Jiang Mian didn't know why she suddenly had such thoughts. In his tender and lingering kiss, she felt that reason seemed to be getting further and further away from her. If this continued, she was afraid that one day she would completely lose her self-awareness and become his caged bird.

She didn't want to live like this, and while Shen Ji was away for the past few days, she thought of several ways to escape.

She had been inquiring about the situation over the past few days, and the guards outside were on duty in an orderly manner during the day, only dispersing at night. If she wanted to go out, she would have better take advantage of the shift change at 7 PM and sneak out through the back door.

She knew she couldn't completely escape yet, but she had to find a way to send a message. Yunji didn't know she hadn't returned to Yangzhou yet, so she had to tell her first. As for what to do next, she would have to think about it carefully.

Jiang Mian gripped the key tightly, her heart fluttering slightly. Shen Ji was always cautious, yet he had unintentionally lost a key. She reassured herself that perhaps he was too busy and by the time he remembered to look for the key, he would have already left it somewhere.

If we don't go out now, it will be even harder to find another opportunity.

After thinking it through, she waited quietly for night to fall. Finally, the guards outside dispersed, and Jiang Mian turned off the lights, pretending to be asleep. In reality, she quietly opened the back door and left without any hindrance.

The wind was a bit strong outside, but she was filled with joy at having escaped safely. Her mind was filled with happiness. She followed her memory to the Shen residence. Because she was afraid that Shen Ji would find out, she only dared to linger nearby. Perhaps she was very lucky, because she happened to see Yun Ji returning from outside.

A hint of surprise flashed in Jiang Mian's eyes. Just as she was about to step forward, a carriage slowly pulled up to the side.

Yun Ji was talking to the person in the carriage. Jiang Mian pursed her lips and didn't dare to get on. The carriage looked low-key but luxurious. Although she didn't know who it was, if it was Shen Ji, wouldn't she be caught and taken back after finally escaping?

After much deliberation, Jiang Mian felt that this was not the best time, so she stepped back, unaware that she had just missed the crucial moment to escape.

The moonlight was clear and alluring. Yunji had been feeling lost and distraught these past few days. Her young mistress had left a letter and gone to Yangzhou without saying what she was going to do. Yunji had been worried about her mistress for several days and went to the eldest young master to ask for his help in finding out where her mistress was.

The eldest son told her that the young lady had indeed returned to Yangzhou.

Yunji was slightly relieved, but she still felt a bit complicated. Since she could remember, she had always been by her young mistress's side, taking her with her wherever she went. This time, her young mistress left alone, and although she felt complicated, she was more worried.

They escaped from Yangzhou together, that cannibalistic place. They wondered if the young lady would encounter danger again.

She had been worried for several days and had just sent a letter back home when, as soon as she returned to her residence, someone called out to her from behind.

Yunji looked back and saw a dark carriage, its heavy curtains lifted gently by a fingertip with distinct knuckles. The lamplight in front of the door was dim, and a few rays of light shone on his handsome face.

Three years had passed, and compared to the handsome young man he once was, the person before him was more mature and composed. Yun Ji recognized him at a glance as the young master Wen Shi who had fallen off the cliff years ago.

He is also the young lady's fiancé.

Yunji stared wide-eyed in disbelief. If it weren't for the shadow on the person in front of her, she would have thought she had encountered a ghost for a moment.

“Young Master Wen Shi…” Yun Ji called out the name softly, somewhat uncertainly.

Song Mingyan smiled gently. He had been traveling for days and was eager to see his Mian'er. He thought Mian'er was still in Yangzhou, but unexpectedly she came to her maternal grandmother's house in Jizhou.

That's fine. Her parents are dead, and her aunt's family wasn't good people to begin with. He heard that they actually wanted to marry his Mian'er off to that county magistrate who was almost fifty years old. He taught them a lesson by stepping in, so Mian'er shouldn't be angry.

Song Mingyan was a little nervous. It had been three years since they last met, and he wondered if Mian'er would blame him.

But wherever she went, he would bring her back.

It's okay to be angry, but I can't abandon him.

Song Mingyan asked softly, but Yun Ji frowned: "Miss returned to Yangzhou a few days ago, saying she was going back to visit relatives. I don't know when she will return."

Visiting relatives?

What bad luck!

Song Mingyan's first reaction was that something was amiss: "Did Mian'er go back alone?"

Yunji shook her head: "Miss left with Heyue, just like me, except that Heyue came to your side later."

Speaking of this, Yunji felt a little strange. She had known the young lady since childhood and was very familiar with everything in Yangzhou, while Heyue had only just come to the young lady's side. When did the young lady start to trust her so much?

Yunji wasn't jealous. She was happy as long as her mistress was well treated. However, although Heyue was more composed than herself, her mistress hadn't given any prior notice of her return. Her sudden departure seemed rather strange to Yunji.

But I can't quite put my finger on what's strange about it.

Song Mingyan gripped the carriage curtain tightly, his lips darkening: "I'll send someone to Yangzhou to check. If Mian'er is really there, I'll go to her side."

"Thank you very much, Young Master Wenshi." Yunji was extremely grateful. Although she did not know why Young Master Wenshi had come back to life, she knew that back then, Miss and Young Master Wenshi were a couple recognized by everyone, and they had grown up together as childhood sweethearts. Young Master Wenshi would never harm Miss.

Unable to deliver the letter, Jiang Mian returned to the courtyard in a daze.

She hid the key and letter in her hand, secretly hoping that she would find another opportunity.

Fortunately, Shen Ji hadn't found the key, so the outcome wasn't too bad. It was quiet outside. She took off her clothes and crawled into bed. Shen Ji hadn't come for several days, and she didn't know what he was busy with.

Jiang Mian was lost in thought. She hoped that he wouldn't show up again, as that would increase her chances of escaping.

Also, who was the person who spoke to Yunji in front of the Shen residence today?

She was afraid that the person was Shen Ji, so she didn't approach him rashly. Now that she thinks about it, it seems a bit reckless.

She could wait for that person to leave before handing the letter to Yunji, but if Shen Ji appeared halfway there and found her missing, he would probably find another reason to lock her up.

She was outnumbered and outmatched, making it difficult for her to resist him.

That day he said he would let her leave only if she fell in love with him.

Is it possible that if she pretends to be a jerk to him, he will relax and become complacent?

Jiang Mian didn't know, she just felt complicated.

The moonlight gently streamed into the room, and she slowly closed her eyes. Little did she know that shortly after she fell asleep, a figure suddenly emerged from behind the screen.

His tall figure cast a long shadow on the ground. He walked silently to the bedside.

The warm incense in the stove was burning slowly, just enough to make one sleep peacefully through the night.

A look of infatuation and fascination flickered in the young man's eyes. His fingertips gently traced her skin, and the sleeping woman let out a soft moan, but did not wake up.

The fingertips that had been resting on her brow slowly moved downwards, brushing across her delicate nose, and finally resting on her lips. He gently reached in and inserted something.

His fingertips inadvertently brushed against the soft flesh between the girl's lips, her eyes were almost red, and a bitter taste spread between her lips. She seemed to be in great pain and wanted to spit his finger out.

But the young man slowly withdrew his fingertip, and the silver thread attached to it was suddenly pulled off. He bent down and gently licked it with the tip of his tongue. Then, he slowly probed inside. The bitter taste spread between his teeth, but there was a smile in the young man's eyes.

Mian Niang could never leave him again.

The next day, Jiang Mian woke up feeling a bit warm all over. She looked down and saw a pair of hands covering her waist. Looking up, she saw a strong and powerful waist with beautiful and smooth lines. She was stunned, and the first thought that came to her mind was that every part of his body was as if it had been carefully sculpted by God.

Jiang Mian was somewhat stunned.

Then a mocking laugh came from above: "Mianniang, you can look openly now."

Jiang Mian's face instantly turned bright red.

He was caught peeping at her on the spot, which was quite embarrassing.

Jiang Mian propped herself up to sit up, but felt weak and sore all over. Her first thought was that this person had done something to her while she was asleep last night.

Wait, when did he arrive?

Jiang Mian turned around and looked at him, a hint of guilt in her eyes.

When she returned last night, he wasn't in the house yet, but he was sleeping peacefully here, which meant he must not have just arrived. Thinking of this, her heart suddenly started racing.

She quietly reached out and touched the mattress beside her. Last night she wanted to hide the letter, but every piece of furniture in the room was arranged by He Yue herself. Fearing something might happen, she left the letter and the key by her side, planning to find another place for it today.

Jiang Mian reached out and touched it, but found nothing.

"Is this what Mianniang is looking for?"

Suddenly, the young man in front of her produced a thin piece of paper from somewhere. His tone was languid and indifferent. What he had obtained was Jiang Mian's last hope.

Shen Ji lowered his eyes, his gaze seemingly devoid of emotion, yet Jiang Mian felt that he was doing it on purpose.

He deliberately let her leave, just to make her think that she was confident she could leave, but in reality, everything was under his control from beginning to end.

She involuntarily stepped back, finding him utterly terrifying.

"Mianniang hasn't spoken yet, are you looking for this?" Shen Ji smiled gently, his eyes more beautiful than ever before. He leaned closer, the scent of sandalwood permeating every pore of her skin.

His fingertips were icy cold as he gently brushed across her chin, and then suddenly gripped her tightly.

"Cousin, I was wrong." Tears fell unconsciously, one of them landing right on the back of his hand.

Jiang Mian knew how to appease Shen Ji and how to quell his anger.

As expected, Shen Ji released her chin, and the letter in his hand fell to the bottom of the bed. He pressed his lips to hers, his tongue stealing every breath from her lips. Jiang Mian was forced to kiss him, and subconsciously reached up to climb onto his chest.

He didn't have the key in his hand, which means he only got the envelope and didn't find the key.

She was in a daze last night and couldn't remember if she had put the two things together. If she was lucky enough to still have the key to get out, she could still think things through...

"Ugh..." A slight pain suddenly came from her lips. She looked up and saw Shen Ji's unfathomable pupils. She had a bad feeling. Sure enough, his hands, which were supporting him on both sides, reached back.

The set of keys she had hidden appeared before her eyes without warning.

She widened her eyes slightly, but Shen Ji smiled and reached out to control her waist, forcing her closer to him.

As she floated up and down, Jiang Mian felt the hand slowly moving downwards. The places where the fingertips brushed against felt like they had been scorched by fire. She didn't know what he was going to do.

Suddenly, an uncontrollable feeling surged through her body, and her mind went blank.

I only felt an unfamiliar touch on it.

She instinctively brought her knees together, but ended up trapping his arm between them.

Jiang Mian was somewhat annoyed and pushed him away in dissatisfaction.

Shen Ji slightly released her lips, lowered his eyes, and smiled faintly, as if he had seen something very pleasant.

"The medicine is finally working."
