Chapter 37 Blind Date

Chapter 37 Blind Date

It turned out that Xia Baiming's call was very effective. Soon, Zuo Zhenqi called Chu Yunqi's phone. "Hello, Yunqi, it's me, Zuo Zhenqi."

There was a five-year age difference between the two, but they were considered to have a good personal relationship. They kept in touch after returning to China, but they had never met in person. "Brother Zhenqi, why did you think of calling me?"

"Hey, I just found out you're here as a medical supporter in Pingyang County. I'm here too, so how about we have dinner together tonight and catch up?"

Chu Yunqi readily agreed. He was not curious about how Zuo Zhenqi knew about his Pingyang County. He only had a few friends in China, so it wouldn't be difficult for the news to spread.

Zuo Zhenqi made an appointment with him at a local old restaurant. Chu Yunqi didn't recognize Zuo Zhenqi at first glance because he looked much older than he had imagined. It wasn't his appearance, but his dress, which made him look like he was almost forty.

Zuo Zhenqi explained with a smile, "There's no other way. I can't get my work done if I dress up like that."

Chu Yunqi asked casually, "You have to stay here for a year or two, what about your sister-in-law and the child?"

Zuo Zhenqi paused holding the beer bottle, then smiled calmly, "Divorce, the child is with me, my mother is taking care of him in Beijing."

“…” Chu Yunqi really didn’t know about this, no one had ever mentioned it to him.

Zuo Zhenqi spoke first, "I just left not long ago, and I haven't told you yet. Okay, let's not talk about my little things. How are you? Are you not used to living in the countryside?"

Chu Yunqi did complain a lot in his heart after seeing the accommodation, but he was not the kind of person who would be pretentious regardless of the occasion. "It's okay, I can adapt."

After all, they had known each other for many years, and the two had a pleasant conversation, mentioning some common friends from time to time, but Zhou Jingzhan was not one of them.

After dinner, Zuo Zhenqi strongly requested to visit his home. Chu Yunqi happened to be in need of free labor, so he readily agreed.

It was almost ten o'clock when Zuo Zhenqi cleaned the house for him, and Chu Yunqi was cutting an apple for him.

Zuo Zhenqi came closer and saw that there was much thunder but little rain. He took the apple core that Chu Yunqi had left and took a bite. "Alright, why are you being so polite to me? The house is almost cleaned up. If you have any problems later, feel free to come to me." He handed the car keys to Chu Yunqi and said, "This is my car. You can drive it first. You can use it for transportation."

The county party secretary was extremely busy and had no time to care about him. Chu Yunqi knew this, but he did not refuse his car keys. "Thank you, Brother Zhenqi."

When Zuo Zhenqi left, he had basically solved Chu Yunqi's food, clothing, housing and transportation problems for the next month, so Chu Yunqi stood at the door and smiled as he left.

Zuo Zhenqi gave him a helpless smile in return.

In the next week, Chu Yunqi was invited to Zuo Zhenqi's house for dinner almost every day, while Zhou Jingzhan was repeatedly urged to go home by his parents.

On the weekend night, Zhou Jingzhan couldn't bear it anymore and squeezed out time to go home.

His uncle, aunt, and cousin were there too.

This family is quite strange. Both parents are university professors and highly educated, but their daughter Zhou Yi knows nothing about studying. Fortunately, she has a talent for dancing and was admitted to a good film academy in Beijing, so she will not have to starve in the future.

The family talked about the past and present, and finally focused on Zhou Jingzhan's work and love life.

Zhou's father asked, "How is your work lately?"

"Very busy."

"You've spent more time with Yunqi, have you made any progress?" Qin Huiping asked curiously.

"No, I haven't contacted him for a long time. He's not in Beijing," Zhou Jingzhan said calmly, and then added softly, "I don't seem to care too much."

Father Zhou pretended to be casual and said, "Oh, then you better hurry up. You don't know how many people have talked to me about your marriage. I feel embarrassed to refuse them."

Uncle Zhou Jingzhan also said, "It just so happens that I have a student who is a good girl. Aren't you going to Peking University tomorrow? It's a good opportunity to meet her for dinner."

"I don't like girls. If I go, I will only bring trouble to the girls. I won't go." Zhou Jingzhan refused bluntly.

"You've never been in a relationship, so how do you know you don't like it? What if you do like this? Even if it doesn't work out in the end, it won't hurt to have more friends. You're almost thirty and there's no progress at all. It's not a good thing to keep going like this."

Zhou Jingzhan was silent. He thought for a while. It seemed that since he was a child, he had never considered anyone else except Chu Yunqi. After seven years of separation, they met again, but they didn't seem so inseparable from each other. Moreover, he had suspected more than once that Chu Yunqi, a straight man, agreed to the relationship just to coax him.

Thinking about it this way, Zhou Jingzhan felt that the best ending for him and Chu Yunqi would be for each of them to get married and have children, so that both families would be happy.

In the end, Zhou Jingzhan agreed.

The girl his uncle introduced to him was Wen Shuyun, a 23-year-old from Zhejiang province, a graduate student in the Department of Architecture at Peking University.

That night, Zhou Jingzhan added Wen Shuyun on WeChat, but was rejected.

The next day, Zhou Jingzhan finished surgery at nine o'clock. On his way to Peking University for class, Wen Shuyun passed by and said that he had just seen him. The two agreed to meet after class.

At 11:40, after class, Zhou Jingzhan came to the teaching building where Wen Shuyun was and waited for her.

Three minutes later, Zhou Jingzhan saw a girl with outstanding temperament coming out of the teaching building.

The girl had fair skin, delicate features, long hair that fell past her shoulders, and a thin jacket over a smoky blue long skirt. After recognizing Zhou Jingzhan, she walked towards him with a generous smile.

Zhou Jingzhan’s first impression of Wen Shuyun was that she was gentle, the type that Chu Yunqi would like.

After all, they had been in school for more than ten years, so they were not completely at a loss for words. However, they were not really familiar with each other, and they maintained a sense of distance from each other.

Because it was lunchtime, the two went to a French restaurant. Wen Shuyun took the initiative to ask the most down-to-earth question between the two, "Doctors are very busy, how do you have time for blind dates?"

"I'm not that busy every day, I can spare some time occasionally."

What he said is true. For example, today, if nothing unexpected happens, he will have free time in the afternoon after he finishes his work in the morning.

"What about you? Are your studies heavy?"

"It's okay. At least it's not as burdensome as being a doctor. It's up to me whether to study or not."

In the next two weeks, Zhou Jingzhan and Wen Shuyun had dinner together several times. Their conversations were no longer as polite as at the beginning, and they often talked about interesting things in their studies and work.

Chu Yunqi gradually got used to it, and with Zuo Zhenqi always by his side, he didn't feel bored even if Zhou Jingzhan ignored him.

It was a coincidence that after one month, Chu Yunqi had just returned to the capital, and it was the birthday of Luo Ziyang's girlfriend Fang Ranzhi.

Luo Ziyang specifically called Chu Yunqi and told him that he must be there in the evening. He planned to propose to her tonight. They were all friends and knew each other, so Chu Yunqi had no reason to refuse.

Zhou Jingzhan naturally had to be notified as well. It just so happened that he didn't have many surgeries today, so he could get off work early.

Just as he agreed, Wen Shuyun sent him a message asking if he had time for dinner in the evening.

Compared to blind dates, the two are more like dinner companions. When making a dinner appointment, they usually just state the time and place clearly in one sentence. If the other party is not available, they will directly refuse. Neither of them feels awkward or tired.

Zhou Jingzhan thought for a moment and replied: My friend is proposing to me tonight, are you interested?

Both of Wen Shuyun's parents worked in the system. Although she was an only child, she was strictly controlled since childhood and did not escape Zhejiang until she was a graduate student.

In just a few months, she did a lot of things that her parents thought were dangerous and that girls should not do on their own, such as going to bars alone, skydiving, going to Tibet, and going to Syria.

She didn't have many friends around her, all of whom were good girls in the eyes of their parents, and had never witnessed a marriage proposal, so she agreed readily.
