Chapter 21. Can you help me?
Throughout the journey, Shang Shu focused on supporting Gu Sui until they returned to the hotel and entered the room, only then realizing that something was amiss.
How did her original presidential suite suddenly become a double suite?
Song Lan, who was standing at the door, touched the tip of her nose with satisfaction and thoughtfully closed the door behind her before leaving.
Gu Sui watched Shang Shu carefully supporting her the whole way, and finally couldn't help but chuckle, "It's not like you're missing an arm or a leg, you don't need to keep supporting me."
"Can't you say something auspicious?" Shang Shu frowned and rolled her eyes at her.
She looked around and roughly examined the layout of the suite. There was a living room between the two bedrooms, so they weren't exactly sleeping in the same room, she tried to convince herself.
"Which room do you want to sleep in?" Shang Shu helped her to the sofa.
"Either is fine," Gu Sui said casually, choosing a seat on the left.
After a busy day without having lunch, Shang Shu was actually quite hungry now that she had some free time. She didn't feel hungry when she was busy, but now that she had some free time, she was actually a little hungry.
Thinking that Gu Sui probably hadn't eaten anything, she asked, "What would you like to eat?"
"Either is fine," Gu Sui repeated.
Shang Shu was speechless: "You don't seem to be picky about anything."
Gu Sui curved her lips into a smile, her voice alluring at the end: "Didn't you already know about this?" Then she patted the seat next to her with her right hand, "Come and sit down."
Shang Shu moved forward two steps and sat down about an arm's length away from Gu Sui. She took out her phone and sent a message to Song Lan.
Gu Sui glanced at the "Pacific Ocean" between the two and couldn't help but want to laugh, but she let the awkwardness pass by and slowly asked, "Has the project been finalized?"
Shang Shu stared at the screen and hummed in agreement. It seemed that everything that needed to be discussed regarding Li Xian's project had been settled. Now, it was just a matter of handing it over to the design department for further development, and she would make the final decision when the design was finalized.
"When do you plan to go back to Macau?" Gu Sui continued to ask, not wanting to disrupt the other person's plans.
Shang Shu paused slightly as she typed, remembering what the doctor had just said, then pursed her lips and said, "Let's do it this weekend."
She wanted to at least stabilize Gu Sui's recovery; she didn't want to put her at any more risk.
Gu Sui frowned, seeing through her intentions. She propped herself up on the sofa with one hand and leaned slightly to the right: "Don't worry about me. The company is more important. I can go back by myself."
She knew how important the company was to Shang Shu, and she didn't want the other person to let her personal matters interfere with other more important things.
Upon hearing this, Shang Shu's mood immediately became gloomy.
So many years have passed, and Gu Sui is still the same. She has long decided what is important and what is not important for herself, as if she doesn't care or want to understand what she really wants.
She tossed her phone aside in frustration: "That was the plan all along, it's none of your business."
"Ah Shu, you're not good at lying." Gu Sui said patiently, running his fingers along the sofa.
Shang Shu let out a soft snort. She stood up, looked at Gu Sui coldly, and said, "Why can you easily risk your life for me, but now you ask me to leave someone who just got ten stitches in their shoulder and was injured because of me aside and go back by myself? Is this what you call important?"
She shook her head and forced a bitter smile: "Gu Sui, can you please consider my feelings?"
After saying that, she walked towards one of the rooms, leaving only her back view and the sound of the door closing heavily.
Looking at the closed door, Gu Sui was slightly stunned. She had never thought about these things before. She only thought about how to protect her and help her go higher and further. This was her way of making amends.
Perhaps, she really didn't think it through.
After returning to her room and calming down, Shang Shu suddenly felt a little regretful. After all, the other person was injured while saving her and had just received stitches. Had she been too harsh in her words?
Just then, the doorbell of the suite rang. Shang Shu quickly stood up from the bench at the back. She couldn't just stay there and let Gu Sui, an injured soldier, get up to open the door.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Gu Suizheng supporting himself with one hand as he prepared to stand up from the sofa. She quickly said, "Let me open it," and then walked towards the door.
Song Lan also stood outside the door, carrying the things Shang Shu had asked for earlier: light vegetarian dishes, medicine, and new clothes for Gu Sui.
"Mr. Shang, your return ticket for tomorrow morning has been refunded. You can let me know as soon as the date is confirmed," Song Lan reported while setting the table.
Shang Shu responded awkwardly, secretly glancing at Gu Sui on the sofa. He must have heard everything. She silently thanked Song Lan eight hundred times in her heart.
Song Lan didn't notice anything amiss and was still quite pleased with her handiwork. She put the things down as quickly as possible and then made her escape just as fast.
Only Shang Shu and Gu Sui remained in the living room. After a moment of silence, Gu Sui finally spoke first.
"What happened just now was due to my lack of consideration, and I apologize to you," she said earnestly, looking into Shang Shu's eyes.
Shang Shu was somewhat surprised. She lowered her eyes slightly and glanced at Gu Sui's blood-stained shirt, finding it jarring no matter how she looked at it. So she picked up a piece of clothing from the side and handed it to her: "Change your clothes first."
Does this count as acceptance?
Gu Sui raised an eyebrow, took the clothes, and slowly asked, "Would you like to help me?"
The other person's voice was as cold and clear as ever, but when these words reached Shang Shu's ears, they stirred her heart and made her swallow hard: "If you need it."
Gu Sui curled her lips but did not answer, but the answer was obvious. She got up and walked towards the room, and gently closed the door after Shang Shu came in.
As the sun set, the room lights were off, and the afterglow shone through the window onto the two people's faces, creating a rather ambiguous atmosphere.
Watching Gu Sui unbutton his shirt one button at a time with one hand, Shang Shu felt the atmosphere was becoming increasingly awkward. She simply turned her head to the side, refusing to look at the beautiful spring scenery that was about to be revealed.
"Don't be shy, haven't you seen everything you need to see?" Gu Sui leaned forward slightly, her voice alluring.
This person did it on purpose.
Shang Shu's face flushed bright red in an instant: "Who...who's shy? It's not like I'm the one taking my clothes off, what's there to be shy about?" She stammered out a long string of words.
Looking at her adorable appearance, Gu Sui couldn't help but chuckle: "Help me take off my sleeve."
Taking the opportunity, Shang Shu moved behind the person and carefully took off her shirt. The moment the fabric was removed, she saw large patches of bruises near the wound on Gu Sui's flawless white back.
Shang Shu couldn't help but gasp. That steel frame was so heavy; how much pain she must be in...
Feeling the warm breath spraying on her back, Gu Sui gently turned her head, the scent making her heart itch.
However, just a few seconds later, cool fingertips gently caressed her skin, causing her to shiver.
“A-Shu…” Gu Sui’s voice trembled and became urgent at the end.
She turned around and touched forehead to forehead with him. The two were so close that they were almost touching noses. Her breath was ragged, and she desperately suppressed the urge to kiss him.
"Gu Sui, are you in pain..." Shang Shu asked, her eyes red, still managing to utter that question she knew was foolish.
Gu Sui closed her eyes, unable to bear looking into those clear eyes any longer. She took a step back imperceptibly, steadying her breathing: "Just a little bit."
"You're lying." Shang Shu scolded playfully, subconsciously raising her hand to lightly punch Gu Sui, grazing below his wound.
"Ouch..." Gu Sui winced slightly, saying somewhat deliberately, "A-Shu, it hurts..."
While regretting her carelessness, Shang Shu hurriedly apologized.
"Alright, I was just teasing you." Gu Sui quickly comforted him when he saw that the other person was about to cry again.
Shang Shu bit her lower lip and glared at her, only then realizing that the other woman was only wearing underwear.
Shang Shu already knew that Gu Sui had a great figure and could have everything he wanted, but after so many years, she still couldn't quite handle the sight of him again.
She hastily grabbed a new dress from the side and tried to put it on the person.
Gu Sui let the other person fiddle with it until it was time to button it up. Only then did she call out to the person who was trying to run away: "It hurts to raise my arm. Help me button it up."
This time she really wasn't lying; she could unbutton things with one hand, but buttoning them up was a real challenge for her.
Shang Shu had no choice but to blush and return to the other person to help them button up their clothes.
After a long while, the two finally sat down at the table for dinner. Gu Sui looked at the table full of light vegetarian dishes and knew that this was another result of Shang Shu accommodating her. She said indifferently, "Is this all you're going to eat?"
Shang Shu sat down next to her and handed her a pair of chopsticks: "Can't I lose weight? Look, green is so healthy."
Upon hearing the word "weight loss," Gu Sui frowned. Shang Shu probably weighed less than 100 pounds now.
Seeing the other person's serious expression, and fearing that he might actually get angry, Shang Shu picked up a piece of green vegetable and put it into Gu Sui's bowl, compromising, "Alright, I'll eat more tomorrow."
Upon hearing her words, Gu Sui's expression softened slightly, and he picked up his chopsticks and began to eat slowly.
“I ran into Lu Shengxi the day before yesterday.” Shang Shu took a few bites and, unusually, started the conversation. She glanced at Gu Sui’s reaction and continued, “And his girlfriend Jasmine.”
Gu Sui was slightly taken aback upon hearing this, seemingly not expecting Shang Shu to bring up personnel matters in Aicheng. She nodded and asked, "What did you talk about?"
Shang Shu put down her chopsticks and said calmly, "She's planning to propose to Jasmine, and also..."
At the graduation ceremony, Shang Shu ultimately couldn't bring herself to ask the question.
"Anything else?" Gu Sui also put down his chopsticks, quietly gazing at Shang Shu's face, waiting for her to continue.
"It's nothing, just chatting." After saying that, Shang Shu picked up her water glass and took a sip, looking a little awkward.
Gu Sui's gaze darkened. He didn't press further, but responded to Shang Shu's mention of the marriage proposal by saying, "It's a good thing that you've found the right person."
"Hmm." Shang Shu pursed her lips and put the cup aside.
Are they suitable people? That's a broad definition, but she knew that in Gu Sui's heart, they certainly didn't qualify.
She desperately wanted to find a hint of melancholy or resentment in her expression. Did that mean she also felt regret for their relationship that ended without a trace?
Unfortunately, she gained nothing.
"I'm done eating." Shang Shu got up and pulled out a chair, looking somewhat dejected.
"Lan just brought some waterproof bandages, remember to use them when you shower, and don't let the wound get wet. There are also painkillers, remember to take them if it hurts. Be careful not to put on it when you sleep. I'm going in now." She told her everything she could think of, and then walked towards her room.
"A-Shu," Gu Sui called out to her.
Shang Shu stopped walking, but did not turn around.
"good evening."
