Chapter 63: Crisis comes, she is in danger
The cold war in the house continued, the air frozen like deep winter ice, every breath a stinging icy pain. Su Wanqing completely sealed herself in that hard, silent shell, resisting Huo Tingxiao's overbearing yet helpless confinement with utter indifference and alienation. Like a cold, shadowy figure, she silently moved within this vast, ornate cage, fulfilling her most basic "duties" without any emotional investment.
Huo Tingxiao grew increasingly restless, tormented by this silence, more suffocating than even arguments. He tried to escape by staying home later, even staying out all night. But no matter how late he stayed out, the pervasive, icy despair would instantly consume him as soon as he stepped through the door. He began to suffer from frequent insomnia, chain-smoking in his study, his brow thick with anger and fatigue.
He knew where the problem lay, and how deep the damage he had caused with his careless words was. But he was too proud to bow to anyone, and he didn't know how to make amends or redeem himself. He could only clumsily, and even more misguidedly, try to build a higher wall around her, as if that would keep her trapped by his side forever.
However, just as the resentful couple were torturing each other and deadlocked under the cold eaves, a real external crisis was quietly approaching them.
That afternoon, the sky was gloomy and looked like it was going to rain. As usual, Su Wanqing went to the service center to buy some daily necessities. Ever since Huo Tingxiao forcibly took her back, she'd been out less often. Even when she did, she kept her time short, avoiding any contact that might cause a "misunderstanding."
She lowered her head, quickly selecting the items she needed, wanting to buy them all as quickly as possible. She didn't notice that at the other end of the shelf, two men in ordinary clothes, but with unusually sharp eyes, were casually sizing her up and exchanging a secret glance.
After finishing her shopping, Su Wanqing walked out of the service center with her shopping bags, heading towards home. She had walked this road many times, and it was so familiar that she could find her way back even with her eyes closed.
However, today seems a little different.
She always felt as if someone was following her from behind. She quickened her pace, and the footsteps behind her seemed to quicken as well; she stopped to pretend to tie her shoelaces, and the footsteps disappeared.
An inexplicable sense of unease gripped her. She remembered Huo Tingxiao's previous warning and the malicious magazine article, and alarm bells rang in her heart. Without hesitation, she immediately took out her phone and wanted to call Huo Tingxiao. Even though they were in a cold war, he was the first person she subconsciously thought of when she encountered danger.
Just when she unlocked her phone!
A black van without license plates rushed up to her silently like a ghost and suddenly stopped!
The car door was opened with a crash!
Two strong arms suddenly stretched out from the car, one covered her mouth and nose, and the other strangled her waist. With great force, before she could even make any call for help, she was dragged into the car!
"Ugh!" Su Wanqing opened her eyes wide in horror and struggled desperately. The shopping bag and mobile phone in her hands fell to the ground with a snap!
But the other person's strength was astonishingly great, and the handkerchief covering her mouth and nose seemed to carry a pungent, dizzying smell! Her struggle quickly became powerless, and her consciousness began to blur...
The door of the van was quickly closed, the engine let out a low roar, and it drove away from the scene like an arrow, quickly merging into the traffic and disappearing without a trace.
The whole thing happened incredibly quickly, taking only a few seconds. On the ground, all that was left was a scattered shopping bag and a cell phone with a cracked screen.
Not far away, behind the bushes, a figure slowly emerged. It was Lin Weiwei. She looked in the direction the van had disappeared, a cold, smug smile on her face. She pulled out her phone and dialed a number. Her voice was sweet yet carried the chill of a venomous snake:
"We've got the goods. Keep an eye on her and proceed according to the plan. Remember, make her suffer a little 'accidentally', but don't kill anyone. She's still useful...especially, make sure she has some 'marks' on her body...worthy of a photo."
After hanging up the phone, Lin Weiwei turned around and left happily, her figure disappearing under the gloomy sky.
At that moment, in the headquarters, Huo Tingxiao was presiding over an important meeting. His phone, on silent mode, lay on his desk. A missed call from "Su Wanqing" briefly lit up on the screen, but it rang only once before being cut off, quickly drowned out by a constant stream of other messages and emails.
Huo Tingxiao rubbed his brows irritably. He hadn't heard a word of the meeting. His mind was filled with the cold, silent woman at home and the follow-up to this thorny task. He felt uneasy, a strange, intense anxiety that swept over him for no apparent reason, making him restless.
He subconsciously picked up his phone to check the time, but just before the screen went dark, he saw a flash of a missed call from Su Wanqing.
Just one ring? And then they hung up immediately?
Huo Tingxiao's brows instantly locked! His heart felt like it was being yanked by something!
wrong!
Given her current indifference and resistance towards him, she would never have taken the initiative to call him if it wasn't an extremely urgent matter! And she hung up after only one ring... This was too abnormal!
An extremely ominous premonition struck him like an icicle! He stood up abruptly, not caring about the ongoing meeting or his stunned subordinates, and immediately called back!
"Sorry, the user you dialed has turned off the phone..."
A cold, mechanical female voice came from the receiver, like a death knell, striking Huo Tingxiao's heart hard!
The power is off?!
How is that possible?! She almost never turns off her phone!
A huge fear instantly gripped him! Cold sweat instantly soaked his back!
He immediately called his home phone again, but no one answered!
I called Assistant Chen again, his voice almost distorted with urgency: "Check the last location of my wife's phone immediately! Right now! Quick!"
Every second waiting for a reply felt like torture in hell! Huo Tingxiao's face was ashen, his fists clenched tightly, and a terrifying aura of hostility emanated from him, silencing everyone in the conference room!
A few minutes later, Assistant Chen called back, his voice carrying an unprecedented solemnity and tension: "Chief! The wife's cell phone signal finally disappeared near the compound service center! Our people rushed over and only found this..." Assistant Chen sent a photo of the shopping bags scattered on the ground and the cell phone with a broken screen!
boom--!
Huo Tingxiao's brain seemed to have exploded! His vision instantly went dark, and he could barely stand!
She was kidnapped!
Right under his nose! While he was still struggling with those ridiculous cold wars and his pride! Something happened to her!
Endless panic and raging rage instantly consumed him! He felt more terrified and furious than any crisis on the battlefield!
Who is it?! Who dares to touch him?!
Lin Weiwei?! Or... revenge from the remaining members of the mission?!
No matter who they are, he will make them pay a heavy price!
"Immediately initiate a level one emergency response! Block all exits! Retrieve all surrounding surveillance footage! Mobilize all your resources! Find her for me! Even if you have to turn the entire capital upside down, you must find her!" Huo Tingxiao screamed into the phone, his voice trembling violently with extreme fear and anger, his eyes bloodshot!
He slammed the phone down and rushed out of the command center like a completely enraged lion!
What cold war! What estrangement! What self-esteem! Faced with the overwhelming fear of losing her, all of it became insignificant!
He had only one thought—
Find her!
Save her!
At all costs!
The crisis came and she was in danger.
And this time, the cold God of War was finally completely ignited, and was about to set off a devastating storm for her.
