Chapter 42 Gu Sui, are you jealous?
"What do you mean you can't contact them?" Gu Sui suddenly stood up from the sofa. She had only been back at the waterfront for a short time when she received a call from Song Lanye.
Hall B was noisy, and Song Lan, with one ear covered, spoke quite loudly: "President Shang's phone is off, and no one in the venue knows where she is right now."
After dealing with the unidentified accounts in the morning, Song Lan rushed to the museum to find Shang Shu with the results. However, Shang Shu had always come alone before, so she didn't know the location and had to call Shang Shu instead.
But to her surprise, several calls went unanswered. She thought maybe the person was busy and missed the call, so she waited a while longer. But when she called again, the phone was switched off.
She first went to the museum's information desk to ask, but with so many brands coming and going to set up their exhibits, the receptionist couldn't give her a general idea.
In desperation, she had no choice but to call Gu Sui, thinking that he might know something about Shang Shu.
"I'm coming right away." Gu Sui was extremely anxious and got into the car without even putting on his coat.
How come we can't contact the person who was just delivered?
She floored the accelerator, and the sports car sped along the road, returning to the museum entrance in just ten minutes.
"How did it go?" She had just slammed the car door shut when she bumped into Song Lanye, who was making a phone call to the main exhibition hall from the entrance.
Song Lan also hung up the phone, frowned and shook her head: "The main exhibition hall said they didn't see President Shang go there."
Gu Sui stood with one hand on his hip and the other on his forehead, as if he had just remembered something: "That curator, her junior, do you have her contact information?"
Song Lan shook her head again, still dialing Shang Shu's phone repeatedly.
"Check the surveillance footage." Gu Sui didn't want to wait any longer, and as soon as he finished speaking, he walked towards the museum.
Along the way, she thought of all sorts of bad possibilities, her heart pounding like oil.
Seeing that the man looked like he was going to turn the museum upside down, Song Lan quickly followed. Usually, if outsiders wanted to see the surveillance footage, they would probably have to call the police after the person had been missing for a long enough time. But this man in front of her had connections everywhere, so perhaps a single phone call could solve the problem, which would be faster.
Just as the two walked through the gate, Song Lan finally received a call from Shang Shu.
"President Shang!" Song Lan's call successfully stopped Gu Sui in his tracks. "Okay, I understand."
Gu Sui suppressed the urge to snatch the phone, his brows furrowed as he awaited Song Lanye's answer.
"President Shang was trapped in the demonstration room where the access control was malfunctioning, and there was no cell phone signal. They're coming over now," Song Lan said quickly in one breath.
Gu Sui took two deep breaths before nodding with his arms crossed.
Seeing Shang Shu and Ji Songning come out, Gu Sui hurriedly went to greet them. She resisted the urge to hug them because she knew the young girl was shy.
"Why are you here?" Shang Shu asked instinctively when she saw Gu Sui. She glanced at Song Lan Ye beside her and then at the pale face of the man in front of her. She guessed that the two of them must have been very worried.
Gu Sui frowned and glanced at Ji Songning, then reached out and pulled Shang Shu away from him, and the two went to the side not far away.
She then pulled Shang Shu aside and asked in a trembling voice, "Why are your hands so cold? Are you hurt?"
Shang Shu bit her lip: "It's nothing, it's just that I was a little cold inside after staying there for a while, making you come all the way here again."
"Ah Shu." Smelling the perfume scent of Ji Songning on the little girl, Gu Sui said somewhat seriously, "Don't worry about that. Why is your phone off?"
"Huh?" Shang Shu was a little confused, but then she guessed what was going on. "Oh, there was no signal in the demonstration room just now, it was probably too bad, so I just said I turned off my phone."
Seeing that the man's face was still very pale, she took the initiative to touch Gu Sui's fingers and tilted her head to look into his eyes: "Don't worry, this is Macau, in broad daylight, how could I really get lost?"
Gu Sui raised his eyes and glanced at Ji Songning not far away, then snorted coldly, "It's hard to say."
Shang Shu sensed the hostility, but couldn't quite put her finger on why. After all, in her eyes, she and Ji Songning were just current business partners who had never really known each other before.
More importantly, she had never actually seen Gu Sui jealous.
"Alright, wait here for me." Shang Shu comforted the person, making it seem as if the other person, rather than her, had just experienced a "catastrophe".
After saying that, Shang Shu walked towards Ji Songning, feeling a little embarrassed for leaving him standing there for so long: "Sonia, I still want to thank you no matter what. We didn't get to eat today, but I'll treat you another day."
"Okay." Ji Songning pursed her lips shyly. "Then I'll go in first, senior."
Shang Shu hummed in agreement, watching Ji Songning walk away. Then, instead of returning directly to Gu Sui's side, she whispered to Song Lan, "Tell me the result first. We'll discuss the details when I get back to the company."
Song Lan nodded and gently moved her lips: "It's the Chen family from Jia Hua Media."
Shang Shu was extremely surprised by this result. She had guessed that it would be Feng Yuan's own account, or even that it was a relative from her maternal family, but she never expected it to be the Chen family, who were engaged to Shang Zhiyi.
Her mind raced, and she managed to maintain a calm demeanor amidst the shock: "Okay, I understand."
She tugged at her collar, adjusted her expression, and came to Gu Sui's side: "Let's go home."
Upon hearing the little girl call out "home," Gu Sui couldn't help but take her soft hand and squeeze it gently, his earlier displeasure vanishing.
Once in the car, Shang Shu looked around and, not seeing Gu Sui's coat in the back seat, asked, "You came out wearing this?"
"Hmm, you were in a hurry." Gu Sui turned over, fastened the seatbelt for her, and then lingered, placing one hand on Shang Shu's side, resting his chin on her shoulder, and half-embracing her.
Shang Shu's eyes widened, her heart racing from the sudden embrace. Smelling the pleasant scent of white moss, she raised her chin slightly and said, "Gu Sui... I can't breathe."
The weight on his body eased, and Gu Sui lowered his eyes and murmured, "I was really worried just now."
"I know." Shang Shu turned her head slightly towards the other person, feeling the warm breath on her neck, and she couldn't help but flinch away sensitively. "It's alright now."
Gu Sui took a deep breath, reluctantly straightened her body, and reached out to turn up the temperature of the heater, as the two of them probably needed it now.
Just as Shang Shu was about to say something, she couldn't help but sneeze when a slight breeze from the air vent brushed against the tip of her nose.
She looked at Gu Sui with a guilty conscience, unable to bring herself to scold him for dressing too scantily, unsure who should be blamed.
Seeing Gu Sui's complicated expression, Shang Shu touched the tip of her nose: "No...it's nothing, let's go."
Gu Sui didn't say anything more, but upon returning to the water's edge, he instructed the steward to prepare a drink to ward off the cold.
"I don't eat ginger..." Shang Shu looked at the ginger soup in the large bowl in front of her, on the verge of tears, "I'll throw up."
Gu Sui calmly picked up the spoon and took a sip: "I know." Then he raised his chin, "That red date and longan tea is yours."
Shang Shu opened her mouth, about to ask why Gu Sui wouldn't drink this with her, but then she remembered that he didn't seem to like eating red dates, so she closed her mouth again, obediently took another bowl, and stirred it with a spoon.
Shang Shu's phone vibrated twice. She put down her things to check it and saw that it was a message from Ji Songning. She subconsciously looked up at Gu Sui, but he didn't seem to be paying attention.
She always felt that Gu Sui was jealous of Ji Songning, but since Gu Sui hadn't said it directly, she didn't know how to explain it.
She picked up her phone and glanced at it. She saw a message from Ji Songning: "Senior, are you home yet?"
She simply nodded in response.
The other party quickly replied: 【That's good, senior, get some rest.】
Shang Shu paused, feeling it was impolite to keep using emojis, so she typed a reply: 【Okay, you too.】
A soft clatter of a bowl hitting the table reached my ears, followed by a faint voice: "Is she the other person you were talking about?"
?
Shang Shu looked up in confusion and saw the person staring at her expressionlessly. Only then did she realize that this person was talking about the question she had asked yesterday.
What and what?
Is Gu Sui really... jealous?
This was the first time Shang Shu had seen someone like this, and she found it interesting. It turned out that even a composed and aloof woman of high status could have this side to her.
She blinked, tossed her phone aside, and crossed her arms: "Gu Sui, are you jealous?"
"Isn't it obvious enough?" Gu Sui asked lazily, giving an answer that was even more direct than a direct one. She tossed the spoon into the bowl and turned it around.
Shang Shu chuckled lightly, secretly thinking to herself that this was really unlike Gu Sui's style.
She teased, "Does Dr. Gu lack confidence?"
Gu Sui didn't reply, only lowered her eyes and crossed her legs. The little girl had the nerve to laugh at her for lacking confidence, and she didn't know who was delaying in responding to her confession.
Shang Shu then realized that Gu Sui's jealousy probably stemmed from his ignorance of Ji Songning's past.
In her opinion, Ji Songning seemed to have done nothing out of line except for being sweet-talking; at most, she was just a junior who was grateful to her.
"When we were in school, I helped her with a little something, that's all." She explained patiently while observing Gu Sui's expression.
Gu Sui pursed her lips and didn't say anything more, after all, she was never worried about Shang Shu.
"Do we need to go there again?" she asked, turning her attention to the itinerary.
Shang Shu rested her head on her hand and thought for a moment. With the official date getting closer, all that was left was to keep an eye on the jewelry shipment two days before the opening. It seemed that everything that needed to be done was almost done. She shook her head: "I'll just do one last check the day before the official opening."
Gu Sui's brows relaxed slightly; that sounded more like it.
She sighed, "Let's get some rest today. We'll see the doctor tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Shang Shu's lips curved slightly downwards: "How come you're even more enthusiastic than me?"
She was actually a little nervous. Although she felt good, she wasn't sure what kind of treatment plan Liang Wanzhi would offer.
Gu Sui rubbed his leg: "Of course."
Of course, she hoped that Shang Shu would recover quickly and not have to endure such pain anymore.
"What if..." Shang Shu stopped halfway through her sentence and started talking about something else, "Actually... I haven't been like that much lately."
She hasn't been woken up by nightmares for a long time, and apart from occasional insomnia, she doesn't seem to have any other symptoms.
"Yes, that's good." Gu Sui smiled in affirmation, then continued to comfort her softly, "It's alright, don't be afraid."
Shang Shu composed herself and nodded in response.
