Dad handed Mengxi a red envelope. Mengxi looked confused and then shook her head like a rattle.
The old lady said, "Girl, take it. This is a custom over there. Don't refuse."
I opened my mouth and said with a smile, "Mengxi, this is a gift from them for you. You can't refuse it."
Meng Xi nodded helplessly, then took the red envelope with both hands, bowed to her parents and said, "Thank you, uncle, thank you, aunt."
I patted her head and said, "Don't be so polite."
Afterwards, Mengxi wanted to buy cigarettes, alcohol and gifts for her parents, but was stopped and had to give up.
Dad and Mom were sitting in the car.
She said to us, "You guys go back. We still have to send something to your uncle, so we won't accompany you. Bring Mengxi home when you have time."
Meng Xi waved her hand and said, "Uncle and aunt, goodbye. I'll come when I'm free."
The old lady nodded and waved at us.
Then the car sped away.
Mengxi and I were walking on the road and saw a clean sloping lawn. We walked up and I lay there while Mengxi sat.
Meng Xi glanced at me, then lowered her brows and looked at the red envelope in her hand and said, "I feel something is wrong."
I smiled, looked at her, and said, "What's inappropriate?"
"After all, this is just the first time we've met. It feels a bit weird to just accept their red envelopes."
"That's because my parents like you."
Meng Xi sighed and said slowly: "When are you going to take me to your house?"
"Look at you, you almost cried while eating a very ordinary dish. I'm afraid it will be difficult for you to accept the "taste" over there."
"I can change my taste! You didn't take me to eat chili peppers, okay? And I ate a lot today. It really tastes good. I'll get used to it after eating it for a while."
I looked at Mengxi's aggrieved look and felt a little reluctant, but I also remembered what my father said and felt helpless. I was not sure if our relationship could withstand some things. Even if it was "taste", there was a world of difference.
Meng Xi lay down next to me, looked into my eyes and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm thinking about our future." I said a little dazedly.
Mengxi then boldly leaned over, kissed me, and left.
I licked my lips and said, "Come again if you dare!"
She glanced at me and said, "You wish."
After staying for a while, we returned to school and I sent her back to the dormitory building: "Okay, go upstairs, I'm going to play basketball later."
"Wait a minute." Then he ran up quickly.
I waited here for a while, and then Mengxi came over carrying an exquisite long box and a square box.
I frowned and said, "Another valuable item? I don't want it."
"Oh, I know, it's not anything valuable."
Then she opened the long box, revealing a bunch of long hair tied with a golden silk thread.
"Here, I cut it out a few days ago. Keep it with you. I'll be with you wherever you go. Open it and read it when you miss me."
Then he opened the square box, and inside was a silver bracelet and a braided bracelet.
"This is made of silver, so it's not expensive. I wanted to buy you a watch, but I knew you wouldn't accept it. You told me that last time. And this, I followed the tutorial and spent several days slowly braiding it. It also has my hair in it."
When I heard that, I was deeply moved and stunned for a moment. Then she gently put her hand on me.
She muttered, "This thing, when you wear it, proves that you already have a girlfriend, so that those girls who have feelings for you will stop pestering you. Although I haven't fully accepted it yet, you have passed the test, so I knitted it for you."
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry: "You are the only one who has poor taste in me. I am not that popular. I want to have three wives and four concubines."
Meng Xi glared at me and shouted, "How dare you!" Then she said softly, "Put that silver bracelet away. It looks weird on a boy. Our names are engraved on it. They're a pair. I have one too. Just keep whichever one you want..." After saying that, she stretched out her hand and showed me her bracelet.
I nodded, took what she was holding, and gave her a gentle hug, my eyes full of emotion: "It's great to have you."
She gently broke free, smiled and joked: "If you serve me well, I will treat you better."
Then he skipped away with his hands behind his back and waved.
I also waved, feeling mixed emotions.
Back in the dorm, I put the silver bracelet in my suitcase and the long box under my pillow.
Several people were not in the dormitory, so I called my old classmate Yang Ming. The phone rang for a while and then hung up. He must have something to do, so I sent him a text message.
"I'll send it to you today."
The other side sent a message: OK
I walked over, picked up my guitar, and sighed.
I played it softly, feeling very reluctant to let it go, but there was no way I could do it, I still had to "send" it away.
After a while, I put on my basketball uniform.
Then he packed it up, put it in a guitar case, walked to the store, filled in the address, and did a series of other things. Looking at it tightly wrapped layer by layer, he sighed helplessly, took a photo and sent it to Yang Ming, then left without looking back.
After counting, I only had a little over 80 yuan left, which I spent on buying breakfast for Mengxi and myself, and on things to do. Add to that the 2,000 yuan for living expenses from my father and the 1,800 yuan from Yang Ming in a couple of days, and the total was almost 3,000 yuan. I decided not to buy the notebook because I learned that it would only cost a few hundred yuan if I sold it, which was pointless.
