The old man glanced at him, smiled, and asked, "Grandpa only has one granddaughter, how could I not love her more? It's because you're not a girl. If you were a girl, I would love you more."
Ning Rui clutched his chest and cried out in anguish, "That's heartbreaking!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
The old man glanced around again and asked, "Where's A-Xuan? Why hasn't she arrived yet?"
Ning Rui replied, "He will come for the reunion dinner later and stay up with us tonight to celebrate the New Year."
"Alright." The old man laughed, "Put on some exciting entertainment tonight, so this old codger can have some fun!"
"Yes, Grandpa!"

In the evening, Sheng Xuan arrived carrying large and small bags.
He prepared a gift for each of his elders, offered his blessings repeatedly, and earned more than a dozen large red envelopes.
"Everyone, please take your seats! The family reunion dinner is about to begin!"
Sheng Xuan helped the old man Ning Gu to sit in the main seat, and then sat down next to Ning Rui, glancing around out of the corner of his eye.
"What are you looking at!" Ning Rui raised an eyebrow and sneered. "Ah Lang is helping out in the big kitchen, he'll be here in a bit. It's only been half a day since I've seen him, it's so damn annoying! I feel like I'm going to sit on a lemon tree!"
Sheng Xuan snorted: "I have something to discuss with her about the company. What do you think I need to talk to her about!"
"Hey!" Ning Rui pointed to a large pot of daffodils on a coffee table not far away. "These daffodils don't bloom much, which is quite like you."
Sheng Xuan: "..."
Ning Qi, who was scrolling through her phone, couldn't hear clearly. She glanced up at the pot of daffodils and said, "Only a few daffodils have bloomed this year. They're really good at pretending!"
Ning Rui burst into laughter.
Sheng Xuanjun blushed slightly and leaned over to tug at Ning Qi's arm.
"Hey bro, come sit over here! We'll drink our fill later!"
Ning Qi leaned towards him and asked, "Wasn't this seat specially reserved for A Lang? What am I supposed to do here? Am I stuck between you two as a third wheel?"
Sheng Xuanjun's face flushed red, and he coughed lightly, feeling awkward.
"Um... she's going to N country soon. Green isn't doing well, so she's taking it there for a few months and will come back when it's summer here."
Ning Qi and Ning Rui exchanged a glance, then asked in surprise and concern, "What's wrong with Ah Lu?"
Sheng Xuan said in a low voice, "It's too old, it won't live much longer. She's very sad and plans to take it on a trip to N country for a while."
"How come we didn't know?" Ning Rui asked, frowning. "Ah Lang didn't tell us at all. How is Ah Lu now?"
Sheng Xuan replied, "She's still at the pet hospital and won't be discharged for a few more days."
Ning Qi glanced at him and asked, "What are you planning to do, kid?"
Sheng Xuanjun's face flushed slightly, and he said in a low voice, "It's too unsafe for her to be alone in a foreign country."
Ning Rui suppressed a laugh and asked, "And then?"
"I was just going to see my dad anyway," Sheng Xuan said, her eyes darting away. "I just happened to be going with her, it was just a side trip."
We grew up together and know each other very well.
Ning Qi and the others were well aware of Sheng Xuan's stubborn and arrogant nature, and they understood perfectly well what he was saying. However, understanding was one thing, but they also pretended to be ignorant like Sheng Xuan.
Ning Rui rolled her eyes and said, "She took Ah Lü on vacation, what are you doing going with her? I heard from someone the other day that you're a workaholic who works overtime every day, often not leaving the company until 11 or 12 at night. Are you that free?"
Ning Qi was even more blunt, sneering, "Ah Lang studied in N country for several years. Why didn't you feel unsafe in a foreign country back then? She's not a child, she doesn't need you to accompany her!"
