Chapter 21 Giving Bad Ideas

Lin Huier forced a smile and said apologetically in a low voice, "I haven't been feeling well these past two days, so I haven't come to see you."

Even his little follower Liao Congming was forbidden by the elders from having much contact with Sheng Xuan, leaving him all alone.

Sheng Xuan nodded and said in a deep voice, "It's alright."

The car stopped at a red light. Lin Huier glanced at her meticulously made-up face and sighed repeatedly.

"Ah-Xuan, you're facing such difficulties right now, are you really not planning to sell the old house?"

Sheng Xuan's face darkened slightly, and he said irritably, "I've said it before! That's the house my grandfather left behind, and I will never sell it!"

Every time he raised his voice even slightly, Lin Huier's eyes would immediately turn red.

This time, there was no exception.

She bit her lower lip lightly, tears welling up in her eyes.

"But...you have nothing left but me now...I want to help you, but I don't know how I can help."

Seeing that she was about to cry again, Sheng Xuan quickly softened his tone.

"Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine."

He's not good at comforting people, but his intuition tells him that if he speaks in a gentler tone and lowers his voice, it's a standard way to comfort someone.

Unexpectedly, Lin Huier was a natural crybaby, and she would shed several tears for no reason, let alone in this situation.

Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, "Ah-Xuan, please don't try to comfort me... I know you're feeling terrible right now..."

Sheng Xuan frowned and sighed, "Don't cry, it makes me feel even worse. The light's green, let's drive!"

Lin Huier hurriedly wiped away her tears, shifted gears, and continued driving.

"Ah-Xuan, if you don't want to sell the old house, do you have any other options? What are your plans for the future?"

"I don't know." Sheng Xuan roughly scratched his hair and said in a deep voice, "Let's take it one step at a time."

Over the years, while studying abroad, he dabbled in stocks quite a bit. In the early stages, he made some profits and some losses, but gradually he made more profits than losses and accumulated a small amount of money which he kept in an overseas account.

He had only recently returned and wasn't yet familiar with the domestic stock market, so he decided to observe for a while before making any moves.

They wanted to wipe him out, but he refused to believe it!

Hearing these words, Lin Huier felt even more miserable.

If he has a bright future, then she can hold on a little longer.

Seeing his current listless and unmotivated state, she felt unbearably anxious.

Just then, the rearview mirror of the car in front flickered slightly, and the reflected light shone on her, making her suddenly remember something.

"Ah Xuan, um... when you and Ning Lang divorced, didn't she return your wedding ring?"

She had seen that enormous wedding ring before; it was one of the most exquisite creations by the most famous jewelry designer in Country Y, a large, pure pinkish-purple diamond that sparkled brilliantly and was said to be worth over nine figures.

Sheng Xuan paused slightly, as if she had just remembered this matter.

"You mean 'Purple Cloud Sea'?"

“Yes!” Lin Huier nodded hurriedly.

Sheng Xuan blinked uncomfortably twice, glancing out the car window.

"I gave her that wedding ring back when we got engaged...it's been eight or nine years."

The Ning family has always been low-key. After his grandfather repeatedly proposed that the two families be related by marriage, they finally agreed, but emphasized that both of them were still young and the ceremony should be simple.

His grandfather always felt that Ning Lang was being treated too unfairly, and asked him if there was any good way to compensate his future daughter-in-law.

Back then, he and Ning Lang were like oil and water, and he couldn't wait to provoke her and take the opportunity to break off the engagement.

So he volunteered, "Grandpa, let me help her pick out a big diamond ring! I know what her favorite color is."

He then personally chose the "Purple Cloud Sea" ring from among a group of exquisite diamond rings designed by top designers, simply because she didn't like purple.
