Chapter 55 Photo Album
Chu Yunqi couldn't help but sigh that Zhou Jingzhan's parents could treasure a broken plate that he made casually for more than ten years, while the trophy he won was not even worthy of being put on the table.
Being so pretentious again, Chu Yunqi cursed himself in his heart, and quickly smiled, blending into the warm atmosphere.
During the meal, Zhou Jingzhan and Zhou Wenxuan drank a little. Considering that Chu Yunqi was not in a position to drive, Qin Huiping suggested, "It's getting late now, and it's not safe to drive after drinking. Why don't you two stay home tonight? Is that okay, Yunqi?"
It was a dream come true, but Chu Yunqi still refused once with dignity. Only when Zhou Wenxuan tried to persuade him again did he relent, "Okay, I'm sorry to bother you and Auntie."
Since they had to stay overnight, there was no need to rush. Chu Yunqi was playing chess with Zhou Wenxuan. Zhou Jingzhan watched for a while but felt it was boring, so he went to bother Qin Huiping.
Qin Huiping was taking care of her skin when Zhou Jingzhan poked his head out from under the door and said coquettishly, "Mom?"
"Well, what's wrong?"
Zhou Jingzhan came into the room carrying a box and sat down next to her. "I have something to ask of you."
Qin Huiping opened the box and found several photo albums. "Aren't these your photos? What's wrong?" She flipped through the albums to admire them.
"There are still many that belong to Chu Yunqi. His parents definitely don't have them. When you have time, please mention it to your aunt and ask her to give the album to them so that they can keep it as a souvenir."
Qin Huiping was both relieved and sad that her son was still kind as always. She complained, "You're so thoughtful. Why don't you think about the photo of you in here? Don't your father and I need a commemoration?"
"There's no solo photo of me, and besides, you must have backups."
"You're such an ungrateful little idiot. You've always been on your brother Yunqi's side since you were little. I'm going to Belgium on a business trip tomorrow. Let's talk when I get back."
The title of brother was too distant, and Zhou Jingzhan felt annoyed when he thought about it. He simply changed the subject and followed Qin Huiping to look through the photo album.
The first one was from twenty-seven years ago, when he and Chu Yunqi first met.
Chu Jun held Zhou Jingzhan, Zhou Qing held Chu Yunqi, and the two took their first photo together in their lives.
The two of them flipped through the three photo albums from beginning to end. There was a very thick book at the bottom. Just as Qin Huiping was about to open it, Zhou Jingzhan stopped her in time, "This is his childhood diary."
Qin Huiping gently put the thing back in its place and asked, "Why is it in your hand?"
"He was going to throw it away with the other books, but I hid it secretly."
Qin Huiping smiled and asked with the answer, "Have you seen it?"
Perhaps because he rarely did such immoral things, Zhou Jingzhan's face turned red, "I..."
Qin Huiping stopped teasing her innocent and silly son. "Okay, I'll make a note of this. I still have work to do tomorrow. I've cleaned up the room. Tell your father and Yunqi to go to bed early."
"Well, good night."
"Goodnight, baby."
When Zhou Jingzhan returned, Chu Yunqi was making his father laugh. Zhou Jingzhan went up and started to pack up the chess pieces without saying a word.
"Hey, what are you doing, kid? You're so unruly." Zhou Wenxuan blamed his son for disturbing his interest.
"It's almost eleven o'clock. You should go to bed early at your age." Then he pointed the finger at Chu Yunqi, "And you, get some rest."
Just after half past eleven, Zhou Jingzhan heard the sound of the handle turning at the door of his room. As expected, it was Chu Yunqi.
"What are you doing in my room?"
Chu Yunqi ignored him and went to Zhou Jingzhan's bed.
Zhou Jingzhan didn't chase him away, he just lay there looking at the ceiling.
After a minute, he suddenly sighed, "There are countless people in the entire capital who want to sleep in your bed. I didn't expect that I could do it so easily today."
Perhaps his words were too blunt, Zhou Jingzhan felt uncomfortable after hearing them. "If you keep saying something so disgusting, get out of here."
Chu Yunqi shut up and stood up to lean against the headboard to look at Zhou Jingzhan's computer. "What are you looking at if you're not sleeping?"
"Thoracoscopic mediastinal tumor resection. Let me take a closer look."
"Isn't this your specialty? It's so late, go to bed early and look at it tomorrow."
Zhou Jingzhan, his eyes never leaving the computer, replied absentmindedly, "No, this surgery can't wait. It's the first one scheduled tomorrow."
Chu Yunqi fell silent, adjusted his posture and prepared to sleep.
Seeing this, Zhou Jingzhan turned off the lights, leaving only the light from the screen in the entire room.
Chu Yunqi didn't know what time Zhou Jingzhan saw. When he felt something pressing on him, he was so sleepy that he couldn't open his eyes, but he knew it was Zhou Jingzhan's arm.
The next day, considering that their elders were present, the two got up earlier than usual.
Chu Yunqi dressed himself in front of the mirror and turned over and over the clothes in Zhou Jingzhan's closet but couldn't find a single piece that suited his taste. Helplessly, he could only find a black shirt from a bunch of dark-colored shirts to wear.
Zhou Jingzhan has a habit of staying in bed too long. He hadn't woken up even after Chu Yunqi finished washing up. He kept dozing off against the headboard, in the same position that Chu Yunqi had pulled him out of bed.
"Stop sleeping and open your eyes." Chu Yunqi walked up and slapped Zhou Jingzhan, waking him up immediately.
Zhou Jingzhan simply fell into the bed and pulled the quilt in dissatisfaction, "Hey, why are you so nervous? There's no one at home."
"Fuck you, aren't your parents at home?"
Zhou Jingzhan replied lazily, "My mom is on a business trip to Belgium, and my dad is in the countryside for an inspection."
Chu Yunqi finally breathed a sigh of relief, "Why don't you have a white shirt?"
Many years ago, Zhou Jingzhan blocked the drinking for him, and on the day when the two confirmed their relationship, Zhou Jingzhan wore a white shirt, so Chu Yunqi always had a filter in his mind and always felt that Zhou Jingzhan looked particularly handsome in white.
Since then, he often bought various styles of white shirts for Zhou Jingzhan. When he thought about it carefully, he had never seen Zhou Jingzhan wearing a white shirt since he returned to China.
Zhou Jingzhan seemed to be stimulated by something. He opened his eyes and stood up, replying lazily, "If you don't want to wear it, don't buy it."
Chu Yunqi didn't pay much attention to this matter. After cleaning up and eating, the two went to the hospital together.
After Zhou Jingzhan finished his first operation, he was immediately called to the office. In addition to Ding Xinye and Chu Yunqi, several directors of the cardiac surgery and obstetrics and gynecology departments were present.
When everyone was gathered, Ding Xinye began to introduce the situation. "Let me briefly explain the situation. The mother was 28 years old and had a natural pregnancy with no previous medical history. At 21 weeks, the fetus was found to have aortic valve stenosis and left ventricular hypoplasia. Currently at 28 weeks, the condition continues to deteriorate. The parents strongly desire to keep the child. Considering the poor prognosis of surgery after birth, they chose to undergo intrauterine interventional surgery at our hospital."
The whole audience was silent.
Ding Xinye continued, "I believe all of you experts are familiar with this surgery. Similar cases worldwide are very limited. The hospital contacted foreign institutions yesterday, but they were unwilling to provide relevant information. Domestic experts are also unable to participate in the surgery for various reasons. Therefore, I hope that someone among you will take on this responsibility. This is not only a matter of great significance for you personally and the hospital, but also for the international medical community."
