The Ye family.
Ye Rouxin glanced at Ye Xinning several times, only to see her holding an orange in her hand, lost in thought. The orange had been in her hand for about an hour, but she hadn't peeled it or eaten it.
"Ningning, what are you thinking about? If you keep squeezing that orange in your hand, it's going to get crushed."
Ye Xinning turned around when she heard the voice and looked at Ye Rouxin, "Ah, Mom, what did you say?"
She clearly wasn't listening. Ye Rouxin sighed, "Is something on your mind?"
"No."
"Stop saying one thing and meaning another. Ever since you came over after get off work this afternoon, you've been distracted."
"..." Ye Xinning didn't know what to say for a moment, so she simply remained silent.
Seeing her like this, Ye Rouxin's gaze fell on the bracelet on her hand. "Didn't I see you weren't wearing this bracelet a while ago? Why are you wearing it again recently?"
Ye Xinning lowered her head, her gaze falling on the bracelet on her wrist. Why was she wearing it again?
Ye Xinning thought back to the day she and Shen Lin parted ways at the hospital and returned home. She sat quietly on the sofa for several hours, holding the bracelet.
She hesitated for a while, putting it down and then picking it up again, going back and forth like this many times, before finally deciding to put the bracelet on her wrist.
Although she didn't know what she was thinking at that moment, whatever the reason, she chose to follow her heart.
She didn't want to give up that bracelet.
"It's probably because I can't seem to break my old habits," she said after a moment's hesitation, half-jokingly and half-seriously.
Ye Rouxin had no idea what the bracelet meant to her. When she heard what she said, she just nodded and didn't say anything more.
"I saw the news about the plane Shen Lin was on that day. Is he alright?"
"It's nothing, thankfully it's just a minor injury to my waist. I'll be fine after some rest."
"So, you went to see him?"
Ye Xinning, "..."
Seeing her silence, Ye Rouxin smiled and said, "There's nothing to hide. If you went to see it, you went to see it. It's not a big deal."
Ye Xinning pursed her lips, and finally spoke, "Mom, what were you thinking when you divorced Dad?"
Ye Rouxin was taken aback for a moment, then looked away. "Why did we suddenly start talking about this?"
"I just wanted to see if your feelings at that time were the same as mine when Shen Lin and I divorced."
“My situation with your father is different from your situation with Shen Lin. I decided to divorce your father because all we had left was arguing. At that time, I would get angry whenever I saw him, and we simply couldn’t get along.”
"Did Mom regret the divorce?"
When asked this question, Ye Rouxin lowered her head, her voice slow and deliberate, as if she didn't care about anything anymore.
"It doesn't matter anymore."
Ye Xinning gazed at Ye Rouxin's profile. Ye Rouxin spoke again, "Ningning, no matter what we do, I hope you are happy and that you won't regret this decision in the future."
Between a mother and daughter, there are some things that don't need to be said aloud, and Ye Xinning understood what that meant.
Thank you, Mom. I understand.
Ye Rouxin looked at her with doting eyes, "You silly child, why are you thanking me? I'm your mother."
"Too."
"Alright, let's go back inside and eat."
Ye Rouxin got up, and Ye Xinning followed. They hadn't walked more than a few steps when Ye Xinning's phone suddenly rang.
She took it out and glanced at it; it was Shen Nanxing.
Ye Xinning was somewhat surprised and taken aback when someone she hadn't contacted in a long time suddenly called.
"Mom, you go in first, I'll take this call."
"Okay, I'll come in after I finish this call."
"Um."
After Ye Rouxin left, Ye Xinning answered the phone, and Shen Nanxing's voice came through very quickly.
"Sister Ningning."
Ye Xinning hummed in agreement. "Nanxing, is there something you need that's causing you to call me all of a sudden?"
"It's nothing important, I just started dating a boyfriend, Ningning, why don't you come over and meet him?"
Ye Xinning was surprised to hear that Shen Nanxing had a boyfriend.
"What? You have a boyfriend?"
“Yes.” Shen Nanxing could hear the surprise in Ye Xinning’s voice. “What, Sister Ningning, do you think I should keep waiting for Chi Zhao?”
Ye Xinning smiled awkwardly, "It's not that I thought you would wait for her forever, it's just a bit of a surprise."
After all, Shen Nanxing's affection for Chi Zhao wasn't something that happened overnight; it had been going on for many years.
"I used to think that persistence would lead to a good result, but I later realized that some things are destined. If you can't change something, don't dwell on it. People just have to keep moving forward."
Ye Xinning held the phone, and Shen Nanxing chuckled on the other end, "So, Sister Ningning, you really have to come over. I'll send you the location right now."
"Okay, I'll be right there."
Since Shen Nanxing had already put it that way, Ye Xinning naturally agreed without hesitation.
After hanging up the phone with Shen Nanxing, Ye Xinning returned to the Ye family classroom. Huo Yanzhi and Huo Qijun also returned. Huo Qijun looked at her with a big smile on his face, "Ningning is here, come and sit here."
Ye Xinning didn't look at Huo Qijun; her gaze swept past Huo Yanzhi and finally settled on Ye Rouxin.
"Mom, Nanxing has arranged a gathering for me, so I won't be staying for dinner tonight. I'll come see you another day."
Although Ye Rouxin hoped that Ye Xinning would stay for dinner, she also knew about Ye Xinning's relationship with Shen Nanxing.
"Okay, go ahead."

Ye Xinning arrived at her destination according to the location sent by Shen Nanxing. She pushed open the door of the private room and walked in, but the scene that came into view stunned her.
Shen Nanxing sat facing the door, next to a gentle and refined man. In the private room, besides Shen Nanxing and that man, there were also Shen Lin, Chi Zhao, and Shen Ting.
Ye Xinning, "..."
So, what a chaotic scene this is.
She stood there, unsure whether to marvel at Chi Zhao's magnanimity in appearing there, or to marvel at how she had seen Shen Lin again after only a day apart at the hospital.
"Sister Ningning is here, come and sit down." Shen Nanxing said, warmly inviting her to sit down.
But Ye Xinning saw that she had that strange man on one side and Chi Zhao on the other, so there was no place for her.
Just as she was hesitating about where to sit, Shen Lin reached out and pulled her to sit down next to him without saying a word.
Ye Xinning, "..."
"Everyone's here, so let me introduce them." Shen Nanxing started speaking, and Ye Xinning's attention was drawn to him. She even forgot to shake off Shen Lin's hand.
"My boyfriend, Zhou Jiamu."
