Chapter 6: Keep me?

After walking out of the store and onto the street, I still didn't give up. I looked around like searchlights, hoping to see the woman again and trying to find her among the crowd.

Zhu Wei grew impatient and yelled at the top of his voice, "Don't look at him. He's acting so nervous so early in the morning. He's already gone!"

I was filled with disappointment and sighed, "Let's go."

We both got on the shared electric bike and rode back to school against the wind.

I was thinking about the guitar my father sent me, so I took it and returned to the dormitory.

Zhu Wei swaggered into the dormitory, carrying two packed portions of beef noodles. He placed the noodles on the table with a "pop" and shouted at the top of his voice, "I brought these for you. Eat them while they're hot. It's none of my business if they get cold."

Yang Bin and Xia Jie were originally sleeping soundly in bed, but they were disturbed by the noise and immediately got up.

Seeing the beef noodles, his eyes lit up and he didn't even bother to wash up. He took it and started to eat it ravenously, smacking his lips and sighing as he ate, "Viagra is still the best!"

When Zhu Wei heard this address, his face instantly darkened. He pretended to flip the table, his eyes widened and he yelled, "If you call me Brother Wei again, I'll flip the table!"

The two men quickly changed their words and flattered him, "Yifu, Yifu! Calm down, we were wrong."

I watched this farce from the side and couldn't help laughing out loud. I didn't get involved with them and just sat by the bed tuning my guitar.

My fingers gently plucked the strings, and the "ding ding dong dong" sound spread throughout the dormitory. The originally noisy room instantly became a little more comfortable, and I was immersed in it.

Time passed like quicksand, and in a blink of an eye it was already afternoon.

Carrying my guitar on my back, I unconsciously walked towards a quiet corner by the school lake. It seemed as if this place had been forgotten by the world, with almost no one in sight. Only the breeze blew across the lake, creating ripples.

I found a flat stone to sit on, and gently plucked the strings. A melody slowly flowed out, and I hummed along with the tune: "I understand, I can't let go of your love..." The song was melodious, but my mind was full of Ye Yao's figure. The sweetness and determination of the past flashed alternately. Those unspoken words and unfinished things were like fine needles, piercing my heart. My eyes gradually became sore and swollen, and I finally couldn't hold it back. The hot tears burst out and fell down.

The emotion of the song was brewing too much, and Lin Mengxi suddenly appeared in front of him as if she had fallen from the sky.

She was obviously dressed up carefully. The floral dress made her figure look graceful and her hair fell softly on her shoulders.

Seeing my miserable state, she raised her eyebrows slightly and let out a teasing smile: "What a promising young man, Lin Yu. You cried while playing guitar alone?"

"Where did you come from?"

Lin Mengxi crossed her arms, her chin slightly raised, and explained slowly, "I saw you walking past my dormitory building with your guitar on your back. I thought it was curious, so I followed you to take a look. Who knew you were so engrossed in what you were doing? I've been standing here for quite a while, and you didn't even notice me!"

After saying that, she tilted her head, with a look of inquiry in her eyes, as if she wanted to find out the hidden emotional wounds from my embarrassment.

"Really good music needs the support of emotions, understand? I was just too emotional just now."

Lin Mengxi shook her head, obviously not believing my nonsense, and said, "I don't understand." Then she sat down next to me and continued, "How about you sing a song for me? I think you play the guitar pretty well."

"You think I'm a street singer."

"Then will you sing or not?"

"Sing!"

Lin Mengxi thought for a moment and said, "Then... let's do it for the first time."

I frowned: "Change it."

Lin Lexi said with an "oh", "Does this song have a story?"

"Then let's be lucky."

I breathed a sigh of relief and whispered, "Okay."

My fingers slowly placed on the strings, and after tuning a few times, a fresh melody floated out. I tilted my head slightly and hummed softly: "It turns out that you are the luck that I want to keep the most..." My voice was a little hoarse, but still gentle.

Lin Lexi held her face with both hands, her brows relaxed, and she closed her eyes obediently, as if immersed in the singing of this exclusive afternoon. Listening quietly, I also gradually got into the mood. The fingers plucking the guitar strings became more and more agile, and the singing became more and more fluent, letting the notes drift by the quiet lake.

The song "Little Luck" ended, but the lingering sound still lingered in the air by the lake.

Lin Mengxi was the first to come back to her senses. Her eyes curved as she clapped her hands vigorously. The crisp applause seemed particularly loud in this quiet corner. She smiled and praised, "It sounds great!"

I deliberately joked, "Oh, why don't you give me some?"

Lin Mengxi was stunned at first, then laughed out loud, raised an eyebrow and asked, "You have no living expenses?"

I was immediately embarrassed, scratched my head, and hurriedly explained, "How is that possible? School has just started, and I have enough living expenses."

Lin Mengxi curled her lips, crossed her arms, and said with a half-smile, "Aren't all you guys like this? This morning I saw you guys ordering beef noodles with so much beef, and buying big bottles of coconut milk. You don't know how to save at all. I'm afraid your living expenses will run out before the end of the month."

I felt a little embarrassed by what she said and gave a dry laugh. "It's okay to improve the food occasionally. Besides, this is a treat for you, so we have to be generous."

Lin Mengxi rolled her eyes at me and said, "Just rely on your words. If you run out of money, come to me! Just sing for me every day."

After hearing this, I was really at a loss for words. I gave a dry laugh and responded, "You're going to support me."

Lin Mengxi blinked her bright eyes and said proudly, "You are still in my probation period. Once you pass, I will support you."

I thought to myself, I am the kind of person who lives off others, so I asked, "What the hell? Support me?" But Lin Lexi ignored me and stood up.

Seeing this, I hurriedly asked, "Why are you dressing up so beautifully?"

When Lin Mengxi heard this, her brows frowned instantly, and she glared at me and cursed, "You idiot!" After that, she turned around and walked away angrily, her steps quick and hurried, as if she had suffered a great injustice.

I didn't give up and shouted at the top of my lungs, "Are you going to treat me to dinner tonight?"

But Lin Mengxi acted as if she didn't hear me. She didn't even turn her head back and her figure quickly disappeared at the end of the path by the lake, leaving me alone there. I really couldn't figure out what this girl was thinking. She was fine with me, but why did she suddenly turn against me?

I helplessly put the guitar behind my back, reached into my pocket, touched the only hundred yuan left, and stroked the thin banknotes with my fingertips. I felt mixed emotions in my heart.

"Oh, it looks like I'll have to eat braised chicken again tonight."

When I thought about the six or seven hundred dollars I spent that night, my heart felt like it was being tugged at.
