Chapter 213 Mid-Autumn Festival Arrives, Worlds Apart

As night falls and the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the moon in the sky is round and bright.

A night filled with stars and the moon should be beautiful and peaceful.

In the small house diagonally opposite the Qin residence, a chilling atmosphere seeped into the walls and spread throughout the house.

The nights in mid-autumn felt as cold as winter.

Yue Mingliang and his wife Wang Chunlan laid out two thick mattresses and added three more quilts, but even so, they still felt cold. They had no idea where the wind came from, as it seeped into their bed through various gaps.

A chill seeped into the skin from the shoulders and back, making one shiver involuntarily.

They started feeling very cold the day before yesterday. They were already wearing warm clothes when it was time to wear only a single layer of clothing. And they didn't know if it was because it was too cold, but they always felt a chill on their backs and often felt something behind them, but there was nothing there.

After selling the Qin family's old house, they originally planned to sell their own house as well and then leave and never come back. However, they heard from the old village chief that Qin Nan was coming back, so in order to avoid being caught by Qin Nan, they ran away before they could sell their houses.

Everything was going well until one day, bad luck struck the family. Their business failed, their investments plummeted, they lost the money they had to pay for the goods, and the goods even had problems, resulting in huge losses.

As the family members suffered misfortune and lost a lot of money, they started arguing. But even arguing was of no use. It was as if the family members were possessed by a plague god, with all kinds of bad luck, and their family situation became more and more difficult.

Yue Mingliang originally had a son and a daughter. His daughter was not valued or treated well from a young age, and the conflicts grew as she grew older. After she got married, she rarely contacted her family and almost cut off all contact with them.

His son was spoiled since childhood, lazy and ignorant of farming. When he married a daughter-in-law, she was only after his family had an old house and some wealth.

The daughter-in-law gave birth to two grandsons in five years after entering the family and was quite arrogant at home, but Wang Chunlan had no complaints and thought she was amazing for having children and continuing the family line.

Yue Dong is three years older than Qin Nan. Compared to Qin Nan's bumpy life, his life has been smooth. He got married right after graduating from university because his current wife was pregnant.

Qin Nan's family suffered a series of misfortunes and was criticized by others who said they were being punished for doing bad things.

The Yue family knew a lot about life, old age, sickness and death, and nothing about misfortune or bad luck, so when Qin Nan came to them to ask for help in renting a house, they readily agreed.

For the first three years, I didn't think much of it and just helped them rent apartments and look after houses.

But during these three years, looking at the rent and the income, he also had some indescribable feelings. He had put in a lot of effort and done a lot of work, but apart from a light thank you, he hadn't given any real thanks.

Especially since his son was useless and always lived off his savings, his daughter-in-law was lazy at home, and he had to support his grandson, he had some thoughts about it. However, he still had concerns at the time, and with tenants and regular payments, any sudden changes would inevitably be discovered.

Having an idea is one thing, but it's the first time, so it's inevitable to feel nervous and flustered when actually doing it.

Until the police came knocking, saying someone was missing and there was a murder, this was a good opportunity.

Although Qin Nan had a temporary reason, the house actually couldn't be sold. Not to mention selling, it couldn't even be rented out, since it was a murder case and the body hadn't been found yet.

After two years, Yue Mingliang was almost ready to give up when someone suddenly came to his door. It was a young man dressed in rich clothes with an otherworldly air, clearly a wealthy person.

Although Yue Mingliang didn't know why he didn't care about the incomplete paperwork of the house, as long as he bought the property certificate, he didn't hesitate since he could finally make money. He had made preparations for this day.

They took the cash and gave them the property certificate, leaving no evidence whatsoever. Even if they were accused later, there would be no proof.

Therefore, after they were destitute and had nowhere to turn, and after their daughter-in-law and son had a divorce, they returned here again, not only because they heard that Qin Nan had become a vegetable, but also because they had no evidence and their words were unreliable.

After enduring five difficult years, and with Qin Nan remaining silent, they gradually felt relieved. Although they were still experiencing some bad luck, it hadn't gotten any worse.

Now that good-for-nothing son has been forced to work in the city, while Yue Mingliang and Wang Chunlan are taking care of their grandson at home.

Just a few days ago, they heard that Qin Nan had woken up. They were initially a little panicked, but then they thought that even if Qin Nan was with the person who bought the house back then and they jointly testified about what happened back then, they had no proof. Without evidence, it would be a frame-up.

Even though they felt guilty, they persevered, because they were really poor and could barely make ends meet. Their children had never attended kindergarten and could only attend school during the compulsory education period by saving money.

But when they discovered that Qin Nan and his group hadn't come to their door at all, they breathed a sigh of relief, assuming that Qin Nan had no way to prove it because they lacked evidence.

So, aside from avoiding running into Qin Nan directly, they continued their lives with equanimity.

For some reason, the house suddenly felt very cold, and the two children often cried for no apparent reason.

However, they didn't mind; they just added extra blankets at night and lit the stove, since the heating hadn't been turned on yet.

Two days later, his son Yue Dong suddenly called and asked them to borrow money, saying that he had an accident at work and was injured, and that he needed to pay the medical expenses first and then get reimbursed later.

They believed him and quickly transferred the money, but after only two days, he said the money wasn't enough and he needed a minor surgery, which would require several thousand more dollars.

There was nothing they could do; they only had one son, so they kept sending money, totaling nearly ten thousand yuan, which was their meager savings.

After they said they really didn't have any money and asked Yue Dong to borrow it himself, they suddenly lost contact with him.

Yue Mingliang tried calling his son but couldn't get through. After several attempts, he finally got through to Yue Dong's workplace, only to find out from his colleague that Yue Dong had resigned recently and hadn't had any accidents.

The elderly couple got anxious and took a bus to the city to find Yue Dong's place, but they couldn't find him, and the house was occupied by new tenants.

According to the landlord, Yue Dong seems to have left with a friend who said he had introduced him to a good job, so he switched jobs and left.

They couldn't find the friend the landlord mentioned, nor could they contact Yue Dong, so they reported it to the police. The results showed that Yue Dong had most likely been scammed.

But we still need to investigate where they were tricked into going and what happened.

They could only wait at home, but things weren't peaceful there either. At night, the house was cold, and they kept hearing dripping water and the sound of things rubbing together.

The two children don't sleep well at night and often wake up from nightmares.

From mid-to-late September to the end of the month, with the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, the outside world was brightly lit and fireworks were in full bloom, but the Yue family mansion was eerily quiet and deserted.

On Mid-Autumn Festival night, the moon was full and bright. Qin Nan and Shen Yan made mooncakes of various flavors. The whole family sat in the courtyard to enjoy the moon and watch the fireworks.

Qin Nan also bought some handheld fireworks for the kids to play with in the yard.

Tengxue held her phone, taking photos to record the beautiful night of reunion.
