Chapter 129 Hidden Tenderness

Sheng Xuan raised his thick, sword-like eyebrows and explained, "It's almost the end of the year, and there are three advertisements that need to be rushed. The creative team came up with several proposals, but I didn't like any of them, so I had to make them all work overtime."

"What about the other departments?" Ning Lang asked.

Sheng Xuan shrugged and replied, "If the work isn't finished, of course we have to work overtime to complete it. Everything needs to be sorted out before the New Year so we can finally relax and enjoy the holiday. Do you expect us to make them work overtime on the first day of the Lunar New Year?"

"Oh... so there is a holiday for Chinese New Year." Ning Lang chuckled. "Some employees are worried that they'll have to stay here and eat takeout with you on the first day of the Lunar New Year."

Sheng Xuan was very clever and immediately guessed that someone had secretly complained to her.

"It's just talk; I won't lack basic human touch."

Ning Lang walked in lazily, slumped onto the sofa, and stretched her slender legs across the coffee table.

"You're all humane! What time is it and you're still working overtime? You're not planning to have all the employees sleep here tonight, are you? Are you going to sleep with them?"

Sheng Xuan continued typing, explaining, "There are no blankets or toiletries here, but it's very close. I can run back in three minutes. So what if I'm a little late?"

Ning Lang squinted and whispered, "I really envy people whose workplaces and homes are close by. I just came from 'Erpinxiang,' and it takes me half an hour to get home."

Sheng Xuan glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and couldn't help but ask, "Is your low blood sugar better now? You've been eating sugar all along, haven't you?"

"We're not little kids anymore, there's no need for us to eat candy every day." Ning Lang murmured, "It'll be ready soon."

Sheng Xuan's deep eyes darkened slightly, and he scoffed, "You keep saying others are working overtime, but haven't you been working overtime until now? I can go to bed before midnight, but you have to drive and take a shower, so you probably won't get any sleep at all!"

Ning Lang raised her hand and covered her forehead.

"It only happens occasionally, not often. I'm also afraid of dying suddenly from staying up late."

Sheng Xuan typed rapidly on the keyboard, occasionally bringing up documents to review.

"How have you been these past few days, Ah-Lu? It's quite cold outside. The doctor told me to remind you to keep changing the heater in the house so the air doesn't get too bad."

"Mmm," Ning Lang responded softly.

Sheng Xuan continued, "That day I went straight to the old house to see Uncle Qing, but he happened to be away. It turned out he was visiting his granddaughter. He said that after the fight at the manor years ago, my grandfather advocated for the division of the family property. The second and third branches of the family both owned properties at the time, but they were not very large. My grandfather said that the manor would be temporarily lent to them, and they have been living there ever since."

"Are you sure it's a loan, not a gift?" Ning Lang asked.

“It was a loan,” Sheng Xuan explained. “Qingbo is absolutely certain that it was a loan. However, he doesn’t know anything about the land deed; he has always mistakenly believed that the manor was resold to Sheng Ju.”

Ning Lang rubbed her eyes and said in a low voice, "I've already asked someone to help me check whose name is on the legal documents for that manor. Yesterday, I heard that it's quite old and we need to retrieve the old files, so I'll have to wait another day or two."

"Oh." Sheng Xuan nodded. "Then wait a moment."

The office quieted down, with only the soft tapping of Sheng Xuan's keyboard remaining.

A moment later, he looked up at Ning Lang and saw that she was breathing evenly and seemed to have fallen asleep.

He gently picked up the remote control on his desk and turned up the room's heating by two degrees.

Then he got back to work—but stopped again very quickly.

He tiptoed to his feet, took his coat from the corner, and gently covered Ning Lang with it.
