Chapter 16 Students
Zhou Jingzhan knew that Chu Yunqi was resentful of his father, so he consoled him, "Don't say that. Uncle Chu has been very kind to you. He's supported you in everything you've done, whether useful or not, since you were a kid."
Chu Yunqi got even angrier when he said this. "He didn't stop me, but he forced me to keep learning everything I came into contact with, even if I lost interest later. My spare time in elementary and middle school was filled with various interest classes. Is that what he calls being nice to me?"
There was really no way to refute it. Zhou Jingzhan even clearly remembered that Chu Yunqi had broken the skin on his fingers while playing the piano, so he skipped the topic and said, "Come over for dinner."
A moment later, the dining table was empty with only a pot of porridge on it.
Chu Yunqi looked unconvinced: "Only porridge?"
Zhou Jingzhan habitually placed the porridge in front of him, then put the spoon in his hand and said seriously, "Jingyang rice is worthy of your precious stomach. Eat it."
"I've been hungry all day."
"Ice..." Before he could finish his words, his cell phone rang. Zhou Jingzhan glanced down, then hung up without changing his expression. He put the phone upside down on the table before explaining, "There's nothing in the refrigerator you can eat."
"Oh." This made Chu Yunqi feel a little relieved. As long as Zhou Jingzhan didn't want to do it, it would be fine.
After a while, the phone rang tirelessly again. Zhou Jingzhan answered it impatiently: "Hello?"
A young man's voice came from the other side, calling out "Teacher Zhou" happily.
Although Zhou Jingzhan did not turn on the speaker, there was no noise around, and he and Chu Yunqi were sitting face to face, so Chu Yunqi inevitably heard the voice of "Teacher Zhou".
Zhou Jingzhan stared at Chu Yunqi's slow movements while eating, and responded coldly: "Is there something wrong?"
The voice on the other end was obviously not as cheerful as before, with a hint of grievance: "Are you free tomorrow? Can I come to your house to see you? I want you to help me with my thesis."
Chu Yunqi hadn't thought much of it, thinking it might just be a young student. But what had he just said?! He actually said he was coming to see Zhou Jingzhan! He was coming to Zhou Jingzhan's house!
This made Chu Yunqi jealous. Regardless of the fact that the phone was still on, he suddenly said, "Pass me a piece of paper."
Zhou Jingzhan rolled his eyes at the tissue that Chu Yunqi could reach, and pulled out a few pieces of paper for him before going to answer the phone.
The boy, who was anxiously waiting for a reply, was stunned when he heard Chu Yunqi's voice. He listened blankly to Zhou Jingzhan's answer: "If you have any questions, send an email."
"Teacher Zhou, are you at home?" The boy seemed to know Zhou Jingzhan very well. He knew that he didn't have many entertainment activities and usually went straight home after get off work.
"Yeah." Zhou Jingzhan responded lightly, then said he had something to do and hung up the phone.
The boy who called was called Xu Ye.
After being hung up, Xu Ye still didn't come back to his senses. He had liked Zhou Jingzhan since undergraduate studies, and later tried his best to get into his graduate school.
After a year of being together, Xu Ye knew very well that Zhou Jingzhan had mysophobia, so even though he tried his best, he did not have any physical contact with Zhou Jingzhan, let alone bring him home.
It was precisely because of this that Xu Ye was stunned when he heard Zhou Jingzhan admit in person that someone was in his house.
Chu Yunqi pretended to be indifferent and asked, "Who called you?"
Zhou Jingzhan felt like he was about to be drowned by Shanxi aged vinegar. He smiled and teased, "Why do I smell such a strong smell of vinegar?"
“…”
"He's a second-year graduate student. He asked me to read his paper." Zhou Jingzhan explained very consciously.
"Is there no place for you to stay in such a big city like Beijing? Do I need to come to your house to work on my thesis? Is the living room not suitable and should I move to the bedroom?"
Zhou Jingzhan deliberately wanted to test Chu Yunqi, so he pretended to be guilty.
Chu Yunqi never thinks before speaking, and he just said those words casually. When he saw Zhou Jingzhan lowering his head and agreeing, he realized that he had made a mess of things.
Thinking about how he had been pure and celibate for Zhou Jingzhan for so many years, while this little bastard was flirting with other women everywhere, Chu Yunqi was so angry that he threw the porcelain spoon on the table in excitement, and the pieces flew everywhere.
Chu Yunqi had a bad temper, so Zhou Jingzhan was not surprised that he threw things, but when he saw the blood on the spoon fragments, he still panicked, fearing that he had hurt his hand.
Zhou Jingzhan didn't expect that this incident would make him so angry, and he also realized that he had gone too far.
It is said that the fingers are connected to the heart. Chu Yunqi felt it at this moment. The injury on his fingers made his heart ache.
The wound was not deep, but it was about one centimeter long. Blood flowed out and dripped along Chu Yunqi's fingers into the bowl.
Before Chu Yunqi even said it hurt, Zhou Jingzhan frowned and stood up to look for a Band-Aid.
Zhou Jingzhan used tweezers and an alcohol cotton ball to clean the blood. When he touched the wound, Chu Yunqi's scalp tingled with pain and he wanted to pull his hand back.
Zhou Jingzhan was anxious, and when Chu Yunqi dodged, he became even more annoyed. He pulled his arm back with force, and said harshly: "Hold it, don't move around."
Logically, Chu Yunqi should have scolded him, Zhou Jingzhan thought to himself, and continued to play the fool, "Doesn't it hurt?"
Chu Yunqi answered the question irrelevantly: "Have you had sex with him? Have you had sex with Tao Mo?"
Zhou Jingzhan remained silent.
In Chu Yunqi's eyes, silence was equal to consent, and in an instant he felt his blood pressure rise.
The two of them had never had sex in three years. The reason was simple: Chu Yunqi was afraid of pain, and Zhou Jingzhan was too embarrassed to do so. So the matter was delayed again and again, and it has been ten years since they officially started dating.
Chu Yunqi felt more pain in his heart than in his hands when someone else got to the thing he hadn't touched before. He went home without caring.
In fact, Zhou Jingzhan himself didn't understand why he always felt such a great sense of guilt.
It was Chu Yunqi who had initially attempted suicide and wanted to leave the country, and it was also Chu Yunqi who had not deleted his contact information but had endured seven years of no contact. Regardless of how it was viewed, it seemed Zhou Jingzhan had no reason to feel guilty about this.
But strangely, this feeling was not the first time that Zhou Jingzhan had been overwhelmed.
He and Tao Mo started to get together after he returned to China half a year ago, but not long after they got together, Zhou Jingzhan found that no matter what Tao Mo did, he would uncontrollably think of Chu Yunqi.
Once he did something to Tao Mo that Chu Yunqi had never done to anyone else, he would feel that he was sorry for Chu Yunqi.
Zhou Jingzhan thought that this strange idea would disappear over time, but the opposite was true.
After learning that Chu Yunqi had returned to China, all his disguises were exposed. He found that he had never forgotten Chu Yunqi over the years, let alone let him go, so much so that he felt relieved when Tao Mo broke up with him.
Zhou Jingzhan went to clean up the mess made by Chu Yunqi without any emotion. He was a mysophobia, so he had to clean it up.
The bloodstains on the table and the floor had not yet dried, and Zhou Jingzhan knew clearly that they belonged to Chu Yunqi.
He was so afraid of pain, but he still hurt himself after hearing that he was with someone else.
Perhaps Chu Yunqi hadn't let it go either? Zhou Jingzhan knew Chu Yunqi's character perfectly well, having been friends for over twenty years. But he couldn't understand why he'd gone abroad.
