Chapter 54: The First Hexagram

Among the crowd, an old lady came forward with difficulty and staggering steps.

The frost and snow of the years have long since turned her hair white, and her once straight back is now hunched. She is the old lady of the Li family.

The sorrow of the past was always with her, but there was still a faint glimmer of hope in her eyes, like a candle that was about to go out.

"Little girl, my grandson was lost when he was young. Can you help me calculate it?" Her voice was like a dead leaf shivering in the autumn wind, and every word seemed to carry the long years soaked in tears.

Jiang Suisui met the old woman's sorrowful gaze, nodded solemnly and firmly, and said softly, "Grandma, of course you can. Do you have your grandson's birth date and horoscope?"

Old Mrs. Li took the paper and pen from Jiang Suisui with trembling hands and wrote down a string of birthday numbers on the paper.

Jiang Suisui took the paper and fixed her eyes on it. Her expression was focused and pious. Her fingers were like nimble butterflies, tapping lightly on the table, as if she was quietly having a conversation with the mysterious power hidden in the long river of time.

At that moment, the world seemed to have been muted by an invisible hand, with only the slight knocking sound, like an ancient pendulum, knocking on the door to an unknown destiny.

After a while, Jiang Suisui slowly closed her eyes, opened her red lips, and muttered something.

The incantation-like murmur lingered in the air, and the atmosphere around them became increasingly solemn. Everyone held their breath unconsciously, as if any slightest sound would disturb this mysterious calculation ritual.

After a moment, Jiang Suisui opened her eyes, and a trace of imperceptible sadness flashed across her clear eyes like a shooting star.

"Grandma, according to his birth date and the hexagram I saw, your grandson was lost when he was 3 years old?" Jiang Suisui's voice was soft but clear.

The old lady nodded eagerly, like a drowning person grasping at a lifeline. However, a few discordant voices rose from the crowd: "Little girl, who in this neighborhood doesn't know that the Li family's child was lost at the age of three? Is this even worth counting?"

Jiang Suisui acted as if she hadn't heard the harsh voice. Her gaze remained gentle on Old Lady Li, and she continued in a low voice, "Grandma, I can still see where your grandson is now. To the west, there should be a large old tree nearby."

Tears glistened in Mrs. Li's eyes, and her voice choked with sobs: "Little girl, for so many years, our family has searched everywhere for this place but to no avail. I don't even know if there really is such a place."

The years have carved deep wrinkles on her face, and every wrinkle hides her longing for her grandson. Her cloudy eyes are now full of confusion and helplessness, like a lonely boat wandering in the darkness for a long time, longing for a ray of light, but not daring to believe that hope will really come.

At this time, an old man who had been observing silently spoke slowly: "Sister Li, doesn't your cousin's family have a big locust tree, also on the west side?"

His voice was low and hoarse, as if coming from the depths of time, breaking the slightly oppressive silence around him. Everyone's eyes were suddenly focused on him, with surprise and curiosity in their eyes.

A flash of surprise flashed across Mrs. Li's eyes. That flash of surprise was like a meteor that suddenly appeared in the night sky, short and bright, but it was replaced by doubt in the next moment: "My nephew's house does have a big locust tree, but what does it have to do with this? Besides, if the child had been at my nephew's house for so many years, how could I have known nothing about it?"

She frowned slightly, her eyes full of confusion, and her dry hands unconsciously clenched the corners of her clothes, as if she could grasp a vague clue in this way, or as if she was resisting the uneasiness that kept surging from deep in her heart.

Old Mrs. Li looked at Jiang Suisui and forced a smile, but that smile was filled with bitterness: "Little girl, it's okay, I just want to have some hope."

There was deep helplessness in her eyes, as if she was already accustomed to the blow of disappointment. However, in this abyss of despair, there was still a trace of attachment to family affection, which made her unwilling to miss any possibility.

Jiang Suisui leaned over and whispered a few words to Old Master Jiang, who quickly sent a message to Jiang Qi. Then, Jiang Suisui turned to Old Madam Li and asked softly, "Grandma, could you please ask your son or daughter-in-law to come over?"

Although Mrs. Li was full of doubts, she nodded in agreement when she saw Jiang Suisui, who was as cute and well-behaved as a lucky doll, and then called her daughter-in-law.

Jiang Suisui sighed inwardly, she figured out that the child had passed away.

The old man's words just now made her intuitively feel that it was the so-called cousin's house, but she needed to see the person in person to understand the specific situation.

The elderly people in the park all live nearby, and the news seemed to have spread like wildfire.

Soon, Mrs. Li's daughter-in-law hurried over. At the same time, Jiang Qi appeared with the police.

Everyone looked surprised and didn't understand what was going on.

Jiang Suisui took a deep breath, her face tense and full of confusion. She looked at Old Lady Li and said softly, "Grandma, let's go take a look."

Jiang Qi had communicated with the police in advance. After the police approached and politely asked Jiang Suisui, they walked towards the house of Mrs. Li's cousin together with Mrs. Li and Li's daughter-in-law.

The neighbors around were curious and followed behind, wanting to find out what was going on.
