Chapter 24 Guilty Feelings

Sheng Xuan rolled over, still groggy: "I forgot..."

Lin Huier offered, "Then I'll help you look for it."

Sheng Xuan remained motionless, seemingly fast asleep.

Lin Huier got up and went to the antique dressing table, quickly pulling out small drawers and cabinets, rummaging through them one by one.

The furniture in the Sheng family's old house is all in a retro style. The wardrobes and closets are all made of carved sandalwood, and even a small dressing table is made of rosewood.

She searched the entire place but found no trace of the ring.

Sheng Xuan has always been a carefree and easygoing man. Apart from fashion sense, he is rough around the edges in all other aspects of his life.

Apart from an exquisite peach wood comb, there were no other ornaments on the dressing table.

Undeterred, Lin Huier turned and went to the other wardrobe, carefully continuing to rummage through it.

At this moment, Uncle Qing brought in two cups of tea. Seeing Lin Huier rummaging through the drawers, he couldn't help but frown.

"Miss Lin, what are you looking for?"

Lin Huier was startled and hurriedly turned around, shyly whispering, "Uncle Qing, I'm helping A-Xuan look for something."

Uncle Qing is the steward of the Sheng family's old house and knows the place inside and out very well.

"I wonder what the young master is looking for? Perhaps I can be of assistance."

Lin Huier's eyes darted away for a moment, then she quickly revealed a sweet smile.

“I just brought A-Xuan back, and he said he wanted to return the wedding ring that Ning Lang gave him to her.”

"A wedding ring?" Uncle Qing looked at the inside with suspicion and asked, "The one that the young mistress and young master exchanged as a wedding ring when they got engaged?"

The Ning family is very traditional, and the younger generation's weddings are all Chinese-style weddings.

When they were discussing their engagement, because the two main characters were both quite young, they only chose the most traditional and representative option—exchanging wedding rings.

Lin Huier nodded hurriedly, sighed and said in a low voice, "A-Xuan has always disliked Ning Lang. After finally getting a divorce, she wanted to completely sever ties with her. Since the divorce is over, there's no point in keeping a wedding ring. I plan to return it to her and also get 'Purple Cloud Sea' back."

Uncle Qing's eyes flickered slightly, and he smiled gently and politely.

“Such valuable items are usually kept by the master himself. Only the young master knows where they are now.”

After speaking, the old man bowed slightly, turned and left.

Lin Huier glanced at his back suspiciously, biting her lower lip lightly.

Then, she turned around, went around the screen, and sat boldly on the edge of Sheng Xuan's bed.

"Ah Xuan, did you throw away the wedding ring Ning Lang gave you?"

Sheng Xuan was half asleep, but seemed a little annoyed. He rolled over, his tall frame lolling over.

Undeterred, Lin Huier leaned closer.

"I heard the Ning family is really stingy. What kind of nice ring could she possibly give you? You didn't throw it in the trash eight years ago, did you?"

She gazed at his handsome, deep-set features, momentarily mesmerized, and couldn't help but gently stroke his strong arm, again and again.

"Ah-Xuan~"

Sheng Xuan suddenly opened her eyes and sat up straight.

Lin Huier chuckled softly, teasingly saying, "Ah Xuan, why are you so sensitive! We've been so intimate, yet you seem even more sensitive than me, a girl..."

"It's not that I'm sensitive, I'm just ticklish." Sheng Xuan got up and took off her wrinkled thin coat, tossing it aside.

Lin Huier giggled, "Alright, alright! I won't laugh at you anymore! Ah Xuan, did you really lose the ring?"

Sheng Xuan took out a thin vest from the wardrobe and quickly put it on.

"I don't know where it's lost it. I'll ask Uncle Qing to help me look for it later."

Lin Huier stood up and gently pulled his collar up for him.

"Oh? When did you start wearing a little black string? I've never noticed it before."

"It's nothing." Sheng Xuan took a step back, turned around and walked out of the room. "I'm hungry, let's go have lunch."

Lin Huier caught up with him and affectionately hugged his arm.

"Then hurry up and have someone find it and get 'Purple Cloud Sea' back!"

Sheng Xuan nodded absentmindedly.
