Chapter 34 Can't Remember

An Yang found An Ning, who was being blown about by the sea breeze, at the bow of the ship. An Ning tucked her hair back up, which had been ruffled by the sea breeze. Just then, a foreigner carrying a child walked past An Ning hand in hand with a heavily pregnant woman. An Ning looked at them and unconsciously touched her own belly. Suddenly realizing what she was doing, An Ning shook her head. What was she doing?

Anyang: "Sis, you're here! I've been looking for you for ages."

An Ning: "An Yang, what do you want?"

An Yang: "Um... your parents need to talk to you about something."

Anning: "Did Mom and Dad want to see me? What is it?"

Anyang: "Let Mom and Dad talk to you about that! Come on! They're all waiting for you in the room!"

An Ning: "Okay, you guys have been so secretive these past few days. Have you been preparing some kind of surprise for me behind my back?"

An Yang: "It's more like a shock. Sister, you might hear something that will shatter your worldview. You should be prepared."

An Ning: "What? Let's go..."

Anyang: "Wait a moment, you go in first, I'll be right there."

An Ning: "Okay!"

An Ning returned to the room. Han Yi and An Yiyang looked grave. Han Yi had already prepared her explanation and asked An Ning to sit down. An Yiyang, however, kept his eyes closed and remained silent.

Anning: "Why is the atmosphere like this... Mom, what's wrong..."

An Yang returned and locked the door. The three of them looked at each other, and Han Yi took out her phone and showed An Ning a photo.

Han Yi: "Ning'er, look at this photo. Can you remember anything?"

Han Yi showed An Ning the photos on her phone. The photos were from An Ning's first visit to Lei Ting's grandparents' house. The epiphyllum was blooming, and Lei Ting's grandmother said it was a very auspicious sign. She had a photographer take pictures of them; it was An Ning and Lei Ting's first family photo after their marriage, though An Ning didn't remember it. Everyone in the photo was smiling, even Lei Ting. An Ning was leaning on Lei Ting's shoulder, looking very happy. An Ning couldn't remember taking this photo, so she took it to look at it more closely.

An Ning: "This is Lei Ting's family! How come I'm in here? When was this photo taken? I don't remember! Why am I leaning on his shoulder? And this is Hanfu, and I'm wearing a hairpin. I have no recollection of any of this! What's going on?!"

Anyang: "Sis, take this. It's a calming fragrance. I just asked the waiter outside for it. Take a sniff and calm down."

An Yang had anticipated this and, fearing An Ning might lose her composure, had prepared a calming fragrance. An Ning sniffed about half a bottle but couldn't recall when the photo was taken. Seeing that An Ning had calmed down, Han Yi slowly told her.

Han Yi: "An Ning, Lei Ting is your husband. He's the husband you married two years ago. You went back to China to get your marriage certificate, then you got divorced. You only came back to us six months ago."

An Ning looked at Han Yi in disbelief, then at An Yang. An Yang nodded, while An Yi Yang kept his eyes closed and remained silent. How could An Ning not remember? How could that be? How could someone who had been married for two years forget?

An Ning: "Lei Ting is my husband? How is that possible? I have no recollection of him at all. How could this be... How could he be my husband?"

Anning clearly didn't believe that Leiting was her husband. Han Yi then showed her their wedding photos, in which Anning was wearing a wedding dress and Leiting was embracing her. Anning had no recollection of the photos at all. Anning found it all too unbelievable.

Anning: "Mom, could this be a hacker photoshopped to extort money from our family...? That's impossible... I don't even know him..."

Han Yi: "You don't know him because... because he cheated on you and forced you to abort your child, which led to your divorce. You were very sad when you came back. Your father and I couldn't bear to see you sad, so we found a hypnotist to help you forget everything about Lei Ting."

An Ning: "What? Is this a novel written by Xin Qiu Bai? It's so melodramatic! He cheated on me and forced me to abort the child! Is this child not his, or is there something wrong with him?"

An Ning was a little excited, shaking her head and asking, then clutching her stomach, "I don't feel anything!" Seeing An Ning's incredulous look, An Yang said...

An Yang: "Sister, your child is naturally his. He's a bastard. Don't think about it anymore. Thinking about it too much will give you a headache. Don't think about it anymore."

Anning: "No, didn't you say he was a relative of ours? Now you're telling me he's my husband. If he's not my husband, why are you only telling me now? And how could I possibly forget my husband? Is hypnosis really that powerful?!"

An Yang: "Sister, we didn't want you to forget him either, but you were so depressed back then, you wouldn't eat or drink, so we found a hypnotist... The hypnotist said that your subconscious was trying to avoid these things, so it was more effective. Our family has been avoiding him for half a year, but who knew that this guy would come back again."

Han Yi: "Daughter, Mom didn't mean to lie to you. Mom was afraid that you would remember those things again and face those pains again."

An Ning: "Let me think about it first! Don't talk."

The three dared not speak. An Ning rested her hands on her forehead, closed her eyes, and meditated intently. An Yang took the opportunity to place a calming fragrance under her nose, letting her inhale a lot of the tranquilizer. After a moment, the three's hearts were in their throats. An Ning opened her eyes and looked around.

An Ning: "I still can't remember anything."

Han Yi: "Ah! You scared me to death, my dear. Our whole family came here to avoid him. Don't overthink it. If you don't like him, we'll stay far away from him."

An Ning: "You've been acting so mysteriously these past few days, and An Yang has been watching me closely. You're just trying to avoid him!"

An Yang: "Yeah. He's bothering me again. He's so awful, I wish I could tear him to pieces."
