Lin Mo suddenly had a flash of inspiration and thought of something.
So he said, “My Fan Kuai! Lately, I have been having nightmares every night, dreaming that the enemies I killed have brought demons and monsters to kill me. I am very afraid and cannot fall asleep at night.”
Xu Chu asked, puzzled, "My lord, then what?"
Lin Mo's lips twitched slightly. "Then I heard Mr. Yao tell a story. It is said that after Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, ascended the throne after the Xuanwu Gate Incident, there was also such a situation!"
So he ordered his two generals, Qin Shubao and Yuchi Gong, to stand guard at the gate with weapons, so he could sleep peacefully.
If Xu Chu knew the word "damn," he would definitely be "damn" at this moment.
"So, my lord, is this why you want your subordinates to stand guard outside the gate?" Xu Chu asked, frowning.
"Indeed, my Fan Kuai! Your bravery is so great that even evil spirits would be intimidated by you!" Lin Mo praised. "It's no exaggeration to say that if you were just a little more powerful, you could be among the immortals!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Xu Chu immediately became smug upon hearing this. "It's rare for my lord to praise me so highly. From today onwards, I will guard the gate every step of the way!"
"Hahaha!" Lin Mo thought to himself with secret delight.
"But...something doesn't seem right!" Xu Chu blinked again. "My lord, you just mentioned that Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin, sent two generals! Why are you sending me alone? Are you trying to saw me in half?"
"Damn it!" Lin Mo's mind raced. "I'll write a letter immediately, ordering my General Curtain-Raising to Xichuan City!" He replied, "Until then, Zhao Zhen will handle it for you!"
If Zhao Zhen knew about this conversation in the future, he would definitely thank Xu Chu's entire family!
With Xu Chu guarding the door, Lin Mo felt much more at ease and slept soundly.
Lin Mo had originally thought of following the example of Liu Bei, the big-eared bandit, and sharing meals and sleeping quarters with Xu Chu, becoming like brothers.
But Lin Mo had heard Xu Chu's snoring before, and it was something no ordinary person could tolerate! So he dismissed the idea, "This can't be blamed on me, can it?"
Upon learning of the negotiation process, Yao Guangxiao immediately wrote a memorial for Lin Mo, which read: "Your Majesty, I, your subject, report that General Jianwei Li Liang, under the pretext of delivering military provisions, has privately mobilized border troops to Shu."
However, upon arriving in Shu, I discovered that all the military rations had been privately resold by Li Liang, who was enriching himself.
Moreover, after his plot was exposed, he even hired a traitor from Xuanhua Palace to assassinate me.
Fortunately, thanks to Your Majesty's favor, I am unharmed.
Therefore, your humble servant submits this memorial to Your Majesty, requesting the extermination of the entire clan of the Prince of Shu of the Great Xia, for the crimes of treason, disobedience, and attempted assassination.
This preemptive memorial completely absolved the author of the crime of attacking Li Liang, while simultaneously accusing Li Liang, making it extremely shrewd.
Li Liang, on the other hand, was a very capable general; he knew nothing about these fancy tricks.
He was furious at being ambushed by Lin Mo in such an unsportsmanlike manner, so he wrote a memorial to the throne.
But here's the question: what kind of writing could a military general possibly produce?
The memorial was written in a very awkward and unnatural way; from beginning to end, it was all about cursing the King of Shu as a traitor and threatening to kill him with a knife.
Thus, two urgent memorials, delivered by express courier, arrived in Wei Maozhen's hands one after the other.
The Empress, upon seeing this, felt a surge of inexplicable rage. "This Li Liang, is he a pig-brain?! He...he actually hired assassins to try and kill the King of Shu!" she roared. "Li Hu...General Li, can you explain yourself to me?"
The Empress certainly had reason to be angry. Couldn't she hire an assassin herself? Couldn't the entire treasury of the Great Xia Dynasty afford such a small sum?
You're acting like a lunatic, acting on your own initiative and attempting an assassination?
However, the Li family is now in a desperate situation. If this matter cannot be resolved, the Li family will definitely be abandoned by the Empress, and they will be lucky to escape extermination.
As for Li Hu, he never expected this either.
Before leaving, Li Liang repeatedly instructed him not to let the people from Xuanhua Palace take action unless absolutely necessary!
Li Liang took it to heart and carried it out.
However, Tang Ying, who considered herself extraordinary, wanted to see the assassination target in advance.
Li Liang thought to himself, "Xuanhua Palace is such a powerful assassin organization, and Tang Ying is one of the top experts in Xuanhua Palace."
The problem was that neither he nor Tang Ying expected to encounter such a reckless man as Xu Chu, who had agreed to negotiate but then started attacking them at the slightest disagreement.
Throughout the entire process, Tang Ying didn't utter a single punctuation mark, yet she still got cut!
What I didn't expect was that Xu Chu was so fierce!
He almost lost his life.
"Your humble servant...does not know!" At this moment, Li Hu could only feign ignorance.
"I am losing patience with your Li family!" Wei Maozhen said angrily.
Upon hearing this, Li Hu felt a chill run down his spine. "She was talking about your Li family... not you, Li Hu!"
So he kept kowtowing, "Your Majesty, I deserve to die! Please grant me some time..."
Wei Maozhen ignored him and shouted sharply, "Get out! Get out!"
Li Hu immediately scrambled out of the imperial study.
For the rest of the day, Li Hu was in a daze. He didn't know when he left the palace or when he got into the carriage.
Did they eat? Who did they encounter?
When he came to his senses, he realized it was already late and he was walking up the stairs.
I entered the room as if I were in a daze, lay down on the bed, and suddenly felt so sleepy and tired that I couldn't even drink water.
He then gave instructions to his servants and went to sleep.
Li Hu dreamt that the Empress ordered the extermination of the Li family, and in the dream he kept begging for mercy. Suddenly, a strong hand covered his mouth, like a smooth, warm, and solid rock.
