Chapter 55 is all?

One by one, defensive fortifications appeared at the foot of Tianyue Mountain.

Guo Wenlong's soldiers are stationed on the border year-round and are highly skilled in building outposts, city walls, and other structures.

In just two days, a two-meter-high wall made of rubble appeared outside the camp.

Beyond the stone wall, there was a ditch. Although not as deep as a real town ditch, it was the limit.

The stones used to build the walls were sourced locally. The weathered rocks were covered with patches of pale lichen, and green moss swayed gently, giving the walls a sense of antiquity, as if they were a fortified enclosure built by our ancestors.

"Therefore, we must hurry up and prepare, set up spikes and pits, cover the stone walls with caltrops, and repair any cracks completely," Bai Qi ordered. "Qin Zhixing, I need to rely on your keen observation skills."

Take your men and set up a perimeter around the camp. Have them hide behind the rocks and report immediately if any unidentified objects approach.

Qin Zhixing accepted the order and went ahead.

"To address our water problem again, we must store far more water than we currently need," Bai Qi said. "I order that we begin digging reservoirs immediately."

The arduous labor may cause discontent among the soldiers in the short term, but in the end, it will be a matter of life and death for us.

"Let Guo Jinglue's men handle this matter!" Lin Mo announced.

Soldiers with criminal records, if they aren't allowed to do this kind of rough work, who will?

"Guo Wenlong? Where is he?"

General Guo Wenlong, the Curtain-Roller, no longer holds any real power. His daily job is to stand guard outside Lin Mo's tent with a weapon, acting as a doorman!

Hearing Lin Mo's call, he rushed in.

"Your Highness, you wanted to see me?"

"Have your men dig reservoirs, you hear me?" Lin Mo said. "Oh, and dig toilets too! Build stone walls, wooden fences, ditches, and other defensive fortifications."

Guo Wenlong frowned. "All of them?"

“Yes!” Lin Mo said firmly.

Guo Wenlong sighed inwardly, then bowed helplessly and left.

"According to our scouts, the Dos army is only a day's journey away," Bai Qi continued. "If the intelligence is correct, the Dos army that has come this time numbers as many as 80,000! Moreover, they are all elite troops!"

"Haha, this time I can finally have a good, satisfying battle!" Xu Chu exclaimed excitedly.

Lin Mo gave Xu Chu a meaningful look, then said, "We're about to have a decisive battle with the Doss people. Everyone, go and rest to conserve your energy!"

~~~
Late that night, a light rain began to fall.
The rain fell all night and showed no signs of stopping by daytime the next day.
When the scouts reported that Dos's army was several miles away, Lin Mo's troops were already in full battle array, ready for a decisive battle.
In terms of military strength, the Doss had assembled an army of 80,000.
Lin Mo's side had two hundred heavily armored cavalrymen of the Tang Dynasty, more than 1,900 Hu-style archer cavalrymen, three thousand spearmen, more than six thousand shieldmen, 1,800 ordinary archers, and nearly a thousand light cavalrymen.
The total strength is around 15,000 men.
In comparison, it seems that the Great Xia Dynasty is at a significant disadvantage.
Lin Mo has already accumulated over 50,000 points, but he is not in a hurry to exchange them for soldiers.
Since we have a cheat code, we must make good use of it.
At the moment of the decisive battle, suddenly sending a wave of heavily armored Tang Dynasty cavalry behind the Dos people would be far more effective than a head-on confrontation.
As night fell, the rain still hadn't stopped.
A strong wind, mixed with drizzle, lashed at Lin Mo's face. He kicked his spurs and arrived at the camp gate.
Beside him, Xu Chu wiped the rain from his face and muttered curses at the weather.
Ahead, a hunting horn emitted a trembling sound, its audibility muffled by the swirling rain.
"They're here!" Bai Qi announced.
Time passed slowly, and torches flickered in the distance as the Dos army advanced silently. The defenders could clearly see their torches arranged in many rows, all heading towards the same spot.
Before long, the Doss army had quietly arrived.
The scene before them was astonishing. On the Dos Grass Sea, they could see countless red dots created by torches blooming like red flowers or extending like long snakes, and occasionally, some places would be engulfed in raging fires.
"That's quite clever of you to choose to fight at night!" Bai Qi said. "In this way, our horse archers will be unable to take advantage of their mobility!"
Lin Mo frowned. It was impossible to have a horse archer holding a torch in one hand and drawing a bow to shoot arrows in the other.
"Spearmen, form squares!" Lin Mo decisively announced. "Hold the gate!"
With Tianyue Mountain at its back, the Great Xia region doesn't need to worry about being attacked from behind.
However, this also means there is nowhere to retreat.
As night fell, the sky grew dark, and the oppressive atmosphere foreshadowed an impending storm.
Suddenly, a dazzling light ripped through the clouds, the fangs of lightning piercing the eastern hills. In that instant, all the defenders witnessed a scene below that was like a nightmare in broad daylight:
Ahead, a dense mass of black figures thronged. The enemies were tall and muscular, clad in leather armor, with bronze skin, pale brown eyes, and black hair. In the firelight, their faces appeared even more ferocious.
"Enemy attack!" Bai Qi shouted, and thousands of enemies began to surge across the trench.
Lightning flashed across the valley as torrential rain poured down relentlessly.
The next second, a dense rain of arrows, like a torrential downpour, was aimed at the Xia people, but they were all blocked by the ancient rocks, with only a very few hitting their targets.
The attack on the Xia people had begun, but the defenders did not respond at all, nor did they fire a single arrow back.
