Chapter 386 Each one is more difficult than the last!

She led Lin Mo to the second floor, where a waiter with a birthmark on his face brought over a wooden bathtub and began carrying buckets of water upstairs.

"You've traveled a long way, why don't you take a shower first?" the girl suggested.

"Thank you!" Lin Mo nodded in thanks. "When will Iria arrive?"

"Haha, what a question! What, you want her to help you take a bath?"

"Holy crap, how could you interpret it like that!" Lin Mo said with an embarrassed expression.

"Hehehe," the girl covered her mouth and laughed, "Well, the Transmigrators' Guild has already made all the arrangements, so you can just stay here in peace for a while. Okay, I won't disturb your bath anymore!"

After the girl left, Lin Mo climbed into the bathtub, scrubbing his elbows while recalling the faces of Sun Ruoxi and the others.

When the water cooled down, Lin Mo felt clean enough. He put on the clothes he had just taken off and tightened the belt around his waist.

I feel so refreshed after taking a bath.

The Transmigrators Guild's arrangements did not restrict Lin Mo's activities.

At the same time, Lin Mo thought to himself that instead of waiting idly at the inn, he should go out and find out some information himself.

So he left the inn alone.

Walking through the intricate streets of the capital, perhaps because of his bad mood, Lin Mo turned a corner and found himself in a dead end.

This is a muddy little courtyard. In the corner of the courtyard, three low stone wells stand quietly, and three fat pigs are rooting around the wells, as if they are searching for something.

One of the pigs happened to look up and saw Lin Mo's unfamiliar face, and immediately screamed, the sound echoing in the quiet alley.

The sudden scream attracted the old woman drawing water. She looked up at Lin Mo, her cloudy eyes filled with suspicion and wariness. "Young man, what are you doing wandering around here? What do you want?"

Lin Mo composed himself and replied, "I... I was looking for the Hourglass Inn. I accidentally took the wrong turn."

The old woman nodded slightly and pointed in the direction she had come from, saying, "Go back the way you came, turn left at the end, and you'll see the Hourglass Inn."

"Thank you." Lin Mo thanked him softly, then turned around and slowly walked back along the path he had come from.

However, at the corner of the road, he suddenly stopped and bumped into a figure hurrying by. The impact caused the other person to lose his balance and fall on his backside in the mud.

"Please forgive me, I didn't notice you." Lin Mo quickly lowered his head and apologized sincerely. Although his voice was low, it conveyed a sense of guilt and sincerity.

The other person's figure gradually came into view; it was a thin boy. He was frail, like a scarecrow in the wind, his sparse, straight hair fluttering across his forehead, making him appear especially lonely. And beneath one of his eyes, a stye stood out conspicuously.

"Are you hurt?" Lin Mo asked with concern, reaching out a hand to help the fallen boy up. But the boy didn't seem to want to accept his kindness. He used his heels and elbows for support, struggling to move backward as if he were avoiding some terrible plague.

Although he was only eleven or twelve years old, his attire was extremely inappropriate for his age. He wore heavy chainmail, as if carrying the burden of an adult; and behind him was a longsword, its blade tightly wrapped in a leather scabbard, as if ready to be drawn at any moment.

Such attire appears so out of place on a child of this age, yet it also conveys a sense of inexplicable sadness.

"Have we... met before?" Lin Mo's voice revealed a hint of doubt. His gaze fell on the slightly immature face in front of him. The face seemed to have an indescribable sense of familiarity, yet it was like a blurry outline in the fog.

A flicker of panic crossed the boy's eyes. He seemed struck by Lin Mo's question and suddenly appeared somewhat at a loss.

He stammered as he tried to explain, but it sounded like he was making excuses for himself: "No, no... I don't know you, you must have misunderstood. I... I didn't see you, really, I was just... looking where I was going." His voice trembled slightly, clearly trying to hide his unease.

He spoke as he hurriedly stood up, as if eager to escape the uncomfortable situation. His words were filled with confusion and urgency: "Please...please forgive me, I really didn't mean to offend you."

"I was just... just watching my step, yes, I was looking at my step." He repeated this sentence, seemingly trying to prove that he posed no threat to Lin Mo.

Then, as if he had made up his mind, he turned around and strode away in the original direction, leaving Lin Mo standing there alone, watching his receding figure, a strange feeling welling up in his heart.

This incident aroused great suspicion in Lin Mo. However, he knew that openly arresting children in the bustling streets of the capital would only cause greater chaos and panic.

I saw him outside the city gate this morning, and he realized it.

I think I've seen this somewhere else before. Where was it?

The next second, Lin Mo suddenly found a note in his hand. "Damn, it's that guy from earlier!"

"Have I been recognized?" Lin Mo thought anxiously.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. Then, he slowly unfolded the note, which read: "If you wish to save your three wives, please come to the Imperial Temple in the west of the city!" This short sentence struck him like a heavy hammer.

Lin Mo clutched the note in his hand, his emotions unable to calm down for a long time.

After a moment's thought, he resolutely headed west of the city.

Stepping into this imperial temple, which had long since fallen into ruins, Lin Mo's gaze wandered among the broken walls and finally settled on that lonely wooden chair.
