Huo Churan lay in the dark dungeon.
Half-asleep, she heard footsteps approaching from not far away, an ominous sound of leather scraping against stone. Someone was slowly walking towards her.
All she could do was cower behind the door, trembling uncontrollably, listening to him getting closer and closer.
She knew perfectly well that it must be a jailer with a whip, ready to beat her!
But she had nowhere to escape and nowhere to hide.
Finally, the footsteps stopped. She knew he was standing outside the door, silent, with a long, pockmarked face and dead eyes.
Only then did she realize that her body was trembling uncontrollably, so she hugged herself tightly, trying to drive away the fear.
The door slowly opened with a creak, and the tip of the longsword pierced through...
She curled up in fear, repeatedly muttering, "Please, please, don't hit me anymore."
The sudden bright light made Huo Churan feel uncomfortable, so she quickly reached out to shield her eyes.
"Get up! Stop pretending to be dead!"
Upon hearing this, Huo Churan looked up and saw a man wearing a simple brown coat standing outside the door.
This person was none other than her ninth brother: Huo Jie.
A long scar ran across his face, which looked even more menacing in the firelight.
Standing behind Huo Jie were two Huo family guards.
"Ninth Brother!" Huo Churan said softly, "Please...please don't hit me anymore."
"Not hit you? Humph!" Huo Jie snorted heavily. "You betrayed your father, it's already more than fair of you not to kill you."
As he spoke, Huo Jie waved his hand, and the guards behind him strode forward, grabbed her wrist, and lifted her out of the haystack.
"Are we going to the city walls again?" Huo Churan couldn't help but wonder. "I'll use my life to blackmail Lin Mo and stop him from attacking the city!"
"No, no!" She pushed them away abruptly. "Don't force me, Ninth Brother, don't force me!"
"Forced you?" Huo Jie's face darkened. "You freak, deformed, disobedient bastard, born of a bitch; your heart is filled with jealousy and malice."
The laws of the world require you to bear the surname of the Huo family and wear the clothes of the Huo family, because your father could not prove that you were not a descendant of the Huo family, which is why he raised you.
But you betrayed my father!
Now, while you still have some use, you bastard, get out here obediently!
Just as Huo Churan was about to say something, a guard stepped forward, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "Miss Churan, your suffering is about to end."
Lord Yao has already led his troops to join forces with His Highness the Regent.
At this moment, His Highness is discussing how to rescue you.
I believe they will take action soon!
Upon hearing this, Huo Churan trembled.
Now that Lord Yao and the others have joined him, Sun Ruoxi and Su Qing'er are safe.
Lin Mo can go all out and attack the city!
"His Highness, he did it for me?"
“Yes!” the guard said in a low voice, “He said you are his queen, and he must…”
"No, it's not worth it!" Huo Churan shook her head. "I'm not worth it!"
"What are you muttering about? Hurry up and go!" Huo Jie stepped forward, and before she could react, her brother had already pulled away her hand that was trying to cover her face and slapped her hard across the face.
Huo Churan didn't remember falling, but when she came to her senses, she was already kneeling on one knee on the ground, feeling dizzy.
Huo Jie stood above her, bloodstains on his knuckles.
"Are you going to behave and obey, or do I need to discipline you again?"
Huo Churan had lost feeling in her ears. When she reached out to touch them, her fingertips were wet with blood.
And so she was led out of the cell, through the courtyard, and finally back to the city wall.
On the city wall, Huo Churan saw her father, whom she had not seen for a long time.
He was dressed in magnificent armor and wore a golden helmet, making him very conspicuous.
Behind him, several iron guards dressed in dark gray armor and covered with dark red cloaks surrounded him.
Upon seeing Huo Churan, Huo Minggao merely glanced at her with an expression of extreme disgust before slowly walking forward.
"Lin Mo!" Huo Minggao shouted, "Considering our kinship, I will now give you a chance."
"Withdraw your troops! As long as you withdraw your troops and swear allegiance to me, we'll call it even."
Only then did Lin Mo finally meet his cousin.
This person has loose skin and is thin and short.
I wonder if it's because he's always thinking about harming people that he's almost bald before he's even sixty.
He looked like... a weasel!
Lin Mo took a deep breath, spurred his horse forward, and stopped just outside the range of the arrows.
"My dear uncle!" Lin Mo said coldly, "I don't want to waste any more words with you. Return my queen, and I will withdraw my troops. How about we leave each other alone?"
"Hey!" Huo Minggao laughed. "Didn't your princess leave the capital?"
“One more is needed!” Lin Mo said.
"Oh? You mean Chu Ran? If I'm not mistaken, nephew, nothing happened between you and her before, right?" Huo Minggao said. "Ha, I don't know if it's just the people under my command spreading rumors that you're no good."
Of course, it's also possible that Chu Ran's appearance is not good enough for you.
In short, since we have not consummated our marriage, nor have we undergone the proper rites and formal marriage ceremony, my daughter is not your queen!
Nephew, you can't take this person with you!
Speaking of which, your family is really impolite. You left without saying goodbye, sneaking away in the middle of the night, and even killed my guards.
"I haven't settled this score with you yet!"
"Then let's settle this properly!" Lin Mo said. "Uncle, you originally said you would send troops to support me in suppressing the Dongpango invaders. But why did the troops you sent to me suddenly turn around and attack my own troops in the middle of the battle?"
