Chapter 98 Song Xu's Thoughts

After Song Xu was born, the family atmosphere was not as warm and harmonious as Li Yin expected.

Song Qian gave all the family living expenses to his mother, as if it was a natural responsibility.

This put Li Yin in an extremely embarrassing situation when buying daily necessities for herself or her children - even if she just wanted to buy a small piece of clothing or an enlightenment book for Song Xu, she had to ask her mother-in-law for money first. Every request was like a difficult negotiation, full of helplessness and bitterness.

Li Yin really couldn't stand this kind of restricted life, and didn't want to make her parents worry, so she resolutely chose to re-enter the workplace and find the independence and dignity that originally belonged to her.

Even though Song Qian objected to this, Li Yin remained unmoved.

Deep in her heart, there was still a faint glimmer of hope. She felt that her son was her mother-in-law's grandson after all, and blood was thicker than water. Her mother-in-law would definitely do her best to take care of him, right?

As time slowly passed, Li Yin's work gradually got on track. She worked hard in the workplace, put in countless efforts and hard work, and also reaped corresponding results and rewards.

However, Song Xu became more and more taciturn, and his once lively eyes often stared into the void, as if immersed in a world that no one could reach.

Later on, Song Xu even stopped speaking. He just held a Rubik's Cube tightly all day long and turned it mechanically. The Rubik's Cube kept turning in his hands, as if it had become his only way of communicating with the world.

As soon as Li Yin communicated with Song Qian, he got angry: "It's because you insisted on going out to work and had no time to take care of the child that your son became like this."

Until Song Xu was six years old, Li Yin's career was booming, and her busy work was like a surging tide, filling her life.

In order to provide her son with better educational resources, she sent Song Xu to the prestigious Shenghua School.

But frequent business trips have ruthlessly compressed the time she spends with her son, and every short reunion seems precious and hurried.

That day, Li Yin happily rushed home with the gift she had carefully selected for her son.

The setting sun gently shines on the way home, stretching Li Yin's figure out long.

The corners of Li Yin's mouth rose unconsciously, her heart full of longing for tomorrow.

"The sunset on the road is so beautiful," Li Yin thought to herself, "Tomorrow will definitely be a beautiful day with a clear blue sky. Then I can take Xiao Xu to the amusement park. He will definitely be happy."

With such expectation, Li Yin gently pushed open the door of her home.

The room was dim and eerily quiet, with no familiar lights to greet her.

"Maybe Xiaoxu and her mother-in-law went out to play and haven't come back yet." Li Yin thought so, and prepared to take out her cell phone to call her mother-in-law to ask where they had gone.

At this moment, the door was opened again and a beam of light came in.

Li Yin's heart skipped a beat, thinking that her son had returned. A bright smile instantly spread across her face, and she turned around to look at him with joy.

However, only her mother-in-law appeared at the door, and Li Yin's smile froze on her face.

"Mom, why are you the only one here? Where's Xuxu?" There was a hint of confusion and uneasiness in Li Yin's voice.

Old Mrs. Song's eyes dodged for a moment, and a barely perceptible nervousness appeared on her face. She paused slightly and said, "My neighbor Aunt He and I went out for a walk and forgot the time. We just got back. Xiaoxu should be at home."

Li Yin stared at her mother-in-law closely, and an ominous premonition came to her heart, "Xiao Xu is not at home. I checked when I came back, and there was no one in the room." Her voice unconsciously rose a few degrees.

The mother-in-law seemed a little flustered. She hurried into the room while putting on her shoes, muttering, "Oh, look at my memory. I called him to eat at noon, but he didn't say a word. I was so angry that I locked him in the cabinet in my room."

Li Yin's eyes widened, her face full of disbelief. Her body trembled slightly, and she staggered as she followed quickly.

When Old Lady Song opened the small cabinet in the room that she treasured so much, Li Yin felt a darkness before her eyes.

She saw her son lying lifeless in the closet, his face as pale as paper, his small body curled up in a ball.

"No...impossible..." Li Yin's lips trembled, and her voice was broken and desperate.

She stretched out her hand tremblingly and carefully felt her son's breath, as if she could grasp that faint glimmer of hope.

However, all that came from his fingertips was despairing coldness and silence.

Old Madam Song collapsed to the ground in fear. She stammered, "Is he dead? No, that's impossible... I... I used to... lock him up all the time and it was fine!"

At that moment, Li Yin's world completely collapsed.

With trembling hands, Li Yin carried her son out of the small, dark cabinet and began to perform artificial respiration desperately.

She let out a heart-wrenching cry and frantically took out her cell phone to call the hospital.

As soon as the call was connected, Li Yin trembled and said, "This is..."

Li Yin's tears burst out uncontrollably and dripped onto her son's cold face.

Once, twice... Li Yin's breathing was rapid and heavy, her eyes were full of despair and pleading, hoping that a miracle would happen.

However, Song Xu never responded. He just lay quietly in Li Yin's arms, never to wake up again.

Li Yin's cries echoed in the empty room, the wail of a mother's broken heart, lingering for a long time...
