"Friend? You look very sad. Do you miss your family?" The dwarf gently patted Lin Mo's hand. "Don't worry, Amaterasu will light your way and guide you to find them. She will protect her safety."
"I hope you're right," Lin Mo said.
"It can't be wrong." The short man bowed. "I need to rest now. I wish you all the best!"
"I wish you well too!" Lin Mo said.
The dwarf bowed again and staggered upstairs.
After he left, Lin Mo remained seated at the table, sipping a glass of diluted liquor.
Lin Mo likes to drink alcohol because he believes it helps calm his mind.
"What's next?" he asked himself.
Lin Mozhen did not want to see his subordinates start another war with the Great Xia Emperor.
Or perhaps, deep down, Lin Mo didn't want to witness the capital city turn into a sea of blood.
Given the strength of figures like Xiang Yu, Bai Qi, and Yue Fei, the rabble recruited by Zhao Shu was simply no match for them.
In Lin Mo's mind, a series of tragic and realistic scenes gradually emerged.
The capital city, once a prosperous metropolis, is now a ruin. Zhao Shu is holed up inside the fortified walls of the palace, while outside the city, the streets are scarred, the houses are burned, and the city gates are broken.
The air was thick with the smell of burning, and occasionally a few wild dogs wandered among the ruins, cautiously following the hoofbeats of warhorses, trying to find a glimmer of hope in the shadow of death.
Those once vibrant lives have now turned into swollen, rotting corpses, blooming like pale lotus flowers on this ruin.
Lin Mo's heart felt as if it were being tightly gripped by something. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to really go down that path; he simply couldn't face it!
The crowd in the hall thinned out.
Lin Mo gently tugged at the paper-thin pancake in his hand, his gaze casually wandering around. The shop was bustling with noise, but all he caught were snippets of conversation about the Great Xia Emperor.
A local man who looked like a shoemaker was recounting a palace secret in a weathered yet vivid voice: "Have you ever heard? The Emperor of Great Xia, that all-powerful monarch, didn't even spare his own nephew. That is, the elder prince!"
The diners at the next table chimed in, one of them adding, "That's right. I heard it's because that prince advised His Majesty to mend relations with the former regent, Lin Mo."
Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper waved his rag as if to drive away the invisible filth, and said indignantly, "Is such advice the behavior of a loyal minister? To betray one's oath and sell out one's country, how can such scum be worthy of living in this world? If it were me, I would tear him to pieces as a warning to others!"
He angrily spat into the fire, as if trying to burn away all his dissatisfaction and anger.
Lin Mo subconsciously turned his head and glanced at the shopkeeper, but ultimately held back.
He threw down the bread and brushed the crumbs off his pants.
He'd had enough.
That night, Lin Mo dreamed that he had returned to the far north.
All warmth was stripped away, and a thick chill surrounded me.
Something, something evil and terrifying, was moving in the darkness of the green light, heading straight for Zhao Yue'er.
He wanted to protect her, but his limbs were cold and stiff, and he didn't even have the strength to lift his hand.
Immediately afterwards, Zhao Yue'er's body was pierced, and blood gushed out.
Suddenly, Lin Mo realized that the person on the verge of death was not Zhao Yue'er, but Sun Ruoxi.
"I have let them down..." Lin Mo sighed subconsciously as he woke up from his dream.
The next day, when Iria found Lin Mo in the lobby, Lin Mo was drinking the "beer" developed by the Hourglass Inn!
"You've finally arrived!" Upon seeing Iria, Lin Mo quickly stood up and greeted her.
Unexpectedly, Iria took a step back, looking at Lin Mo warily, and asked, "Who are you? Are you one of my fans? Sorry, I can't give you an autograph!"
Lin Mo immediately scoffed, "What's going on?"
However, a few seconds later, he realized, "I am not Lin Mo now, but a man heading to the capital to join the army!"
So he repeatedly said, "I'm sorry, I've mistaken you for someone else!"
"It's alright! I'm naturally beautiful, it's perfectly normal for me to attract attention!" Iria said. "By the way, are you here to join the army too?"
"Okay!" Lin Mo nodded.
"Hehe, that's ambitious!" Iria chuckled. "The checks in the capital have been really strict lately. If you really want to join the army, you can use this to cut in line!"
Lin Mo accepted the letter handed to him, then smiled slightly, "Thank you!"
This girl, using this method to send messages, is really something else! Lin Mo thought to himself.
With such a poor performance, even a blind man could tell they knew each other before!
However, the little girl was always acting strangely, so Lin Mo had no choice but to play along.
After taking the letter, Lin Mo turned around and went back to his room. He took out the letter and read it, and immediately frowned.
The letter stated that, according to information gathered by the Transmigrators Guild, Sun Ruoxi and Huo Churan were not in the capital and seemed to have been secretly escorted to Jidong by the Emperor of Great Xia.
Su Qing'er, on the other hand, remains imprisoned in the capital!
"Fuck your mother!" Lin Mo couldn't help but curse.
He didn't need to look further to guess. That Zhao Shu had deliberately imprisoned Sun Ruoxi and the others in different places. Even if Lin Mo was incredibly powerful, it was impossible for him to rescue them all at once from different locations.
"This idiot is determined to fight me to the death!" Lin Mo thought to himself.
