Chapter 347 Arrival?

Two divine servants rushed out like the wind to scout the ruins, but they soon returned in haste.

Tomon decisively halted the advancing procession and immediately dispatched five or six divine servants to jog forward.

At this moment, Lin Mo also noticed the unusual sight in the distance. The flickering firelight illuminated the towering chimneys, the flames appearing particularly dazzling in the night.

We were not the only visitors.

A complex mix of emotions, like a coiled snake, slowly entwined within Lin Mo, preventing him from finding peace.

Suddenly, a sharp neighing of horses pierced the night sky, followed by the panicked cries of the servants of the gods.

However, the battle seemed to have lasted only a short time before it ended abruptly. A servant of the gods returned, panting, his face filled with astonishment and confusion: "There was only one person, an old man, and a horse."

Upon hearing this, Tomon loudly commanded in the ancient language, and his servants dispersed to surround the front, while the rest of his men patrolled between the houses to ensure that no one was hiding in the weeds or among the rocks.

The servants of God crowded toward the roofless house, jostling each other toward the fireplace.

The smoke from the broken branch the old man used to start a fire seemed to outweigh the heat, but even a little warmth was comforting on such a stormy, rainy night. Two servants pushed the old man to the ground and searched his belongings, while another took his horse.

"Who exactly are you people?" the old man asked.

He simply couldn't believe that, with his skills, he couldn't even withstand a few moves from these people.

At that moment, Tomon slowly walked over, mercilessly crushing the rotten apples at his feet, making an unpleasant cracking sound.

A sense of unease welled up in Lin Mo's heart. He knew that the old man's distinctive Xuanhua Palace attire had put him in the spotlight. "They will definitely try to harm this old man," he thought to himself.

Tomon's attitude had already made it clear that they had zero tolerance for the Faceless God's followers. Once encountered, they would be mercilessly slaughtered, determined to completely eradicate every last spark of the Faceless God left in the mortal realm.

"This is a world ruled by gods and Buddhas. The faceless god is a false god..."

If I want to integrate into their society, I have to eat with them, march with them, and fight with them!

Does this mean we must remain silent and helpless as they slit the old man's throat?

“A follower of a false god!” Tomon exclaimed. “You really don’t know who we are?”

The old man was taken aback at first, then seemed to understand something, and burst into laughter, "Hahaha!" he said, "A lackey of the evil god!"

“Now that you know, you cannot be allowed to live!” Tormon said. “This is the world ruled by the Master, and the faith in the Faceless God should not exist!”

With that, Tomon drew his longsword and walked over.

At the crucial moment, Lin Mo turned around and left.

Outside, Lin Mo encountered a guard arranged by Tormon.

The servant spoke a few words in ancient language, his finger gently pointing in the direction Lin Mo had just left, as if conveying some kind of message.

"Is he telling me to go back?" Lin Mo wondered to himself, but his face remained expressionless.

He did not choose to follow the instructions of the servant of God, but resolutely continued on his way.

He crossed a muddy patch of land and came to the lake. There, he found a leaning earthen wall, on the other side of which was a house that had mostly collapsed. He sat down and stared blankly at the raindrops lashing the lake.

Just then, a familiar figure appeared in his sight—it was Zhao Yue'er!

“I feel like I’ve been here before!” she said, “but I can’t quite remember.”

"If you can't remember, don't think about it!" Lin Mo said.

"Okay, as long as you like it!" Zhao Yue'er gently pulled Lin Mo's hand, and the two snuggled together, as if the slight chill of the wind and rain could be dispelled. "Did you hear that? There's a sound over there, like a cry coming from deep within!"

"Perhaps it's the sound of thunder in the distance; on stormy nights like this, thunder is a common occurrence."

“They say it’s shouting,” Zhao Yue’er sighed softly, pointing to the fortress standing in the storm in the distance. “Look at that, standing alone on the rocky island, surrounded by raging winds and rain. Doesn’t it look just like the legendary ghostly place?”

Lin Mo followed her finger and saw the fortress looming in the night, like a sleeping giant trembling under the lash of wind and rain. The surrounding lake water was whipped up by the rain, creating layers of white waves that crashed against the rocky island with a deafening sound, truly giving off a sinister and terrifying feeling.

“We can go over and take a look,” he suggested. “We’re wet enough anyway, it can’t get any worse.”

"Swimming? Swimming in a storm?" she laughed. "Trying to trick me into taking my clothes off, Lin Mo?"

"Why would I need to lie to you for that?" he replied playfully.

"You're a bad guy!" Zhao Yue'er blushed.

Just as the two were chatting, a servant with a furrowed brow appeared above them. "Lin Mo, Tomon is looking for you!"

Lin Mo's brows furrowed as he slowly stood up, with Zhao Yue'er following closely behind.

The two passed through the dilapidated house, its roof long gone, and arrived at a somewhat empty space. There stood Tommon, quietly, beneath a tree that had stubbornly grown from the floor of the hall; his figure appeared particularly lonely in the dim light.

Those who had been captured knelt before the fireplace, like lambs to the slaughter, helpless and desperate.

All around, a circle of divine servants held longswords, their tips gleaming coldly, as if ready to stab the innocent prisoners at any moment. Tomon saw Lin Mo and his companion approach but remained silent.
