In a panic, Lei Ting hung up the phone. A close-up photo of Jasmine appeared on his phone. Lei Ting glanced at it, and Jasmine's soft voice echoed in his mind. Holding his ID card, Lei Ting made up his mind, took his documents, and walked into the Civil Affairs Bureau. He turned off his phone because Yu Li had called him. An Ning also turned off her phone because Yu Li had called her. The two sat on the chairs, neither of them speaking.
A couple ahead of her were getting married, their hands clasped together in a blissful and sweet manner. This reminded An Ning of when he and Lei Ting got married, and a slight smile appeared on An Ning's lips, but it quickly faded away.
Staff member: "Next."
When it was their turn, An Ning got up and walked to the staff. Lei Ting's legs suddenly felt like lead, and he didn't want to stand up until the staff urged him to.
Staff member: "Please come over here and give me your identification."
Thunder: "I..."
Lei Ting shuffled over to the staff member, who then photocopied, stamped, and wrote things on his ID card. Lei Ting desperately hoped for a power outage, or for the photocopy to break, or for An Ning to hug him and say she wouldn't divorce him. He would immediately snatch the ID card back and refuse to divorce An Ning. Lei Ting's wishful thinking was shattered when the staff member's words echoed in his ears.
Staff member: "Did you get a divorce voluntarily?"
Anning: "Yes... please hurry..."
The staff looked at Lei Ting, who paused, unable to utter the sentence. Only when the staff looked at him with a questioning gaze did Lei Ting finally manage to squeeze out a "yes."
Thunder: "Yes."
Staff: "Please give me your marriage certificate... If there are no objections, the marriage certificate will be destroyed. Your divorce is now in effect."
An Ning nodded and handed the marriage certificate to the staff member. Lei Ting was stunned for a moment. In that instant, his marriage certificate was already in the shredder. He instinctively tried to snatch it back, but it was already in the shredder. He even startled the staff member, who pushed his hand away. With a loud crash, his marriage certificate was shredded beyond repair. Two steel stamps followed, and the divorce certificate became effective. The staff member handed the divorce certificate to Lei Ting. The cold cover jolted him awake as he stared at the three large characters boldly displayed: Divorce Certificate.
Thunder: "Ah! This is...this is..."
Staff: "Please take this, next one."
Anning had already left her seat and walked out the door with the divorce certificate when Leiting picked it up and chased after her. He grabbed Anning's arm; it was cold. Leiting quickly took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Anning shrugged, and the coat fell to the ground. Anning hadn't looked at him once. Leiting picked up the coat, and Anning continued walking, passing his car and waving at a taxi on the side of the road. Leiting followed, grabbing Anning's arm and asking...
Thunder: "Anning, Anning, the car's here, where are you going..."
An Ning didn't answer. Lei Ting waved his hand, scaring away several taxis that were about to approach. Lei Ting wanted to carry her to his car; he had only one thought in his mind: he couldn't let An Ning leave, he had to take her home. An Ning dodged backward, and a luxury car arrived behind them. Lei Zhenyu, Yu Li, and Lei Ye and Lei Nai arrived, and Lei Ye jumped out of the car. Lei Ye, holding a dragon-headed cane, without saying a word, slammed the cane into Lei Ting's chest, knocking him to the ground. He continued to beat him, and Lei Ting coughed up blood. An Ning didn't even look at him. Lei Nai stepped forward and took An Ning's hand, but An Ning didn't raise her head.
Lei Ye: "Unworthy descendants, unworthy descendants..."
Yu Li: "Anning, did you just arrive and not go inside yet? Say something to Mom..."
Grandma Lei: "Anning, why are your hands so cold? Why are you dressed so lightly? Let Grandma take your pulse. Ah! Anning, does your stomach hurt? Let's go home. Let's go home and Grandma will take care of you."
Grandma Lei draped a shawl over Anning's shoulders, but Anning didn't shake it off. Grandpa Lei was still pounding the thunder, and the divorce certificate fell out of his pocket. Yu Li quickly picked it up and looked at it, unwilling to give up. She opened it to examine it.
Yu Li: "Ah! Divorce certificate."
When Yu Li opened the divorce certificate, the stamp and photo inside caused her to stumble and fall into Lei Zhenyu's arms, bursting into tears. She pointed at Lei Ting and started cursing.
Yu Li: "You bastard, you're going to drive me crazy! I locked the door! You're going to drive me crazy..."
When Lei Ye saw the divorce certificate, he was so angry that he could hardly stand. Lei Zhenyu supported Yu Li with one hand and Lei Ye with the other.
Lei Zhenyu: "Dad, don't get so angry you'll ruin your health. You damned bastard, get in the car, let's go home. When we get home I'll skin you alive..."
Grandma Lei: "Anning, good child, I'm so sorry you had to go through all this. You're still not fully recovered, let's go back first. It's important for you to rest and recover. We'll talk about it again when you're better, good child. I'm so sorry you had to go through all this! Quickly drag this bastard into the car, I'm going to beat him to death when we get home."
When Master Lei swung his dragon-headed cane, Lei Ting was truly terrified. He was beaten so badly he couldn't stand up. The butler helped him and put him in the car. An Ning remained silent throughout, while Yu Li cried in anger. Lei Zhenyu even contemplated killing Lei Ting. An Ning and Grandma Lei sat in the extended luxury car, with Yu Li comforting An Ning, determined to teach Lei Ting a lesson. Lei Zhenyu, Master Lei, and Lei Ting rode back in the car An Ning had driven, and Lei Zhenyu couldn't help but curse.
Lei Zhenyu: "You damned bastard, you divorced An Ning for that slut, why don't you just die in her bed, you damned bastard."
Lei Ye: "Lei Ting, cheating, forcing An Ning to have an abortion, divorce, everything is your fault."
Lei Ting: "Master, I don't want An Ning to leave. Master, I... I don't know what I'm thinking, I just don't want An Ning to leave."
