Lao Liang is a program director of Shanghai Satellite TV and has produced several hit programs.
However, as he grew older, Lao Liang found that he was increasingly unable to keep up with the preferences of young people.
The shows he made himself had mediocre ratings and almost no online popularity.
He couldn't understand why no one was watching even though he had invited so many celebrities.
However, every time he returned home, he found that his wife and daughter were no longer watching TV. Instead, they were holding a tablet and watching programs, laughing happily.
"What are you two looking at?"
Lao Liang was feeling down after get off work. His boss told him to research the Moonlight platform. He had no idea what it was, though. Was it a short video app like TikTok?
Who knew that when I opened the door, I found my wife and daughter lying on the sofa, one holding a tablet and the other holding a mobile phone, watching them with great interest.
"What are you watching again? What's so good about the programs online?" Lao Liang was unhappy. This was his pride as a satellite TV media person.
A few years ago, online variety shows, online dramas, and online movies were all considered shoddy products in the public's mind.
But somehow, it seems that starting this year, more and more people are watching online variety shows.
The fear in his heart could not be expressed in words, and finally it turned into disdain in his words.
The daughter didn't even raise her head. This attitude alone made Lao Liang feel a little chilled.
Today's children are really harmed by the monster that is the Internet!
Instead, his wife waved at him with a friendly attitude and a smile on her lips that had not been seen for a long time.
Seeing this, Lao Liang felt itchy, as if he had been transported back to the time when he was pursuing her twenty years ago. The scent of her shampoo, traveling through time and space, lingered on his nose. He thought, perhaps tonight he could rediscover his youthful confidence.
"You don't know, 'Autumn of Music' is a very popular program recently. What is it?" She patted the back of her daughter's hand gently.
"A music show."
"Yes," my wife said, her smile growing even brighter. "Music shows are really interesting. There are young people and veteran singers on there. Finally, they're not singing those old songs that I've heard calluses on my ears. They're singing new songs! Look, I downloaded a lot of their new songs from the first two episodes and listened to them."
The passion that had just ignited in Lao Liang disappeared again at this moment.
He could only glance at his wife, then said in a somewhat impatient tone: "I haven't heard of it. Music show? Isn't that popular in Korea? It won't work in our country."
He lied. He had heard of it before, his colleagues would talk about it after dinner. But every time he heard the name, he never joined in their discussion.
Such a confusing name must be an online variety show!
He hates any online variety show!
"What's so good about this kind of show? It's just about hiring some traffic and buying some trending searches. Isn't this just sensationalism?"
"How can you say that?" His wife patted Lao Liang's thigh vigorously, her expression clearly reluctant. "This show is very popular. And you should know the producer of this show, the boss of Yiyang Entertainment! I think the quality of the several shows he produced this year is much better than your station!"
The boss of Yi Yang Entertainment?
Lao Liang finally realized that this was referring to Zhou Yiyang.
Of course he knew this person. Last year's "Youth Idol 101" could be said to be the most successful variety show on their station in the past five years.
Wasn’t he the one who created Moonlight?
"He did it." Lao Liang pursed his lips, but finally gave in to his job. "Then show me, did you watch it on that Moonlight?"
"Yeah," my wife nodded. "I browse it all the time now. You can listen to music and watch videos. They don't have a lot of videos, but the quality of their homemade variety shows is really high!"
Lao Liang really didn't expect his wife to have such a high opinion of the show: "Why are you acting like those star-chasing little girls? You seem to have never seen the world."
He glanced at the interface of the tablet, which was a preview of the third episode of "Autumn of Music" to be aired tonight.
Perhaps it was his pride that made him want to see how great this variety show that his wife called "invincible" was.
To put it another way, maybe he could learn some experience from it!
"What time will this program be updated?" Lao Liang asked with his nose puffed up.
"Eight o'clock." The wife poked the screen with her finger, and then the daughter next to her spoke.
"Mom, it's available now. It's updated early tonight!"
Lao Liang immediately shouted, "Look, these updates are not on time at all. They're not like our TV shows, which air at the scheduled time! That's why these online variety shows are so unprofessional!"
"Dad!" The daughter was already unhappy: "What nonsense are you talking about! Isn't it a good thing to update early?"
Lao Liang reacted and could only touch his nose awkwardly, then quickly changed the subject: "Hey, let's watch the show quickly. I want to see how amazing this show is that has you two so obsessed with it!"
"Mom, since Dad is watching it today, why don't we just project the screen over there? That way, the screen will be bigger and more comfortable to watch."
My wife nodded, agreeing that this was a good suggestion. "Okay, from now on we can watch this show every week. Huanhuan. I remember you told me last time that this show would be on for a year, right?"
"It's not a year-round show," Huan Huan said. She used to be a fan of Luo Chen, but since he joined Yi Yang Entertainment, she's become a fan of all of the company's artists. Therefore, she's very familiar with Yi Yang Entertainment's various projects. "It airs every quarter, but there's a month-long break between seasons. It should be a permanent show."
