Chapter 49 Household Registration
The next day, Chu Yunqi seemed depressed. Apart from dealing with a few friends who came to visit him, he stayed in his room for a long time reading his thesis and did not speak during lunch.
Zhang Abao finally noticed it and after dinner he went to find a few vases and placed them on the coffee table. "Professor Chu, I think those flowers are about to wilt. Do you want to put them in a vase?"
Chu Yunqi nodded and started to do it.
In fact, he didn't know how to arrange flowers at all. He just mixed different varieties of flowers together. Abao couldn't stand it anymore and went out for a stroll.
Just as I finished arranging the flowers, Tao Mo came and added another bouquet.
Chu Yunqi was surprised that Tao Mo could come. "Doctor Tao, how come you have time to come here? Aren't you at work?"
"I just heard that you were discharged from the hospital. You just returned to the capital, so I came to see you."
Chu Yunqi didn't want to talk: "Is that so? You said you just returned to the capital. Were you on a business trip?"
Tao Mo smiled calmly and shook his head: "My father died of cancer a week ago, and I just returned to my hometown for the funeral."
Chu Yunqi felt truly distressed for a child in his twenties who had lost his father. "My condolences. If you need anything, just let me know. How is Auntie?"
"Five years ago, my mother died of complications during childbirth when giving birth to my sister." Tao Mo quickly changed the subject. "Let's not talk about that anymore. How are you and Teacher Zhou doing lately? After your accident, I kept hearing some gossip in the department. I can tell that Teacher Zhou treated you very well."
Chu Yunqi felt a pang of sadness in his heart. With his parents dead and his brother not being in the local area, daily life was a big problem. Calculating the time, Tao Mo's sister was old enough to go to elementary school. If he brought her to Beijing, going to school would also be a big problem.
He and Tao Mo were not related in any way and they didn't interact much in normal times. This time he came to visit suddenly and told him all these things and mentioned Zhou Jingzhan. The intuition he had developed in the business world for so many years told Chu Yunqi that Tao Mo came with a purpose.
So he didn't beat around the bush any more: "Zhou Jingzhan is good to everyone. He hasn't given you anything since you broke up. You've encountered difficulties this time, and he should help you. Tell me what you want, and I'll help you convey it."
Tao Mo felt embarrassed that his little thoughts were easily seen through. After a while, he spoke: "My sister will go to school in the future. I plan to bring her to Beijing, and I need to transfer her household registration to Beijing."
As expected, Chu Yunqi continued to ask, "Where's your household registration? How much does it cost?"
"The hospital had already provided me with a household registration when I started working there, and I didn't ask for any money."
At such a young age, he obtained a Beijing residence permit through his own ability. Even though both his parents have passed away, he is not short of money. It seems that his family was well off in the past, Chu Yunqi thought silently.
Having achieved his goal, Tao Mo was afraid of running into Zhou Jingzhan and didn't want to stay any longer.
Sure enough, not long after he left, Zhou Jingzhan arrived. He was still wearing his morning sportswear and holding a candied haws in his hand. He looked much friendlier than usual.
He opened the candied haws package and handed it to Chu Yunqi as soon as he entered the room, explaining, "Zhang Abao said you had a poor appetite, so I bought some on the way." He then added, "You can only eat one."
Chu Yunqi lay on the bed and nibbled on the rock candy bit by bit.
When Zhou Jingzhan saw the flowers he had arranged, he roughly grabbed them and glanced at them, then teased, "People are worth thousands of dollars, but you made them for ten dollars and no one would buy them."
As he spoke, he saw another fresh, untouched bouquet: "Who's coming today?"
Chu Yunqi was eating the candied haws with great concentration. He took a small bite of the hawthorn and it was very sour.
When Zhou Jingzhan asked for the second time, he answered: "Your ex-boyfriend."
Zhou Jingzhan was surprised and puzzled: "Tao Mo? What is he doing here?"
Chu Yunqi said in a cold voice, "My father has passed away, and I only have a younger sister at home. She is going to the capital to go to school. You should quickly register her for her residence."
Zhou Jingzhan didn't know much about Tao Mo's family affairs, so he felt sympathy when he heard about it, but also wondered: "Why didn't he come to see me?"
It seems that Tao Mo really likes Zhou Jingzhan. No one wants to be inferior to their loved one. Chu Yunqi is too lazy to explain this simple truth to him.
When Chu Yunqi was about to touch the second hawthorn, Zhou Jingzhan snatched it away in time, "You have a stomachache, don't you? Eat less."
Chu Yunqi didn't know what was wrong with him. He remembered that his household registration was still in Hebei, so he asked Zhou Jingzhan: "Do you want to help him?"
"Since you've already answered for me, stop asking nonsense questions."
Chu Yunqi lay on his side, looking at Zhou Jingzhan, and whispered, "My household registration is not in Beijing either."
Zhou Jingzhan glanced at him and refused to listen to his words. "I'm not here either."
Chu Yunqi was so angry that he sat up straight: "How can we be the same? Your household registration was transferred back to Jiangsu after you took the college entrance examination. What about me? My father transferred mine to Hebei before I took the college entrance examination."
What he said was true. Chu Shaobo had wanted him to join the army and had gone to great lengths to stop him, including this one, which was to move Chu Yunqi's household registration to Hebei to be with his grandmother.
Chu Yunqi got angry when he talked about this, and he couldn't stop talking about it: "How can there be a father like this? If he didn't force me, I might even get the top prize."
Somehow, Zhou Jingzhan fell silent, arranging the flowers sent by Tao Mo with an expressionless face.
After Chu Yunqi finished complaining again, he said with a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice: "You deserve it."
Chu Yunqi could discuss other matters, but he hated his father completely. Sometimes when he cursed, Zhou Jingzhan would persuade him, but Chu Yunqi felt that he was a traitor.
Upon hearing this, Chu Yun got anxious and got out of bed to accuse him: "What do you mean? I don't deserve it at all. I just don't want to join the army or study medicine. What's wrong with me?"
Chu Yunqi has a bad temper and gets angry easily. They always quarreled during the three years they were together, but that was part of the passion of love. But things were different after they broke up. Every quarrel between them widened the gap between them.
Without waiting for an answer, Chu Yunqi angrily took the flowers from his hand and threw them to the ground, "Explain it to me clearly."
Zhou Jingzhan was not angry either. He just clapped his hands, stood up, and said calmly: "I don't want to argue with you. I'm leaving first."
"Where are you going?"
"go home."
Almost the moment he turned his back, Chu Yunqi's eyes were red. It was not until the sound of the door closing that Chu Yunqi stomped on the floor in dissatisfaction and rubbed his eyes. But his voice was filled with grievance as he muttered to himself, "You are not the only one who has a home. I want to go home too."
After saying that, he really changed his clothes and prepared to go home, and also took the leftover white wine from Zhang Abao with him.
He hailed a taxi on the side of the road, took a big gulp of wine in anger, and told the driver his home address.
His home was not far from the sanatorium, only forty minutes away. It was only half past five when he arrived, but Chu Yunqi was already drunk.
