Lu Huai raised his head to face the sunlight, looked at Emperor Yuxian standing on the palace wall, and narrowed his eyes slightly.
Emperor Yuxian smiled and looked down at them, still the same domineering emperor who looked down upon the world. "Lu Huai, you've finally arrived."
Lu Huai frowned slightly. "Where is Qin Xi?"
"Qin Xi?" Emperor Yuxian seemed amused and burst into laughter. "You're still thinking about Qin Xi? I've already given her to the Imperial Guards to serve as a female soldier."
Lu Huai's face darkened.
"Tsk tsk tsk." Emperor Yuxian admired his expression, a smile playing on his lips, and shook his head regretfully. "You've come too late, Lu Huai. At first, Qin Xi resisted desperately, but after waiting for several days and you still hadn't come, she drank the abortion pill and settled down to serve my imperial guards."
"Sigh." He sighed helplessly, "What a pity for that unborn child. I heard that it was already fully formed when it was aborted."
Lu Huai's eyes were bloodshot, his jaw was clenched, and his hands were clenched into fists.
When he left, the child was already over eight months old, so he was naturally fully formed. If what Emperor Yuxian said is true, then…
Lu Huai dared not think any further.
Emperor Yuxian raised an eyebrow slightly. "It's only because you arrived too late. My Imperial Guards may not be many, but there are still at least several hundred men. So much time has passed, and you're only now coming to find Qin Xi. Isn't it a bit too late?"
He laughed, "I'm afraid she couldn't bear it any longer and passed away, her body dumped in the wilderness."
Unable to bear it any longer... he passed away... his body was dumped in the wilderness...
Lu Huai closed his eyes. He dared not use any of those words to describe Qin Xi. During his time away from the capital, he had imagined many possibilities for their reunion, but he still dared not imagine the worst-case scenario.
He repeatedly told himself that Emperor Yuxian and Qin Qi were childhood sweethearts, that he liked Qin Qi, and that he would never hurt her.
However, the current Emperor Yuxian is no longer the fourth prince of the past. The fourth prince was indecisive, while Emperor Yuxian is ruthless and cruel. No one can believe that they are the same person.
He can be so ruthless even to his own brother, so what about Qin Qi? What if he minds Qin Qi's past with him...?
Lu Huai dared not think any further. His eyes were bloodshot, and his eyelashes were slightly damp.
General Qin frowned as he listened to Emperor Yuxian's offensive words. He exchanged a glance with Lu Chuan, whose brow was furrowed as he looked at Lu Huai with concern.
Lu Huai was staring intently at Emperor Yuxian atop the palace wall, wishing he could tear him to pieces. Yet even so, it was difficult to quell the hatred in his heart.
Receiving Lu Huai's gaze, Emperor Yuxian smiled smugly, a secret sense of satisfaction rising within him. However, the next moment, a clear and melodious voice rang out from not far away, abruptly freezing his smile on his face.
Don't listen to him.
Lu Huai suddenly turned his gaze to the person who was speaking, and saw her looking at him with a smile.
It turns out to be Princess Zhaoyang.
She wore a long, golden dress adorned with sparkling gemstones. Her long, glossy black hair was styled in a youthful updo, and she wore delicate, light green jade earrings.
Princess Zhaoyang's eyes sparkled, as if they held countless stars. She smiled slightly at Lu Huai, "Brother Changjue, it's been a long time."
Lu Huai nodded, his tone somewhat anxious, "Does the princess know Qin Xi's whereabouts? Please tell me."
"Brother Changjue, please rest assured, Miss Qin is safe now. She and Princess Zhaoyue are waiting at the South Gate." Princess Zhaoyang smiled gently, no longer as flamboyant and dazzling as before, but with a touch of tenderness.
