Chapter 1 Second Wedding Anniversary

On Anning and Leiting's second wedding anniversary, Anning happily held Leiting's hand, intending to cut the sweet cake for the guests. Unexpectedly, Leiting pushed over the cake cart, ripped off the kingfisher feather hairpin from Anning's head, and ran out without looking back, leaving the guests in the courtyard bewildered and Anning looking gloomy on the stage.

Anning couldn't believe that Leiting, who once pursued her with roses that filled half the city, had turned out like this.

Anning comes from a very wealthy family. Her parents caught many opportunities when they were young, and their company went public overseas. As a result, she and her younger brother Anyang studied abroad from a young age and were surrounded by socialites and elites. Anning was ambitious and was admitted to New York University early on. It was here that Anning met Leiting.

Lei Ting is handsome and tall. He usually wears a youth Zhongshan suit. When Lei Ting smiles, his jawline moves up his long neck, giving people a feeling of full sex appeal. Lei Ting came to New York to study and will eventually go back to inherit the family business. Therefore, Lei Ting usually rejects his suitors. How did two people who originally had no connection get together?

Anning is about to graduate from New York University. She is doing well in her studies and likes to bake in her spare time. She likes to share her homemade pastries with her classmates. Anning has a friend named Liao Qian who loves bread. He is known as a detective. His classmates call him a charlatan, and believers call him God Liao. Liao Qian is Lei Ting's fellow townsman and best friend. The two of them came to New York University together.

Liao Qian, who usually enjoys using a compass, offered to calculate An Ning's marriage prospects after learning her birth date and time. To his surprise, her birth date coincided perfectly with Lei Ting's. Liao Qian, feigning expertise, declared An Ning and Lei Ting a perfect match and insisted on arranging a meeting between them. The two met through Liao Qian's introduction. At first glance, Lei Ting didn't like An Ning, and An Ning wasn't interested in Lei Ting either. They exchanged contact information but had no further contact. Just as they were about to part ways, Lei Ting received a call from his family. Lei Ting's grandmother, who was Liao Qian's mentor, had been calculating things at home that day and discovered Lei Ting was facing a minor calamity that could only be averted by his quick marriage. This led to a series of events... The next time Liao Qian called to urge Lei Ting, Lei Ting got annoyed and casually handed the phone to Liao Qian. Liao Qian then talked to Lei Ting's grandmother, and naturally, Liao Qian revealed An Ning to her. Upon learning that An Ning and Lei Ting were a perfect match, the grandmother insisted that Lei Ting win An Ning's heart, return to China, and get married, even threatening suicide. Just then, news came that Lei Ting's ex-girlfriend in China had married someone from another country. Lei Ting was extremely frustrated and had no choice but to agree to pursue An Ning. He frequently called An Ning and asked her out for meals. An Ning took relationships very seriously and was hesitant to accept Lei Ting's advances. However, with Liao Qian's advice and scheming, An Ning quickly agreed to date Lei Ting.

During the rest of their university years, the two spent time together day after day. Lei Ting gradually got used to having An Ning by his side, and An Ning's family was also very satisfied with Lei Ting. The two held a wedding ceremony abroad. On that day, An Ning wore a white dress and walked into the marriage with Lei Ting's hand.

After their marriage, the couple returned to China to register their marriage. Lei Ting's family adored An Ning as their daughter-in-law. Not only did her grandmother give her a lot of jewelry, but Lei Ting's mother also bought them a large house to live in. Lei Ting's family was very traditional; even their housekeeper wore Tang suits and addressed each other as master and servant. Lei Ting's parents wore Tang suits and Hanfu every day, and An Ning gradually developed a liking for wearing cheongsams under their influence.

During the two years after returning to China, An Ning held a nominal position at the Lei family's company. Most of the time, she stayed at home taking care of Lei Ting's every need. The two lived a respectful life together for two years. Unexpectedly, today was their second wedding anniversary. Lei Ting changed his usual behavior and came to the event wearing a suit and leather shoes. The ceremony held by the Lei family was very grand, and they invited a very famous Chinese etiquette host to preside over the event. Unexpectedly, Lei Ting's suit ruined the event.

When Lei Ting's father, Lei Zhenyu, saw Lei Ting in a suit, his face fell. It was only after Lei Ting's mother, Yu Li, intervened and persuaded him that the ceremony could proceed. An Ning, with her hair styled up and wearing an expensive cheongsam, her hairpin a family heirloom from her grandmother—an antique piece with kingfisher feather inlay, worth a considerable sum—waited calmly on the stage for Lei Ting's arrival. However, Lei Ting wore a suit drastically different from his usual attire, his expression was not as gentle as usual, and he seemed perfunctory in toasting the elders. An Ning wondered if she had done something wrong and remained extremely cautious throughout the banquet. Seeing Lei Ting's expression, just as the event was about to end, An Ning suggested cutting the cake together, just like last year. Lei Ting shoved the cake cart away, kicking up dust, leaving An Ning bewildered. The entire Lei family was baffled by Lei Ting's outburst. Yu Li quickly took An Ning inside to comfort her. The housekeeper came out to clean the yard, and the guests dispersed. Lei Zhenyu and Yu Li were going to wait for Lei Ting to return to the mansion to ask him what he meant. An Ning, fearing Lei Ting would be scolded, persuaded her parents to go home and waited for Lei Ting alone in the house until dawn. Her parents called An Ning, and she pretended nothing had happened, a white lie that deceived her parents who were far away in another country.

Han Yi: "Honey, how was your feast today? Did you have fun?"

An Ning: "I'm very happy."

Han Yi: "That's good. When will the video be released? Mom will take a look and see if it's the same as your first wedding anniversary video..."

Anning: "The recording may take some time. I will share it with my mother when it comes out."

Han Yi: "Okay, baby. Mom and Dad are busy with a new project in Anyang recently, so we can't call you often. If you're bored, go out shopping. Just be happy."
