Chapter 77 Preferring Sons to Daughters

Second floor, study

While other people's studies might be filled with mountains of books, the Lin family's study only had a row of bookshelves against the wall, with a few hardcover books that were still in their original packaging; the rest of the room was filled with wine.

There are hundreds of different kinds of red and white wines.

Lin Zhong is nearly sixty years old. Years of extravagance, drinking and feasting, and indulging in women have made his face sallow and loose, and coupled with his obesity, he looks much older than his peers.

He loved to drink, and despite numerous warnings from doctors, he continued to do as he pleased, taking his medication while never letting go of his glass.

Having just returned from a charity gala, he felt the wine at the banquet wasn't good enough and wasn't satisfying at all, so he asked his servant to open another bottle of 1982 Lafite to continue drinking.

"Knock knock!" The door to the study rang.

Then, a soft voice called out, "Daddy, it's me, Xiao Ba."

Lin Zhong took a swig of wine and said gruffly, "Come in!"

The door opened, and Lin Huier, wearing a delicate light coat and with her hair styled in pretty braids, walked in with small steps.

"Daddy~" She smiled sweetly and obediently, skipping lightly like a little butterfly to Lin Zhong's side and hugging his arm affectionately. "Xiao Ba hasn't seen you for several days and has missed you so much."

Lin Zhong squinted and smiled softly with affection.

"Sweetie, sit down! Have a drink with Daddy."

Lin Huier obediently agreed, poured him a glass of wine first, and then took another glass of red wine and poured a little bit for herself.

"Dad, I wish you continued success in your career and that our family will become increasingly wealthy and happy."

Lin Zhong smiled and nodded in satisfaction, saying, "Okay."

He came from a rural area and didn't receive much education as a child. Apart from his daring and thieving nature, he had no other outstanding qualities.

It was precisely because of his extraordinary courage and willingness to engage in business in the gray area that he made a lot of money at a young age.

He is a very traditional man who believes that there must be a son in the family to inherit his money and to prevent the family line from ending. Therefore, he is willing to be fined tens or even hundreds of thousands of yuan in order to have a son.

Unfortunately, his wife gave birth to five daughters in a row, but not a single son.

He was naturally a womanizer, and with money in hand, he simply used this as an excuse to keep mistresses, even having three, four, or five mistresses on the side.

Unexpectedly, several years passed, and he had five more daughters, but still none of them gave him a son.

He was both angry and helpless, so he simply lingered among the flowers and didn't go home, paying little attention to his daughters.

When his concubines ran out of money, they would come to him for more. He was never short of money anyway, so he would just throw some money at any of them and tell them to get lost. His solution was simple and brutal.

Later, the eldest daughter in the family got married.

The first wife was very good at socializing and used his money to get involved with many wealthy women. Because her eldest daughter was quite good-looking, the first wife used her social circle to marry her daughter into a wealthy family.

At the time, his business was in a bottleneck period, but because his eldest daughter married into a wealthy family, he successfully transformed his business and his assets more than doubled!

He was pleasantly surprised to discover that daughters who marry well are not necessarily a financial burden.

So he persuaded his first wife to bring their other daughters, whom they had been raising outside, back home.

Of his several concubines, only the fourth one was simple-minded and didn't know how to please him. She only gave birth to one daughter for him, so he didn't initially intend to bring her and her daughter back.

On the contrary, the daughter was very well-behaved, and the first wife took the initiative to nod and let the mother and daughter into the house.

He was a businessman, and naturally wanted to make money. He also believed that the number "eight" was related to "prosperity," so he figured that since he had already brought it home, he couldn't lose the "eight" and finally agreed.
