Chapter 23 Differences

Chapter 23 Differences

As soon as Chu Yunqi said this, Chu Shaobo lost his temper and said with full force: "Both of you, get out here."

Chu Yunqi and Chu Mingxu followed their father into the ancestral hall with ease.

Chu Yunqi certainly knew that his father would never take him to the ancestral hall to chat. He understood that he should kneel when he came in. There were mats in front of the ancestral hall. It seemed that his mistake this time was a bit serious. He was struggling with whether he should kneel on the mat.

While he was struggling, Chu Shaobo had already lost his patience and said in a cold voice, "Kneel down."

Chu Mingxu knelt down swiftly across the mat.

With a sample, Chu Yunqi stopped hesitating and followed his brother to kneel on the mat.

However, Chu Shaobo was dissatisfied with his kneeling: "Do you have the nerve to kneel on the mat?"

Chu Yunqi silently moved the cushion away; his knees were already hurting.

After Chu Shaobo was satisfied, he looked down at his two sons and said to Chu Mingxu, "You speak first."

"I shouldn't have spoiled Chu Yunqi too much. I can't just hide things from him when he asked me to. I will never collude with him like this again." He sounded sincere in admitting his mistake, but he also tricked Chu Yunqi.

"Okay, since you know you're wrong, go back first."

Chu Mingxu left without looking back.

Chu Yunqi didn't expect his father to be so soft-hearted this time. He thought that if he confessed and quickly revealed all his mistakes, he could go home earlier. The less time he had to kneel, the better.

So before his father could even speak, Chu Yunqi admitted his mistake: "I should have listened to you seven years ago. I shouldn't have gone abroad against the wishes of you, Grandpa, and Mom. I should have come back during the Lunar New Year, and I shouldn't have kept my return a secret from my family. I know I was wrong."

As soon as he finished speaking, Chu Yunqi was hit on the shoulder. Although he was used to it, he still groaned in pain, and he didn't understand why Chu Mingxu was not hit.

When he was puzzled, Chu Shaobo spoke: "You know it's wrong but you still do it. Kneel down." After saying that, he left the ancestral hall.

Chu Yunqi cursed in his heart, why were they treated differently? Chu Mingxu could just admit his mistake and leave, but he had to continue kneeling after being beaten. How was this fair and just?

Half an hour later, Chu Jun pushed the door open again.

Fortunately, Chu Yunqi didn't have the courage to be lazy, so he was kneeling properly when he came in.

Perhaps because he has grown older in the past two years, Chu Jun is not as strict with his descendants as before, and he has no intention of beating Chu Yunqi this time.

He simply asked calmly, "Are you leaving again after you come back this time?"

Chu Yunqi was stunned for a second, then replied, "I'm not leaving."

"Yeah." Chu Jun nodded with relief. "It's good you're back. It wasn't that we didn't want you to go abroad back then. It was mainly because of the Zhou family's grandson. You were talking to him and suddenly left. What did you think of him? You have a stubborn temper, which is inherited from your father. In the end, you still left. But do you know that because of this, the relationship between our two families has become estranged. We don't visit each other much during the holidays. I feel ashamed every time I see Old Zhou, you know?"

Chu Yunqi actually didn't want to respond to this question at all, and just responded: "I know, I'm sorry to have troubled you."

"Ah." Chu Jun sighed. "If you don't want to talk about your relationship with Jing Zhan, I won't ask. But in the end, you are the one who has let down that child, and our Chu family is also ashamed of the Zhou family. Old Zhou and his family all treat Jing Zhan as their treasured child. Why did he suffer such a great injustice from you? In any case, you two are in the same profession, and there will always be a chance to meet. When you meet, have a good talk with him and apologize to him. It can be considered an explanation. Also, I don't expect you to find me a granddaughter-in-law, but don't bring anyone home. Not everyone can enter the Chu family. As for Jing Zhan... Actually, I like that child very much. He is also very outstanding. Old Zhou didn't oppose you two at the beginning. If there is a chance, I still hope that you can reconcile. After all, it's not easy to have someone who is as good as you in all aspects."

"I understand, Grandpa. I always have him in my heart. I will do my best for him."

"Alright, I won't interfere in your affairs. You can figure it out on your own. Get up, don't kneel."

Chu Yunqi stood up with great effort and endured the pain to support his grandfather.

Chu Jun didn't appreciate it and took his arm back: "I'm not to the point where I can't walk yet, I don't need help."

Chu Yunqi had no choice but to give up. Chu Jun did not forget to teach his grandson as he walked: "When your mother comes back and sees you, she will definitely be very happy. Although she won't show it, you must know in your heart how much she misses you and how much she can't bear to leave you."

"I know everything."

The two chatted about some random things and then returned to the living room.

Chu Shaobo was still sitting there. When he saw Chu Yunqi come back, he didn't say anything. He just said stiffly, "Hurry up and change your clothes. It's not a good thing to be covered in blood."

Chu Yunqi agreed, and Chu Mingxu eagerly wanted to accompany him up, but was stopped by Chu Shaobo. How could he not know what his eldest son was thinking? This time, if they went up, he would just beat Chu Yunqi up, and in the end both of them would suffer losses.

Since I had already spoken, Chu Mingxu had no choice but to give up and kept thinking about how to take revenge on Chu Yunqi.

After changing clothes and coming down, the atmosphere in the living room returned to normal.

Chu Mingxu tactfully asked the elders the question they were concerned about but too embarrassed to ask: "Did you get an IV? What's wrong?"

"It's acute pneumonia. It will be fine in two days."

"So what have you been doing all this time?"

"After I came back, I went to work at the Peking University Affiliated Hospital, in the same department as Zhou Jingzhan."

The three of them silently praised Chu Yun in their hearts. He was worthy of being their child. He was efficient in doing things and had quickly established a closer relationship with Zhou Jingzhan.

Hearing this, Chu Shaobo's expression relaxed and he asked, "So, are you planning to work in clinical practice?"

"Yeah, that's what I think." Chu Yunqi answered perfunctorily. He really hadn't decided what he wanted to do. He might quit his job and go into business on a whim one day.

"Why is there a Ferrari parked at the door? Did you drive it back?"

"...Xia Baiming's, I only opened it for a few days."

Chu Shaobo nodded thoughtfully: "It's not good to keep doing this. You can drive my car and save the trouble of buying a new one."

Chu Yunqi certainly didn't want to give up his beloved car: "What do you want to drive if I drive it?"

"I have a driver."

Chu Yunqi: "..." He shouldn't have asked.

As soon as he finished speaking, his mother came back. When she saw Chu Yunqi, she was visibly excited. Chu Yunqi called her mother.

Ding Liyao approached her son and excitedly asked, "You just got back, right? Would you consider staying at home for a day this time?"

"I'm not leaving."

Hearing this, Ding Liyao was stunned for a moment, and then her eyes turned red.

Seeing this situation, Chu Shaobo quickly comforted him: "He's back now, don't be sad."

Chu Mingxu also added: "Yes, Mom, don't cry."

Ding Liyao was happy that her son was back, and she forced herself to smile. But when she saw the bruises all over the back of Chu Yunqi's hand, she couldn't hide her heartache: "What happened? How did it become like this?"

"I had a bit of a cough these past two days, so I went to the hospital for an IV. I didn't hold the needle properly after I pulled it out, so I bled a little, but it's nothing."

How could his own son not understand? Although Chu Yunqi said that he was fine, who knows how much pain he must be in.

This is just what she saw. How much more has she not seen in these seven years?

When Ding Liyao thought about how her son had suffered outside for so many years, her eyes turned red again.

There was no way they could have a good chat now. Chu Jun understood this and went out quietly.

In the afternoon, the whole family except Chu Jun went to Yanjiao to see Zou Yuhua, and Chu Yunqi returned home in the evening.
