"Let me come to you? Is there something wrong?" The crooked words on the medical record made Scissors very uncomfortable. He stopped on the first floor of the hospital and stood in the middle of the corridor.
The half-open ward door creaked automatically without wind, dust kept falling from the dilapidated ceiling, and the sound of paper scraping against the ground could be heard from time to time.
Standing alone in a scene like this after midnight, it would be a lie to say I wasn't scared.
"Scissors" clenched the scissors in his hand, and he tried to act calm: "When was this piece of paper stuck behind me?"
Looking back, Scissors looked at the wards he had just passed by: "The guy who gave me the stickers should be in one of the rooms I just passed by."
He was very scared, but not to the point of losing his mind. He kept reminding himself that he was playing the role of a cold-blooded psychopathic murderer and he had to stay calm at all times.
"The weaker you are, the more likely the ghosts will bully you. You can't be afraid, or at least you can't show that you're afraid."
He folded the medical record and put it in his pocket, then carefully pushed open the half-open ward door next to him with the scissors.
The sheets were torn to shreds and the bed was overturned, as if some ferocious monster had once been fixed on it.
"Is this a hospital or the intensive care unit of a mental hospital?" Scissors did not venture into the ward, but just stood outside and watched.
The bed is not big, and there is only barely enough space under the bed and in the closet for a person to hide.
"The guy who played a trick on me is not here." He could see it under the bed. The closet door was also open. There was nothing inside. "He should be in another ward."
He was extremely panicked, but his expression did not change much. He swung his stiff legs and walked towards other wards.
"This one is empty, and this one is empty too..." The scissors moved faster and faster, and finally arrived at the ward near the hospital exit.
"After I entered the hospital, I went straight into the corridor and passed by these wards. The other wards were all empty, so it must be in this last room." Sweat broke out on the palm of his hand holding the scissors, and he slowly pushed open the door of this ward.
A pungent smell came from the house, a mixture of disinfectant and blood.
"Has anyone died in this house?"
The scene inside the ward was shocking. Red-stained sheets were stuffed randomly under the bed, torn hospital gowns were hung on the windows with anti-theft nets, and there was a long wig in the closet. The most terrifying thing was that there was a sentence written in blood on the snow-white wall: Guess where I'm hiding?
Comparing the handwriting, it was discovered that the bloody words on the wall and on the medical records were written by different people. This discovery made Scissors even more uneasy: "Is there more than one 'person' playing hide-and-seek in the hospital?"
He felt like giving up, so he ran out of the ward, preparing to leave the hospital temporarily: "The most dangerous place is the safest place. It's true in theory, but it's still a little difficult to put into practice."
When he returned to the hospital entrance, Scissors' expression changed completely. The hospital's big iron gate had been closed at some point.
"what to do?"
Scissors was somewhat helpless. He bit his lip. The wound on his face was pulled. The pain made him calm down: "Go and see if there is a window."
All the windows of the wards on the first floor were equipped with anti-theft nets, which he had just checked. Now he placed all his hopes on the second floor.
"I have been exercising for a long time for this day. I shouldn't get hurt if I jump from the second floor, but that may not be the case if I jump from the third floor." He ran to the second floor with the bag and scissors.
At this point he had completely given up on the game of hide-and-seek, and he had never thought about actually playing the game with the ghost.
He walked up the stairs, three steps at a time. When he reached the corner of the stairs, he caught a glimpse of a pair of gray feet out of the corner of his eye.
The feet were not far from his head. He looked up and saw a pair of gray calves. When he looked up again, the thing had disappeared.
"What the hell?"
Scissors was caught off guard and his calves went limp. He never expected that the thing was so close to him, just a few steps away.
"He's right next to me, maybe even watching me from somewhere!"
Stopping at the corner of the stairs, Scissors didn't know whether he should continue going up. He saw clearly just now that those things were upstairs.
"All the windows of the beds on the first floor are equipped with anti-theft nets, so you can't get out. If you want to escape from this damn place, you can only go through the windows on the second floor."
With no choice, Scissors went upstairs.
"Don't show up suddenly again." Muttering quietly, Scissors quickly ran to the first ward on the left on the second floor.
He excitedly opened the door of the ward and looked towards the window. Outside the glass window was a security net covered with pieces of clothing.
"Are the windows on the second floor also equipped with anti-theft nets?"
His lips were dry and Scissors felt a little desperate.
He walked to the window, reached out and grabbed the security net and shook it hard a few times.
My fingers were cut by the wire and the pain felt so real, but the city outside the window shrouded in blood mist seemed so unreal.
"I really hope this is a nightmare and I can wake up soon." The security net was very strong and could not be opened at all. Scissors let go of his hands and prepared to leave.
But just as he reached the door of the ward, he heard footsteps in the safety passage on the other side of the corridor on the second floor, as if something was running.
"It seems like they are coming towards me, and there are a lot of them!"
Scissors decisively locked the door of the ward from the inside. He stood sideways and observed the situation outside through the glass window on the door.
The footsteps were getting closer and closer, and several dark shadows could be seen moving quickly in the corridor. They seemed to be heading towards the scissors.
"We can't be discovered! We'll be dead if we're trapped in this room!"
The shadow was already very close, Scissors scanned the ward, and finally hid in the closet with the backpack.
This hospital is privately run, and the ward configuration is different from those of large hospitals. The wardrobes are separated by partitions in the middle, and after the partitions are pulled out, one person can barely fit in.
The footsteps came closer and closer, then disappeared outside the ward door.
"Stopped at the door? Did it notice me?" Scissors didn't dare to go out. He was worried that he would be caught by those things as soon as he showed his head. So he just stayed in the closet honestly: "Hide and seek, hide and seek, I haven't found it yet, why is it its turn to find me? Is it because it noticed that I was going to escape?"
Controlling the breathing rate, the scissors changed to a comfortable position, and seemed to touch something when the shoes moved.
Cold sweat broke out instantly. Scissors forced himself to stay calm and took out his cell phone from his pocket.
Sliding the screen, the desktop wallpaper is a photo of two young men in front of the orphanage. One of the young men has a beard, is tall and strong, and the other one looks like Scissors. He seemed a little autistic at the time and wanted to cover his face when taking the photo.
"You've always taken care of me, and now it's my turn to take care of you." Scissors sighed, turned up the screen brightness, and then shone it at the ground below.
What his shoe had just touched was a hospital gown, and underneath that gown was a diary.
It was because he had read his brother's diary that Jiandao took the No. 104 hearse to Liwan Town. Now that another diary appeared, he bent down without much hesitation, picked it up, and began to read it.
"Liu Feiming? Is this the name of the diary's owner?"
I flipped through the diary and found a medical record inside. The patient's name was Liu Feiming, and the diagnosis was that he fell from a height, resulting in broken legs.
"Why does he look so similar to me? If you want to escape from this damn place, you can only jump out from the third floor."
With a hint of uneasiness, Scissors began to read the contents of the diary.
"June 1st: When I get out of the hospital, I will definitely settle accounts with that cripple! He has a lame leg and a wicked heart. After all, I have worked under him in the engineering team for so many years. This time I fell from the third floor and was seriously injured and unconscious. In the end, he threw a few hundred dollars at me and ignored me? This matter is not over yet!"
"June 2: It takes a hundred days to heal a broken bone. I really don't know when I can get out. It's so boring staying in this hospital. I don't know how my family is doing. Did my fellow villager Brother Li tell them about my injury? Don't let them know."
"June 3: Why do I feel like the nurses don't like me? They run away every time after changing the medicine, as if they were avoiding the plague. Do they look down on the poor? I'll talk to them when I become rich."
"June 4: It's so boring. There's no one to talk to. Why don't the doctors or nurses come over? Didn't they say beds are in short supply? There's an empty bed in my room. Why would they rather put him in the hallway than share a room with me? Are they discriminating against me? What a bunch of snobs."
"June 6: What are they doing in the ward next door? They're always making a fuss at night. Can't they let us sleep? The service attitude of this lousy hospital is really bad. I really want to write an anonymous letter to complain about them."
"June 7: At about 2 a.m. tonight, the neighbors started making noises again. Is there a psychopath living here? Why is there a banging sound against the wall?"
"June 8: I couldn't stand it anymore, so I had a big fight with the neighbors at night. I thought they were so powerful, but they were just a bunch of cowards who didn't even dare to talk back. I've been so frustrated these past few days, so it feels good to have a fight with them."
"June 9: When I woke up in the morning, there was a child lying next to my bed. I got scared. After asking, I found out that it was the child of a neighboring patient. His parents were really careless. They dared to let such a young child run around. But having said that, this child is very cute and not shy. I have lived here for so long, but this is the first time someone has taken the initiative to talk to me."
"June 10: I became friends with the child. This little guy is very clever. He is afraid of being discovered by the nurses, so he hides every time someone comes in. He has never been discovered."
"June 13: I have become very close to the child these past few days. He likes to play hide-and-seek and sometimes comes to me late at night. I never thought I was so popular with children. I promised him that I would play hide-and-seek with him in the hospital when I can get out of bed. I would also like to say that the child's parents are not bad people. At least they are not as snobbish as the nurses and doctors. I don't know what disease they have. They are still in the hospital after so many days."
"June 14: Tonight, a cancer patient in room 305 died. Many doctors and nurses came. But I am confused. After such a big incident, why did they have to go around my ward door when going downstairs? They would rather walk so far than pass by my ward door. Am I on the blacklist?"
"June 15th: The plaster cast was finally removed. I thought the doctor had forgotten about me. It's windy today, so I won't go out for a walk."
"On the night of June 15th: Something is not right. Why do I hear a familiar voice in the next ward? This voice is a bit like the old man who died yesterday? I asked the child, but he refused to tell me. He insisted that I play hide-and-seek with him late at night. If I can find him, he will tell me the answer. My leg is not fully healed yet. I don't want to run out late at night to scare the nurses on duty."
"June 16: Oh my god! What on earth is going on? I got up very early today and walked out with a cane. I wanted to check on the patients in the next ward, but I found out that I live in the first room on the left in the corridor! To the left is the utility room, there is no ward there at all! I can hear their conversations every night, and that kid too! Damn it! I finally understand why the nurses and doctors don't come here."
"Night of June 16: The doctor doesn't agree to let me leave the hospital. I still owe a large portion of the medical bills. None of those friends are reliable! I will leave this damn place tomorrow no matter what, but the key is how to get through tonight. Will that kid show up again?"
"June 17: I have to leave. The kid came in again last night and asked me to play hide-and-seek with him! He has been running around in my ward. Am I crazy? Why did I agree to play with him before? I can't stay here anymore. The hospital won't let me leave, so I have to leave too. If I stay here, I will be killed sooner or later."
"On the night of June 17: What should I do? What should I do? I was really going crazy! When I was going downstairs in the afternoon and wanted to leave, I was standing on the stairs and suddenly I felt someone behind me. I turned around and saw that the child was behind me. He asked me where I was going and why I didn't play hide-and-seek with him!"
"June 18: I couldn't get through to my coworkers on the phone, the contractor ran away with a cripple, the hospital wouldn't let me leave, and I still owe a large sum of medical bills. This is driving me crazy! Forget it, never mind, I'll just run away first."
"On the night of June 18th: It's over. When I was going downstairs, someone pushed me and injured my leg again. The doctor looked at the surveillance video and said that I fell from the building by myself, but I clearly saw that it was that kid who pushed me! He didn't want me to leave. I told the truth. Why doesn't anyone believe me?"
…
"July 1: This should be my last diary. My legs are broken, my eyes are blinded, my throat is mute, and my finger bones are broken. I can't escape anymore. I know that the child should be next to me now. There is no ward next to me. In fact, they are all in my room. I found them, but I can't escape anymore."
After reading the last page of the diary, Scissors' heart sank: "There are no wards next door? Are they all in this room?"
His body was trembling, and the scissors dared not stay in this ward anymore, so he pushed open the cabinet door.
After rushing out of the cabinet, Scissors looked at the door of the ward next to him, and his mind went blank in an instant.
On the glass window of the door, there were many pale faces.
"I found you."
