Qin Nan got up very early. Bai Hao didn't set a specific work time, but Qin Nan was used to getting up early and wanted to make breakfast for her grandfather every day. After making the bed, Qin Nan looked at her grandfather's portrait on the table, said good morning, closed the door, and went downstairs to make breakfast.
Yesterday I bought some milk, bread and smoked sausages from the supermarket. Since I didn't know Bai Hao's schedule, I prepared a quick breakfast for the first two days.
Qin Nan had just finished slicing the smoked meat and was frying eggs when Bai Hao, smelling the aroma, strolled into the kitchen wearing his only dark blue bathrobe. Although he wasn't very satisfied with the lettuce, his mood improved when he saw the meat slices and fried eggs.
Qin Nan looked at Bai Hao, who was leaning against the kitchen door staring at her frying eggs, with some surprise: "Boss, are you up this early?"
Bai Hao: "Before, no one made breakfast, so I didn't need to get up early. Now that you make breakfast, I can get up anytime."
Qin Nan: "Hmm... then I'll do it later?"
Bai Hao: "It doesn't matter. Besides, we need to do renovations before opening, so I won't be able to sleep very late."
Qin Nan scooped out the fried eggs and nodded, "That's true, it can't be quiet."
Qin Nan took the freshly baked bread off the bread machine, spread butter on it, added a fried egg, slices of smoked meat, lettuce, and another slice of bread. Then she cut the bread diagonally into triangles and arranged them on a plate.
Bai Hao reached out and brought the breakfast to the table. Qin Nan poured the warmed milk into a glass and took it out to eat.
The chinchilla tried a little bit of the meat slices but didn't like them. So it sat obediently on the table and ate the mouse food that Qin Nan had prepared for it. This was truly a delicacy! The chinchilla felt like it was ascending to heaven as it ate the mouse food, its little tail wagging incessantly.
After having breakfast, Qin Nan tidied up briefly and then received a call from Li Cheng. They had arrived, and Qin Nan went out the front door to meet them. Bai Hao changed his clothes and came downstairs.
Qin Nan: "Boss, are there any requirements for the renovation?"
Bai Hao: "Whatever you say. Can I stay in the attic of your warehouse?"
Qin Nan was taken aback upon hearing this, and nodded. In fact, Bai Hao was now the owner of the house, but he still respected Qin Nan, which surprised Qin Nan, because someone like Bai Hao didn't need to do that.
Qin Nan smiled and said, "The key is in the small pocket on the front of my backpack. It's probably quite dusty inside. Go find a place to clean it and sit down. I'll go over and clean it later."
Bai Hao: "Okay."
Qin Nan watched Bai Hao sway upstairs carrying the Totoro cat and felt that although Bai Hao was older than her, he seemed to be a little immature. Qin Nan shook her head and went out to pick up Li Cheng.
Fortunately, Bai Hao was unaware of Qin Nan's thoughts, otherwise he would probably be so angry that he would vomit blood. He had lived for tens of thousands of years, yet he was called childish by a human child who was not even thirty years old!
If it weren't for his easygoing and carefree nature, he would have tied Qin Nan up and thrown her to the old folks in the clan for research and experimentation long ago.
Qin Nan jogged to open the door, and Li Cheng led a large group of people carrying tools. Qin Nan was startled when the door opened.
Qin Nan: "Uncle Li, this is..."
Li Cheng stepped forward and pulled Qin Nan aside, then began directing the workers to get to work. "Start with the front yard. Inspect the house and clean up the mess. Finish what you can today. If there are any problems, get off work and go back for a meeting to discuss them. Let's get started!"
After Li Cheng finished speaking, a group of people, carrying their own tools, started working with clear division of labor, clearing weeds and houses, and inspecting the quality of the houses.
Qin Nan was pulled behind Li Cheng and couldn't get a word in edgewise. He hadn't expected Li Cheng to bring so many people and be responsible for every aspect of the situation. His previous idea of helping was completely unnecessary.
Looking at the stunned Qin Nan, Li Cheng laughed heartily, "Don't worry, my workmanship is impeccable. I'll fix everything for you. You don't need to lift a finger. I've had water prepared, and lunch boxes have been ordered. If you have any other requests, just let me know. If there are no special requests, I'll just leave it as it is and give it a fresh makeover!"
Qin Nan: "Thank you, Uncle Li, for your trouble."
Li Cheng waved his hand and said, "It's nothing. You can go and rest in the backyard. I'll personally supervise the work here, so don't worry!"
Unable to refuse such a kind offer, Qin Nan could only reply, "Okay, thank you!"
Qin Nan was driven to the backyard. Seeing the open warehouse, she thought she could clean it up. She went inside to get a broom and rag, but found they were gone. Qin Nan was stunned and wondered if Bai Hao had gone to clean it.
Qin Nan walked into the warehouse, opened the curtains, and opened the glass window of the security window, letting the draft blow away the musty smell in the warehouse.
The first-floor warehouse contained items that my parents and grandparents used to keep in their house. Some items were piled up, while others were on several shelves. The first floor was packed full, leaving only a path to the attic.
The wooden ladder to the attic was made by my father and grandfather by hand. It's made of solid wood, so it's very sturdy, and after being treated to prevent insect infestation, it's perfectly fine for long-term use.
Footprints were left on the dusty ground, leading all the way to the attic. The attic door was open, letting in sunlight. Qin Nan went up to the attic and saw Bai Hao sitting on the sofa by the transparent skylight, reading a book.
It really was just a matter of wiping down a spot and waiting for me to clean it myself. In the entire attic, only the white cover on the sofa was half-open, and the bookcase door was slightly wiped.
Speechless, Qin Nan picked up the Totoro from the dusty ground, shook it off, and then placed it next to Bai Hao. She knew she would have to wash it again that night.
Bai Hao was wearing a white shirt, black trousers, and incongruously barefoot in blue slippers today.
Qin Nan glanced at what Bai Hao was looking at and realized that he wasn't looking at a book, but his reading notes. These were notes he had written during junior and senior high school, and there were several of them. Qin Nan always made it a habit to write reading notes whenever he read a book he liked.
Qin Nan glanced at Bai Hao and then opened the skylight in the attic. A cool breeze blew in slowly, causing the curtains to flutter slightly. Then she began to clean the attic, dusting the bookshelves and cleaning the bottom.
