Qin Liangyu rode her horse in circles to inspect the battlefield.
The surrounding land was rugged: the banks were slippery mud, gently sloping up the road.
Further east, the terrain becomes rocky and fragmented.
The hills are dotted with some trees, but most of the trees here have been felled, all done by the Vikings.
Before long, Qin Liangyu heard the distinctive war drums of the Vikings, her heart pounding in her chest to the rhythm, and cold sweat pouring down her forehead beneath layers of leather and steel armor.
She watched her generals riding back and forth on the battle line, shouting and gesturing wildly.
The Left Army was also mostly composed of cavalry, but they were not the elite cavalry of the Great Xia Dynasty; rather, they were more like a ragtag force.
They were light cavalrymen clad only in leather armor, large numbers of undisciplined soldiers, even peasants wielding sickles and rusty swords inherited from their grandfathers, and untrained boys gathered from the surrounding villages...
The Vikings were practically laughing themselves silly when they saw such a force.
"Is this the most elite force of the Regent of Great Xia?"
"A flock of lambs to the slaughter!"
Even the brave Bjorn was surprised by such an opponent.
"Perhaps this really is Great Xia's trump card," Bjorn thought. "Just like the English soldiers, utterly vulnerable!"
In the Great Xia army, the generals commanding the battle were also pale-faced.
"Has the Regent lost his mind? How could he let these poorly equipped and unprotected people lead the charge!"
He had no time to think carefully; the drumbeats grew closer, thumping and thumping, seeping beneath his skin and causing his hands to twitch.
Qin Liangyu drew her longsword, and in an instant, the enemy appeared in front of her, emerging from the hilltops and fields. They hid behind a wall of oak round shields and spears, shouting as they marched forward.
Damn it, look how many of them there are, General Wu thought to himself.
The bugle sounded, a mournful wail.
And so the battle began.
And as expected.
As soon as the battle began, the Great Xia's formation was broken.
From the very beginning, the battle devolved into a one-sided massacre.
The ragtag troops of the Great Xia couldn't even touch the hem of the Vikings' clothes before being swiftly killed by their axes.
Before the time it takes to drink a cup of tea is up, someone in the Great Xia army shouted, "We can't win! Run!"
The idea of escaping quickly spread throughout the Great Xia army.
As the first soldier dropped his weapon and fled to the rear.
The defeat became unstoppable!
Seeing this, Qin Liangyu, as the commander-in-chief, was not too surprised; on the contrary, everything was within her plan.
She raised her longsword high and shouted, "All soldiers, listen to my command! Charge westward!"
Then, three hundred personal guards brandished their long swords and led the way, protecting their commander.
"Charge west?"
"Is that a charge? That's just running away!"
They ran away as soon as the fight started?
But since the commander-in-chief had given such an order, all the generals of the Great Xia had no choice but to obey.
And so, the vanguard of the Great Xia army fled in a panic.
Upon seeing this, the brave Bjorn personally led the Viking army to flank them from both sides.
The left and right wings were the elite troops commanded by Bjorn's two younger brothers: "Snake Eyes" Sigurd and "Boneless Ivar".
They wielded Viking battle axes and gave chase with great courage.
Several hundred Xia warriors covered the rear, fighting and fleeing, but in an instant, they were all surrounded and killed by the Viking army.
Upon seeing this, the hero Bjorn was overjoyed. Pointing at Qin Liangyu, he exclaimed with a smile, "All Odin warriors, or those who serve the Great Xia Shield Maiden, will be richly rewarded."
Upon hearing Bjorn's words, the Viking warriors rushed forward in a frenzy to give chase.
Since Qin Liangyu and her personal guards rode on carefully selected fine horses, while most Viking warriors were infantry, their two legs could not keep up with four.
After running for ten miles, it disappeared from the battlefield.
However, the Great Xia vanguard also included many infantrymen and some cavalrymen with poor horsemanship. If they accidentally fell behind, they could only fight desperately, but how could their fighting strength compare to the ferocious Viking berserkers?
Everyone was killed by the Vikings.
The brave warrior Bjorn led his men in pursuit, and seeing that the Great Xia people they had killed were either old men or young boys, he was overjoyed: "Haha, the Great Xia Regent has no elite troops left by his side! Odin's warriors, give chase!"
Along the way, Bjorn discovered batch after batch of supplies scattered by the Great Xia army.
Upon seeing this, the Viking warriors burst into laughter with excitement.
"I never expected the Regent of Great Xia to be so weak! He suffered a complete defeat as soon as the battle began."
"Moreover, they even abandoned so many supplies while fleeing for their lives!"
Vikings are naturally fond of plundering, and now that they have seized so many supplies, they are all overjoyed.
Even the usually cautious Boneless Ivar was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of supplies.
"The people of Great Xia are nothing special!" he excitedly announced to his brother.
"Hehe, then hurry up and chase after them! If they capture the Regent of Great Xia, we can exchange him for more supplies!" Bjorn laughed loudly.
After chasing for a few more miles, the Vikings discovered that the Bactrian army was even more scattered, and they saw Qin Liangyu alone on horseback, standing on a hillside.
"This shield maiden? What does she want?" Bjorn, the hero, asked with some surprise.
Bjorn, riding his fine horse and wielding a battle axe, led the way, eager to investigate.
When Qin Liangyu and the others saw the Viking army rushing in, they immediately spurred their horses down the earthen slope.
As the brave Bjorn stepped onto the earthen slope, the sight before him froze his heart instantly, as if his entire body had been thrown into a cold cellar.
What he saw were rows of elite warriors from the Great Xia Dynasty, who, like silent ghosts, were arranged in perfect formation, their silence chilling.
