn't mind enduring the disgust and playing along with her.

"Hmm." Song Wuqi breathed a sigh of relief and nodded with a smile.

Tang Ran knew she had returned at night, which meant she had obviously inquired about her itinerary.

Her lukewarm reaction to the gift was automatically attributed by Song Wuqi to the fact that Tang Ran was used to seeing nice things and would certainly not be as moved to tears as Ye Xiaoyu was by a dress.

Song Wuqi chattered on and on about his business trip to Tang Ran, who casually gave perfunctory replies while secretly plotting how to make her plans even more perfect.

Simply exposing Song Wuqi's mask would be too boring and too merciful.

She wanted to slowly and painstakingly torture Song Wuqi, like she had been tortured in her previous life.

Hope rose again and again, only to be dashed time and time again, until finally utter despair.

A lively sound came from the backyard. Lu Shuyang had specially hired a band to sing for the party, and judging from the noise, it must have started.

Tang Ran quickened her pace and walked to the back. As soon as she entered the courtyard, someone came over to greet and chat with them.

From a distance, they spotted Ye Xiaoyu and Sun Xiao in the crowd. Both of them were looking in their direction with equally mournful eyes.

Tang Ran smiled and deliberately put her arm around Song Wuqi's arm. "I'm going to find Xin'er."

Her tone of voice was completely devoid of emotion, but her actions made others think the two were very intimate.

Song Wuqi thought so too.

The background music was too loud, and she couldn't hear Tang Ran's tone at all. She just smiled and nodded at her.

Tang Ran deliberately patted her arm before leaving, glancing at the other two with disdain in her eyes before she left.

Tang Ran smiled even more broadly, having witnessed an even deeper burning jealousy.

Tang Ran walked away quickly.

If she stayed with Song Wuqi any longer, she would feel like throwing up the leftovers from yesterday.

Being able to annoy both Ye Xiaoyu and Sun Xiao at the same time is an unexpected bonus.

I wonder if she'll get a good show to watch next.

I just hope Ye Xiaoyu won't let her down.

Tang Ran took a glass of red wine from the waiter's tray and whispered something to the waiter.

The waitress hesitated for a moment, and Tang Ran looked at her with her eyes crinkling, her smile exceptionally beautiful.

The waiter blushed slightly, nodded, and opened his phone to show the QR code.

Tang Ran took a sip of wine, put the glass back on the tray, smiled at her, and turned to go upstairs.

The waiter stared blankly at the light red mark on the glass for a long while.

My phone beeped.

Blushing, she snapped out of her daze, quickly pulled out her phone, and saw a friend request. Surprised, she turned back to look for Tang Ran.

Tang Ran stood on the second-floor terrace, her body slightly bent, her hand resting on the railing as she looked out over the courtyard, her posture languid.

When her gaze fell upon the waitress, she winked at her.

The waitress's face flushed again. She lowered her head, took a deep breath, and walked towards the kitchen.

Tang Ran's eyebrows curved into crescent moons as she withdrew her gaze, turned around, leaned against the railing, and looked at the boundless night sky, the smile on her face slowly fading.

The calm, dark blue could soothe the clamor and anger in her heart. Tang Ran slowed her breathing and her vision went out of focus.

The villa next door.

Murong Yi lay leisurely on the rattan chair, scrolling through her phone.

Two message notifications appeared at the top of the screen. She opened them casually and sat up abruptly.

The rattan chair hit the ground with a thud.

Standing by the railing, Song Zhixu turned around at the sound, and Murong Yi quickly handed her her phone. "It's from Xiao He. Should we stop it?"

Song Zhixu glanced at it and calmly said, "Promise her."

Murong Yi raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised, and sat back in her rocking chair to reply to Xiao He's message.

A burst of rapid drumbeats pulled Tang Ran back from her reverie. She looked down and saw the waiter leading Song Wuqi into the villa.

The south side of the villa's central courtyard features a floor-to-ceiling glass window that extends all the way, allowing a clear view inside from the terrace.

The waiter led Song Wuqi to a guest room on the first floor, and a short while later, Ye Xiaoyu also entered the villa.

A smile returned to Tang Ran's brow. She looked away, calmly straightened her clothes, and prepared to go downstairs.

As Tang Ran stepped down the stairs, she subconsciously glanced to the side.

My gaze unexpectedly met a pair of light brown eyes, their gentle light like a clear spring rippling with soft light.

The owner of those eyes was the same powerful young lady I met in the front yard.

Xia Mo and Xia Xin'er's villas have the same design, separated by half of each other's gardens.

Like Tang Ran, Song Zhixu stood on the second-floor terrace of the villa next door.

Tang Ran felt a sudden, inexplicable panic, as if the person opposite her had not only seen all her little movements, but also seen through her thoughts.

I saw her anger and dejection.

Tang Ran quickly turned around, pretending not to see her, and went downstairs without looking back.

Stepping into the villa, Tang Ran turned around to make sure the people next door could no longer see her before she readjusted her breathing.

The waiter standing guard at the door breathed a huge sigh of relief when he saw her coming.

Tang Ran raised the corners of her lips and knocked on the door of the guest room.
