Chapter 70 is solved, throw it down.
At 10 p.m., Gu Sui received a call from the secretary's office.
She turned off her phone's vibration, gently removed her arm, which had been resting on Shang Shu's head, and slowly laid the girl's head flat on the pillow beside her. Seeing the little girl frown and whimper a few times, she patted her gently a few more times. Watching the girl's brows relax and she fall asleep peacefully, she got up and went downstairs.
Only one wall lamp was lit in the living room. Gu Sui sat cross-legged in the dim shadows and dialed the phone back.
"Second Miss." As usual, the secretary answered quickly and greeted Gu Sui respectfully.
"Hmm, go ahead and say it." Gu Sui lowered his voice, gently stroking the sofa with his fingertips.
The Gu family is always quick to investigate people, especially since this was a blatant crime. With the help of surveillance cameras, it was already considered slow that it took them half a day to locate this person.
"The man has been found." The person on the other end of the phone began to report the man's information in great detail.
"Get to the point." After listening for a while, Gu Sui rubbed his temples in annoyance.
The other person reacted quickly, pausing only for a second or two before continuing, "He's from the Chen family. Do you want to see him in person?"
"See him," Gu Sui glanced at the time, then drew a line on the sofa with his fingertip: "Tonight. Bring him to me in fifteen minutes—"
Gu Sui paused, thought about the little girl still sleeping upstairs, took a few breaths to calm his anger, and gave up on the waterfront option.
“Huanpu Wharf,” she said in a deep voice.
After hanging up the phone, Gu Sui went to the second bedroom to change his clothes, tied his hair up, and then went to the garage. After thinking for a moment, he chose a G-Class, stepped on the gas, and drove to the dock.
Huanpu Wharf is one of the Gu family's private wharves, with hundreds of berths used year-round for berthing and maintaining ships. Except for occasional dispatching of ships from here, the wharves are usually managed by specialists. At this time of day, there are hardly any people coming.
The pontoon bridge extends neatly into the sea, swaying and rocking with each wave. The light emitted by the brass lampposts reflects off the surface of the boats and cools down. When the tide recedes, the reefs and piles are exposed, and the anchor chains clang with a harsh metallic sound.
Five or six people from the secretary's office had been waiting there with the man in tow. When Gu Sui's car arrived, the woman in the lead quickly went to greet it.
Gu Sui turned off the engine and got out of the car. He glanced at the man who was restrained on the stone platform not far away, tossed the keys to the person next to him, and gestured with his chin toward the spacious stone platform: "I'll drive over there in a bit."
"Okay." The woman understood immediately. The secretaries were always well-trained and didn't say another word.
Gu Sui's expression darkened, and he was about to walk towards the man when he was stopped by another female voice behind him.
"Ah Sui!"
She turned around and saw Gu Qi stagger and hurriedly get out of the car, which hadn't even come to a complete stop.
"Ah Sui, what are you doing?" Gu Qi quickly came to Gu Sui's side and blocked his way.
Looking at her sister's frosty face, and then at the G-Wagon that had been driven onto the stone slab, even though she had seen many grand scenes, she couldn't help but be startled.
She learned by chance from the secretary's office that Gu Sui was investigating someone, and she felt something was wrong. Gu Sui almost never contacted the secretary's office on her own initiative, let alone used the Gu family's resources to find someone. If she hadn't been careful and had someone report to her after finding out, she probably wouldn't have made it tonight.
Gu Sui gritted his teeth and didn't answer, wanting to bypass Gu Qi and continue forward.
Gu Qi grabbed her wrist, keeping her rooted to the spot: "Gu Sui, you need to calm down, don't act impulsively."
She knew that Shang Shu was Gu Sui's life, and now that something like this had happened, Gu Sui was naturally unwilling to let it go. She didn't know what her usually tolerant younger sister would be like when she was really angry, otherwise she wouldn't have made this trip in the middle of the night.
“Acting impulsively,” Gu Sui chuckled sarcastically. “Yes, I’m going to act impulsively. A-Shu was in the hospital this afternoon, and she almost had a serious accident. How can you expect me to stay calm?”
With red eyes, Gu Sui suddenly raised her voice, her chest heaving violently. When she closed her eyes, all she could see in her mind was Shang Shu's purplish-red wound and the sweat on her forehead.
She remembered Shang Shu's panicked state when she woke up, which she tried to hide so as not to worry her; she remembered the little girl telling her in a soft voice that everything was alright, but her hands were still cold and hard to warm up; and her heartbeat that wouldn't calm down for a long time.
The man was held by the arms of two men on either side and stood in the center of the stone platform. His hands and feet were tightly bound, and his eyes were blindfolded. Without the employer's orders, no matter how much he shouted before, the people in the secretary's office did not say a word to him, but simply gagged him. Now that he saw the newcomers, he began to struggle again.
Gu Sui pried Gu Qi's hand away and walked toward the man. Her boots creaked with each step on the stone slab. She gestured to the secretary's office to remove the objects from the man's eyes and mouth.
"Let me go! Who are you? What right do you have to kidnap me? You, you're breaking the law!" The man shouted as soon as he finished speaking, turning his head blankly left and right, trying to figure out where he was.
Upon hearing the word "illegal," Gu Sui chuckled, as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world.
Gu Qi felt a chill run down his spine, fearing that Gu Sui might act impulsively at any moment, so he spoke first to the man: "Shut up if you want to live."
Seeing that there were two women in front of him, the man's eyes showed a hint of contempt. He obviously didn't take the words seriously and even began to look them up and down without restraint.
Gu Sui narrowed his eyes, not seeming annoyed, and simply leaned against the hood of the G-Wagon, gently kicking a pebble on the ground.
"Who told you to do this?" The voice was low and cold, revealing no emotion.
"What are you doing? I don't understand," the man knew perfectly well what was going on, but he feigned ignorance and provocation. "When you want to ask someone a question, this is the attitude you get—"
Before the man could finish speaking, Gu Sui kicked him in the knee. The kick, delivered with force while bracing the front of the car, caused the man to lose his balance and fall to the ground unexpectedly. The two secretaries beside him tactfully pulled the man up and helped him steady himself, making him kneel on the ground to speak to his employer.
"I'll ask you one more time, who told you to do this?" Gu Sui repeated, his voice even colder than before.
Seeing that the woman in front of him was not someone to be trifled with, the man became a little more subdued than before, but he still stubbornly insisted: "I do things for money, I only care about money, not people."
"Is that so?" Gu Sui snorted coldly. Seeing that the man wouldn't shed a tear until he saw the coffin, he knocked on the hood, walked around to the driver's side, opened the door, and got in the car.
"Ah Sui," Gu Qi followed and held the car door, his face full of worry, and whispered, "Think of Ah Shu, don't do anything foolish."
That was the first time in her life she had ever seen Gu Sui fight someone, and seeing the man's reckless attitude, she was really afraid that someone would die.
"I know what I'm doing," Gu Sui replied in a deep voice, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
Hearing the assurance, Gu Qi felt relieved and stepped back, telling everyone in the secretary's office to retreat and cooperate with Gu Sui.
"What...what are you going to do?" The man saw people backing away and then saw Gu Sui starting to reverse the car. He knelt on the spot, trembling slightly.
The high beams suddenly blazed on, blinding the man. The G-Wagon roared furiously, its valves fully engaged. The man panicked, unable to stand, and collapsed to the ground. His hands and feet were bound, and he could only scream "Murder!" as he struggled to move his body on the ground.
"I'll talk, I'll talk, please spare me!" the man began to beg for mercy.
Gu Qi knew that these people were just pretending to flatter him and were using their tricks to go back on their word, so he didn't rush to make Gu Sui stop. The roaring sound grew closer and closer, and finally stopped in front of the man with a man's miserable scream, sending up bits of gravel flying.
"She is the mother of my young mistress. It was the Shang family who told me to do this!" The man confessed in fear. "She only told me to follow along and teach that woman a lesson. I... I don't even know who she is. I was just following orders from my master. Please, please spare me."
"Anything else?" Gu Sui got out of the car, and the car door slammed shut. The fact that the secretary's office caught the person near Yijing Bay meant that Feng Yuan had no intention of letting the matter rest after arranging this.
"Think it over before you speak. This is your last chance." Gu Sui glanced at the dark sea not far away.
"Mrs. Shang instructed me to keep a close eye on her and report to her everything, including where she had been and who she had met. If there was an opportunity, I could, I could..." The man didn't dare finish his sentence. He fell to the ground and couldn't get up. He could only try to look up at people. "I, I just got to her doorstep. I haven't had time to do anything yet. That's all. There really is nothing else. I swear!"
Gu Sui felt nauseous at the filthy thought and couldn't help but kick the man hard in the face, drawing blood immediately. Feeling relieved, she lifted her leg and walked towards the pontoon bridge.
"Untie him, throw him down." Gu Sui pointed to the man's hands and feet, speaking in a steady voice, as if he were talking about a piece of trash.
The people in the secretariat acted swiftly and efficiently, giving the man little time to react. The seawater was icy cold in the winter night. The man thrashed about a couple of times, shivering, and clung tightly to the foundation pile.
Gu Sui watched coldly, feeling that this was far from enough to make up for the little girl's pain.
"Keep an eye on him. Fish him out in half an hour and take him to the Chen family's old residence. Tell them that their young master offended the Gu family. We already warned him once last time, and he should understand the principle of 'no more than three times.' If the Chen family wants to continue to stay in Macau, they'd better give this matter a reasonable explanation."
She didn't care whether this was Feng Yuan's own idea or not; she only knew that she could use the Chen family's people. Whether the Chen family knew about it or not, since they chose to condone this "ally," they had to pay the price.
After sending Gu Qi back to the car, Gu Sui leaned against the car door and said calmly, "I will make the previous scandals of the Chen Family Hotel appear in the news. If it's inconvenient to use the light mirror, I can find someone myself."
After all, once she made a move, the Gu and Chen families would be completely at odds, so she felt it was necessary to inform Gu Qi in advance.
Gu Qi glanced at the person and took out his phone: "What are you saying? A-Shu is family just like you. You don't need to worry about this. I'll handle it. You should go back quickly. It's so late, don't make A-Shu worry."
"Okay." Gu Sui pursed her lips. "Thank you, sister."
"They're gone."
Back at the water's edge, Gu Sui changed her shoes while asking the housekeeper if Shang Shu had woken up. After receiving a negative answer, she instructed the housekeeper to throw away the shoes, as the soles were stained with the man's blood, which disgusted her.
She went upstairs to the master bedroom and saw the little girl sleeping peacefully. Only then did she feel relieved and went to the guest bedroom to change clothes and take a shower.
