Prefect of Cicheng...
For no apparent reason, Cai Yueshi's heart started racing. Seeing that Li'er was about to argue, she quickly pulled her back and said to the soldiers, "Please lead the way."
We followed them and indeed arrived at the prefect's residence.
The Prefect of Cicheng had already arranged rooms for them. Cai Yueshi smiled and thanked the maid who came to serve tea, then watched her leave.
She had ordered Li'er and the coachman to rest, and before she knew it, she was alone in the room. Cai Yueshi wasn't afraid, but her thoughts were a little chaotic.
Just as I was about to have a cup of tea to clear my head, I was startled and choked by the sound coming from behind me.
“Qinling”.
Cai Yueshi opened her eyes wide and saw a person walk out from behind the screen, who had obviously been standing there the whole time.
Cai Yueshi was, after all, a woman; when had she ever witnessed such a scene? She took a few steps back in fear, "You...who are you?"
Qin Huaiyan paused, "Qinling, don't you remember me?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Cai Yueshi dared to look up, and just one glance stunned her. She murmured, "Huaiyan...is it Huaiyan?"
"Qinling, it's me."
Cai Yueshi's eyes suddenly reddened, and she couldn't help but walk up to him and pat his shoulder, "Why are you scaring me?"
"Qinling, I didn't scare you." Qin Huaiyan grasped her wrist. "Listen to me."
Her eyes were bloodshot. "What did you say?"
"Listen." Qin Huaiyan pulled her into his arms. Cai Yueshi was stunned, and then she heard a "plop plop" sound.
—It was the sound of his heartbeat.
Cai Yueshi quickly pushed him away, looking to the side, "What...what are you doing?"
"Did you hear that?" Qin Huaiyan kept looking at her, his gaze both gentle and intense. "It's beating for you."
Cai Yueshi blushed and instinctively turned her back, saying, "I don't understand."
"This is what you left behind." He walked up to her, not letting her avoid his gaze. Cai Yueshi had no choice but to look, and when their eyes met, she felt a little hot.
—That was the sachet she left behind before she left.
She was actually reluctant to leave, but she had no choice. So she wrote a farewell poem for him in a sachet, hoping he would understand her reluctance to part.
I hope that he is the same.
"I didn't expect you to still have it," she said softly.
Qin Huaiyan nodded frankly, "Yes, I still keep it. Ever since my father passed away, whenever I feel like giving up, I take it out to look at it, as if you're keeping me company."
Hearing this, Cai Yueshi could no longer hold back and hugged him, burying her head in his chest. She only knew that his father had passed away and that he had become the prefect of Cicheng, but she had never imagined how many difficulties and obstacles lay ahead.
She even resented him for not coming to see her, which is why she disheartenedly obeyed her family's arrangement and married Shangguan Jingci. Fortunately, she pulled back from the brink, and fortunately, she came to Cicheng.
As he kissed her until she was weak and limp, Cai Yueshi suddenly remembered that he hadn't come to see her off back then, and asked, "Didn't you have anything you wanted to say to me back then?"
Qin Huaiyan kissed the corner of her eye. "Yes."
"What?"
"I recite your poem of parting from me, and gaze sadly at the misty waters."
