Chapter 6 The Moon Is Not Seen "Are you really willing to kill me?"...
"Who are you?" someone asked.
The man grew a little impatient with the questioning. "Well, only they themselves know the truth about what's going on between them."
One monk lamented, "The phrase 'former close friend' sounds full of regret even from an outsider's perspective."
Fu Yunyao stood on the corridor in front of the inn, leaning against the railing, listening to the conversation of the cultivators downstairs. The veil of her bamboo hat completely concealed her figure.
This was the scene that Su Fuying saw when she opened the door.
Her hand rested on the railing, pale as she tapped it lightly with her fingertips. She listened casually to the monks below speculating about the reasons for their broken relationship, seemingly unconcerned.
Su Fuying hadn't expected to see her here. Her instinct was to avoid her, but at that moment, the jade slip at her waist lit up.
"Fuying, I just learned from Yu Bai that there's a problem with the South China Sea barrier. How are things on your end?"
Wen Ci's voice came from the jade slip. Su Fuying subconsciously looked at the person on the side to see their reaction. She seemed not to have heard the voice transmission and did not move.
"Fuying?" Receiving no response, Wen Ci spoke again.
Su Fuying withdrew her gaze, took the jade slip, and walked out, saying, "I'm fine."
"Really? Yu Bai said that a lot of magical beasts have gathered over there, and the situation is very critical."
Su Fuying: ?
She thought for a moment and realized that Shi Yubai probably didn't want him to go to Yaotai Realm to look for someone again, so he made up an excuse to call him away. However, if Wen Ci rushed over to her side, he would most likely run into Fuyun Yao directly.
She sighed and helped Shi Yu and Bai Yuan lie.
The monks below had already compiled the reasons for their falling out into thirty-second place.
“I think it was Fu Yunyao who was controlled by demonic energy and killed someone who entered the Linlang Secret Realm with her. What was that person’s name… Jiang Wanyin? She was a genius who cultivated both formations and magic, and she was also a friend of Wen Ci and the others. Have you forgotten? After Fu Yunyao came out of the Linlang Secret Realm, her relationship with Sword Master Rangchen became even more strained, and they almost made it a fight to the death. I think she was suspicious back then.”
"Moreover, after Jiang Wanyin died, Fu Yunyao disappeared for a period of time. It is said that she was taken away by the Immortal Alliance. It was only after the Sword Master Chen strongly vouched for her that the Immortal Alliance released her. After that, Fu Yunyao lost contact with Wen Ci and the others. Later, the Sword Master Chen died in the South China Sea, and the Sword Master Chen recognized Fu Yunyao as its master. Naturally, the demonic energy on her body also disappeared."
Su Fuying was utterly amazed by their wild imaginations, but... she never expected that their casual guesses would actually hit a corner of the answer.
"Young Master Yao! Young Master Yao!" A maid rushed in from outside the inn, shouting Fu Yun Yao as she ran.
The cultivators who were talking loudly in the hall were startled. They looked up, their eyes falling on Su Fuying at the top of the stairs, and then on Fu Yunyao leaning against the railing. Their hearts were in turmoil.
The maid grabbed Fu Yunyao's hem and tried to kneel down, but she avoided her.
The maid's eyes reddened. "Please save our young lady, please, Young Master Yao!"
Fu Yunyao frowned slightly as she looked at the somewhat familiar person in front of her. "Someone from the Bai family?"
The maid nodded hurriedly, "It's a demon! There's a demon in our manor! He's captured our young lady!"
Fu Yunyao had a headache. Her gaze fell on Su Fuying at the top of the stairs. As if she had just noticed her, she comforted the person who was crying uncontrollably in front of her, "With the cultivators from the Nanheng Sect here, your young lady will be fine."
The maid shook her head repeatedly, "No, no, that demon..."
"There's demonic energy! Such heavy demonic energy!"
Her voice was drowned out by the cries coming from outside. Standing at the top of the stairs, Su Fuying did not hesitate and immediately rushed outside.
The maid took a breath and continued, "That demon insists on seeing the young master. He said, he said it's been ten years, and he wants to see the young master again day and night."
Ten years?
Fu Yunyao had a guess in her heart.
She looked up and saw that the once bustling and lively street had become desolate in no time, with suppressed sobs constantly coming from it.
The maid from the Bai residence was still tugging at her sleeve. Fu Yunyao sighed softly, helped her up, and spoke, her voice gentle yet reassuring.
Let's go.
Outside the street, Su Fuying looked at the sky filled with demonic energy, and was shocked.
This demonic energy almost made her hallucinate the battle in the South China Sea ten years ago.
"Young Sect Master, the demonic energy is too strong, and the demonic beasts outside the barrier have become much stronger. If this continues, the barrier may not be able to hold up."
Su Fuying composed herself. "Have your disciples do their best to maintain the barrier. Any cultivators in the city who still have any fighting spirit, come with me to the outside of the barrier to kill the demonic beasts. You are all smart people, and you should know that once the barrier is broken, none of us can escape."
Hearing her words, the surrounding cultivators gritted their teeth and joined the battle against the demonic beast.
"Young Sect Master!" A disciple stopped Su Fuying, who was about to leave the barrier. "This demonic energy seems to be coming from the Bai Mansion. Even if we kill all the demonic beasts outside the barrier, it won't make a difference."
Demonic energy lingered above the Bai Mansion.
Su Fuying closed her eyes briefly. "I believe her."
"Huh?" The disciple looked puzzled, as Su Fuying had already left the barrier.
A crescent-shaped flute appeared in her hand, and as she played it, the flute's melody entangled and strangled the demonic beasts, instantly piling up their corpses outside the barrier.
"Waaaaah—" The sound of a child crying came from outside the barrier. Su Fuying turned around sharply and saw a small child falling to the ground. The crying had attracted the magical beasts.
She spun around and landed beside the child, repelling the monster. She had just picked up the child with injured legs and hadn't even had time to put him into the barrier when another group of monsters attacked her.
"Young Sect Master!"
Sensing the demonic energy behind him, Su Fuying instinctively pulled the child into her arms.
A sword aura landed behind her, and the monster fell before its claws could even strike. Su Fuying turned around and stared blankly at the specks of frost that splashed up as the monster fell.
The sword energy of the barrier has always only attacked magical beasts that have stepped into the barrier; this is the first time it has broken free of the barrier.
After the dust sword energy knocked down the demonic beast, it merged back into the barrier.
Su Fuying composed herself and sent the child back into the barrier.
"Young Sect Master, the barrier is about to collapse!" The cultivators inside the barrier cried out as soon as they saw her.
The light of the barrier grew weaker and weaker, and the disciples maintaining it were beginning to struggle. Outside the barrier, more and more demonic beasts gathered, and cultivators were constantly being wounded and sent back into the barrier.
Just then, a silver sword flashed, forcing back the demonic beast that was approaching the barrier.
"Wen Ci..."
Wen Ci sheathed his spirit sword, his Kunwu Sect disciple robes fluttering in the wind. He glanced at her and said, "You maintain the barrier; I'll handle things outside."
He left those words behind and plunged into the horde of monsters without the slightest hesitation.
Su Fuying calmed herself down and summoned the Crescent Moon Flute again. The flute music blended into the barrier, and the barrier's light shone brightly once more.
"Fuying." Another figure landed beside her, and with a flick of his fingertips, seventeen divine wooden tokens appeared on the barrier, maintaining the precarious barrier.
He glanced around, but couldn't help asking, "Where is she?"
He didn't mention her name, but Su Fuying understood what he meant. The barrier had been maintained, so she stopped playing and replied, "She's at the Bai residence."
Shi Yubai frowned. "Bai Mansion? You don't mean the place with the heaviest demonic energy, do you?"
Su Fuying nodded. "There's no danger here for now. Why don't you... go help her?"
Shi Yubai scoffed, "Who wants to help her!"
Dense demonic energy spread from the Bai residence once more, but it lasted less than half a second before he cursed under his breath, "I didn't do this for her!"
In the blink of an eye, he disappeared. Su Fuying sighed softly and began playing the flute again.
The moment Fu Yunyao stepped into the Bai residence, she was certain that the demon hidden there was the same demon lord from the South China Sea. If it was him, then the sudden cracking of the barrier in Qiushui Town was not hard to understand.
She recalled what the young lady of the Bai family had said, "He exhausted half of his cultivation to expel the demonic energy from my body..."
Perhaps by then, the willow demon had already died, leaving behind the demon lord who occupied its body. He was hidden in the painting so well that even Chen Jian didn't notice.
"Young Master, please save my daughter!"
As Master Bai was about to kneel down, Fu Yunyao dodged his movement and walked towards Miss Bai's room.
As soon as the door was opened, demonic energy rushed out, prompting the user to draw the Dust Sword. The chilling sword energy repelled the demonic energy.
The moment the demonic energy dissipated, the scene before them distorted.
A wisp of demonic energy appeared behind Fu Yunyao, then transformed into a human form.
Fu Yunyao's eyes were blank. The Demon Lord curled his lips into a smile and leaned close to her ear, "Does this scene seem familiar? Enjoy the endless nightmare I've given you—"
Amidst the corpses of demons and cultivators scattered everywhere, only two figures remained, standing facing each other.
"Yun Yao, I'm sorry..." Demonic energy emanated from the girl in green, and her originally bright eyes turned dark red.
Fu Yunyao asked, puzzled, "Why?"
The girl in green smiled and said, "I am a demon."
“You…” Fu Yunyao reached out to grab her, but the girl in green avoided her.
She took a few steps back, and a formation appeared between the two of them.
Fu Yunyao frowned. "You know, this kind of formation can't control me."
"Is that so?" the girl in green sighed softly.
Until Fu Yunyao's sword was pressed against the chest of the girl in green.
The girl in green still smiled, "Yun Yao, but are you really willing to kill me?"
Fu Yunyao was puzzled. "Wanyin, are you being controlled?"
She remained silent, but with a smile, she condensed a ball of demonic energy from her palm and attacked Fu Yunyao's vital points.
Fu Yunyao couldn't dodge in time and barely avoided her vital parts. The Dust Restriction on her body was stimulated and began to spread, climbing up her neck.
Jiang Wanyin looked at the dark red patterns on her body, "Just as I thought."
Taking advantage of the fact that Fu Yunyao's restriction was activated, she summoned demonic energy and attacked her again.
Fu Yunyao looked up at her. The girl had a warm and familiar smile on her face, as if she would call out "Yunyao" again at any moment.
She closed her eyes, turned to the side to dodge Jiang Wanyin's attack, and the sword blade gleamed with a chilling aura.
"puff--"
Jiang Wanyin was stunned. She spat out a mouthful of blood and looked down as the icy sword tip pierced her body.
"You..." she began, coughing up blood. The demonic energy around her slowly dissipated, and her dark red eyes returned to normal.
Fu Yunyao drew her sword, and blood splattered onto her white robes and onto her face—warm blood that belonged to Jiang Wanyin.
Fu Yunyao reached out and caught the limp Jiang Wanyin in her arms.
The girl continued to cough up blood, her eyes red-rimmed. She forced a smile and spoke haltingly, "Yun... Yao, I'm... sorry..."
Looking at the girl trapped in the illusion, the Demon Lord clicked his tongue and leaned close to her ear, "How pitiful, the person you consider your best friend has always wanted to kill you."
Fu Yunyao held the girl in her arms, frowned, and spoke softly, her voice full of confusion reaching the Demon Lord's ears.
"Why do you think I should be reluctant to kill you?"
