Chapter 23 Morning Run

Early in the morning, Lei Ting changed into Liao Qian's sportswear and waited in front of An Ning's house. Several groups of property management staff came and went, but Lei Ting saw them all off. After waiting for almost half an hour, Lei Ting was about to call An Ning when she finally came out. An Ning was dressed in sportswear, her hair tied in a ponytail, just like when they first met—carefree and sunny. An Ning saw Lei Ting waiting at her door and greeted him.

Thunder: "Peace..."

Anning: "You're up so early!"

Thunder: "Didn't we agree to go for a run this morning?"

An Ning: "Oh... I forgot. Let's go then, the playground is behind us."

Thunder: "Okay..."

Anning ran ahead, and Leiting chased after her, his eyes never leaving her. Anning's stamina was amazing; she ran until she was covered in sweat before stopping to rest.

On a bench in the playground, Lei Ting handed An Ning a bottle of water. An Ning took a sip, and sweat streamed down her neck. Lei Ting wanted to wipe it for her, but he didn't dare move because he knew An Ning wouldn't like it. After thinking for a moment, he handed An Ning a tissue instead. An Ning wiped her sweat while talking to him.

Anning: "Why do you stare at me so much?"

Thunder: "I...I'm grateful to you, grateful that your family lent me money so I could come to school here."

An Ning: "It's nothing, we should help each other out."

Thunder: "How come you're so kind? I never noticed before."

An Ning: "Hmm? Have we known each other before?"

Thunder: "No, I meant I wish I'd known you sooner..."

An Ning smiled, and Lei Ting smiled back at him. Since they didn't know each other anymore, they should get to know each other again. Lei Ting started talking to An Ning.

Thunder: "Anning, I usually like to exercise and eat barbecue. I am very filial at home. What do you like to do?"

Anning: "I'm usually quite quiet and don't have many true friends. I like baking cakes, but some of my friends won't bake with me."

Thunder: "I also like baking bread. I'll bake with you! Come to school to bake when you have time. It's a baking class at New York University. I'll save you a spot."

An Ning: "No, I don't think so... I'm very busy with work on weekdays."

Thunder: "Hmm... I'm already the King of Bread!"

An Ning: "It's all just empty titles. Don't you have classes?"

Thunder: "I don't need to, I can just do some practice hours whenever I want..."

An Ning: "Well... it's quite leisurely."

Thunder: "Are you hiring at your factory, or are you hiring an assistant? I can be your assistant."

An Ning: "Ah! I..."

Thunder: "You don't need to pay me a salary. I'll work to pay off my debts. That way, I'll feel better."

An Ning: "This... I'm in a bit of a dilemma."

Thunder: "I won't make things difficult for you, I won't mention it again."

Anning: "Why don't you go to the dessert shop near our door and learn how to bake bread first? I'll teach you when I have time. You can consider becoming my assistant after you stop going to school, how about that?"

Thunder: "Okay."

Lei Ting agreed very readily. An Ning smiled. This Lei Ting gave her a different feeling, making her want to get close to him, but also want to escape. It was a very contradictory feeling.

Anning: "I'm going home to take a shower. You should go home early too!"

Thunder: "Can I come to your house for breakfast?"

Anning: "Auntie should have finished cooking by now, let's go..."

Thunder: "Yay..."

Lei Ting kept pestering An Ning. An Ning led him into the living room. An Yang looked back and saw that Lei Ting had also arrived. Instantly, his sunny face turned gloomy.

An Yang: "Sister, why are you with him?"

Anning: "We went for a run together. He hasn't had breakfast yet, so let's eat together!"

Thunder: "Yeah! I'm so trying to save money to pay off my debts that I don't even have money for breakfast anymore."

An Yang: "You... Sister, you go take a shower first."

An Ning: "Lei Ting, please have a seat. Dinner will be served shortly."

Thunder: "I'll wait for you..."

Lei Ting watched An Ning go upstairs with deep affection. An Yang was furious and grabbed him, ready to hit him. Han Yi and An Yiyang came downstairs.

An Yang: "Are you crazy?! You don't have money for breakfast?! What the hell?!"

Han Yi: "Yangyang..."

An Yang: "Mom, he's so awful! He actually used my sister to come to our house for breakfast."

Han Yi: "Yangyang, go sit at the dining table. Leiting, what exactly do you want?"

Thunder: "Mom..."

Han Yi: "Hmm?"

Lei Ting: "Auntie, I just want to be closer to Anning."

Han Yi: "Thunder, with your qualifications, you can find someone even better than Anning."

Thunder: "No way, it has to be her. I'll marry no one but her in this lifetime..."

An Yiyang: "Alright, alright, let's stop talking about this at home and sit here at the dining table!"

Thunder: "Okay..."

An Yang: "I really want to beat you to death..."

Lei Ting sat down at the dining table without any ceremony. The elders of the An family shook their heads at him. Lei Ting diligently poured milk for An Yiyang and took over the work from the nanny. Han Yi asked him to sit down, saying that she had a few words to tell him.

Han Yi: "Lei Ting, you saw it too, An Ning doesn't recognize you anymore. Can you please stop hurting her?"

Lei Ting: "Mom, I definitely won't hurt An Ning. I'll take her back and I'll take good care of her and treat her well for the rest of my life."

An Yiyang: "After all, you hurt our Anning and Leiting because of Jasmine. Why didn't you marry Jasmine after Anning divorced you?"

Lei Ting: "I never intended to marry her. At most, I wanted her to be my mistress. I never intended for her to be my wife. I said I would take her home because I felt quite satisfied after we met again that day. I never intended to drive An Ning away, and I am unwilling to get a divorce."
